I'm starting to become interested in the art form of music, specificly- electric guitars. I want to know a good-looking ,cheap ,quality electric guitar with an amp that I can learn on. tell me what you think.

My first guitar was an Ibanez RG4 for around 300$. I just got some bad amp at a pawn shop too, for 50$. An alternative to that is to get a Squier Strat pack. Which doesn't cost to much. Then when you get better/ are still interested, get a real strat, they have a great sound.

Do not get a first act guitar, those things are garbage.
The first guitar I've ever had was a first act, and it sucked but of course I didn't know that being a beginner guitarist. What you really should do is get a strat not with the package. Play around and see which one looks and sounds best and make sure you get that one. After go get yourself an amp, try to get a cheap one with as little feedback as possible. Don't forget the other necessities like

-cord
-strap
-picks
-tuner
-new strings
-string winder

Fender Strat Squire is a good starter. I HIGHLY reccomend going to a pawn shop or hitting up craigs list for someone getting out of the hobby. you will save a great deal and might get a decent quality rig at a decent price.
I'm not one to reccomend getting a "Begginner" gutair. If you know you're into it spend the cash to get something decent. On that note i would just get a regular stratocaster. Or a Strat special.

But more then anything else get one that feels good in your hands, one with nice action.

There isn't really isn't any such thing as a cheap, quality guitar. You either get quality or you get cheap. If I were going to buy a cheap guitar, I'd go with an Ibanez. I wouldn't get a Squire Strat or any first act guitar. They are top notch garbage. It would be easier to help you out if you give a price range. If you don't mind being patient, you can also look around for a used guitar. I got my RG560 for about a third of what it's worth. http://ibanez.com/eg...r.aspx?m=ART100 These guitars are fairly cheap, and they play pretty nice.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. If you don't know what you're looking for, you could get into a lot of trouble. My friend bought a new guitar that the neck is bent so badly that half of the frets are dead. If you have $300, I would try to find one used if you have someone to help you out in buying one. As for an amp, a small, 10 watt amp would be a great start. They are fairly cheap, and if you decide that you don't want to play guitar, you aren't out a ton of money. I would avoid any of the amps sold at wal mart, though.

This is mine. I got it about 3 years ago as a Christmas gift. It costs about 80 bucks not including taxes. I think its OK, but some may find it weird to hold. Its a Stratocaster knock off made by a company called Baja.

Stop right there...I just bought a Epiphone Les Paul Special II, all black. It's a beautiful guitar, cost me about $150. That gives you some extra for a cheap amp, cables, etc. This is my second guitar and it feels great, has great sounds, and is a good rock guitar, I play mostly classic rock on it. All of the Epiphones pass through the Gibson factory right here in the good old U.S.A for inspection and set up too, so they're pretty good quality for a "cheap guitar".

But I have the limited edition with gold hardware.

Either way, I HIGHLY recommend this guitar. It served me EXTREMELY well, plays great, has a great sound, good electronics, and a fairly decent fingerboard. I would recommend this guitar to anyone. Great LesPaul.

But if you are interested more in a single coil pickup, go for a Squire strat copy or other strat knock off.

Many of my friends have recommended the Les Paul special 2 in a pack, which comes with everything I need to play. I think I am settling on it...

Epiphones don't play too bad at all for the price. Some of them are good as Gibson's with a much more reasonable cost. Be sure to check for dead notes before you buy any guitar. Play every note on the neck, and if it just makes a low, buzzy sound, find a different guitar. Be sure that each note is clear or it will drive you nuts every time you play it.

No, B.C. Rich's are pretty bad. i use to own a Warlock and the only thing I liked was the neck. They have really fast necks and long necks, but the electronics are shit and the body is heavy and awkward. And the metal flare will lose its appeal FAST.

Thats for sure. I have a few on my 4 string bass and it does drive me nuts. I had to do alot of work to it to work the buzz's out.

I forgot that they had a beginner pack for the Special II, that would be a good choice. You got me thinking about guitars now though, I think I might get a Korina Flying V sometime soon even though I just got a new one.

No..... just no. Buying a really really nice guitar kinda implies that you can play it too. Kid at my school sucks at guitar, but thinks it gives him credit that he has a $3000 SG.

Buy a shit guitar, learn to play, really appreciate good guitars once you can understand what makes em good.

Again, get an Epiphone. Them be nice.

Or an Ibanez. They are modestly priced and play like they are worth alot more.
