What is the difference between brass and copper, which do you like better and why?

Brass fits better and is lighter.

here, i work with both:

Copper= heavy, bad seal with most FBR, much frictiono (meaning "much friction"), too wide to fit in PVC, relatively inexpensive, i belive standardaized OD, bad bonding.

Brass= WAY less friction, more expensive, nestable, fits well, standardized ID down to 36" differences i.e. incredible dart fit, light, looks ncredible ( glowing gold ), telescopable if that's a word)

Plus, using brass makes you more like cxwq for those who want to imitate him in every way. Also, copper just sucks. It never works right.

Copper may be heavy, but there is no "most" FBR. There is no sandard. Nearly all FBR is different. I dont nkow where you got the "much friction" thing from because its either the same, or barely different. Nothing is wrong with copper's surface. You can fit it into PVC as I have done on many occasions, it involves trying.

Like I said earlier, the friction level is nearly the same, and nothing to worry about. Copper is also nestable and fits well too. There is no incredible dart fit. All FBR is different. For instance, at Home Depot, I can get 1/2 inch FBR, but it is fairly small. I can also get a thicker puffier version of 1/2 inch FBR there too. Both fit fine in cpvc. At my local hardware store, they have a much thicker 1/2 inch FBR. Ive tried lots of sizes of brass, and Im not satisfyed, My darts either slide down the barre or dont fit. You cant blow the darts down the barrel, its more expensive, its much more unreliable to nest since were securing it with tape.

Now, for my suggestion

Go with whatever fits your darts, but dont make broad generalizations that arent the case such as the above posts. I use cpvc for everything. It fits the vinal tubing I buy for mods, it fits inside pvc, it bonds well, it has cheap elbows and T squares, It is a good and strong barrel material, it is light, and it fits small and thick darts, just ram'em down. Despite how everyone hates ramming darts down barrels, you have to face it, its reliable, doesnt take as long as people say, and gets the darts all the way down the barrel...without it getting stuck or falling out. Depending on the gun and its air release time, You dont even need to ram it down.

I think everyone has different FBR and barrel material. I guess I will just have to get some FBR, whatever size the local Ace hardware store has, and then test it's fit in copper, brass, pvc, cpvc to see what fits the best!

Okay, you could just bring a knife along, and after you buy the FBR, open it up, cut off a little piece, straighten it the best you can, (littler pieces are straigher) and then test it's fit on the readily available piping within the hardware store!

(bet you already knew that)

If you are cheap like me, get copper. It's easy to use and cut, and it is CHEAP. 5 bucks for 8 ft. at my hardware store. Sounds pretty good to me.

Its not a matter of cash, its the darts, if youve got really thin darts and copper, and then use copper, the darts wont stay in the barrel, and will go 5 feet. For me, cpvc works better and is only $1 for 10 feet.

Bingo.

The perfect barrel material is the one that fits YOUR darts the way you want it to.

Size, weight, cost, etc, are more or less useless considerations unless the darts fit.

Cxwq is totally right, but the chances are that brass will fit your darts better because you can get it in millions of sizes. PETG on the other hand, rules you all (except for people that have it).

I prefer brass, because it comes in small step sizes, and it can fit in 1/2 inch PVC for stability and getting ur barrel straight. Also it is easy to make a bolt action homemade with brass, because the brass telescopes but at the same time slides smoothly with one another.
