Yes, that was really cool. Why didn't you show us at any MN wars? ...that would have been awesome. Anyways, yes, more please.

I'm really happy with the way this thread turned out. Keep 'em coming guys, if you have em.

Here is my home made air conditioner. Each fan plugs into a usb port. The fans aren't sufficient enough for my taste so I am going to get a larger one some time.

I don't think it compares to chainmail, or double bikes but..

So for comic-con this year, I wanted to go as Cloud, or Zack, from Final Fantasy VII( I didn't plan it too well so I didn't go as him). Any way, I also discovered boffer swords a little while ago too. So I thought why not kill two birds with on e stone?I could make a boffer buster sword! It still needs a little more work and duct tape, and I realize there no materia slots, for anyone who played it. So yeah here it is.

A stereoscopic camera.

This thread is about projects, like stuff you made, not cries for a boyfriend in a personals ad.

For me, there is a lack of non nerf related projects. I am currently working on a Big Blast integrated into the shell of a longshot and its eating up my time fast. Seriously, yesterday I put 8 hours into it..... that, and Okami....

I have my fingers in many pies!

water rockets!

Posted Image

two liter water rockets, they go up 200+ feet, cheap fun! I've also made the rockets from the polycarbonate sleeves you put over flourescent lightbulbs. they fly higher but are boring to watch.

Posted Image

my RPG-7 water rocket launcher, the rocket is a 1 liter sprite bottle. the gun pumps up by sliding the front section in and out like a bike pump. there is a piston built inside.
the only problem is the water shoots out of the rocket and nails you right in the face!

I like to build replica blasters and custom guns too.

Posted Image
super light experiment, the gun is lightweight plastic and styrofoam. its hanging from thread on my pinky.

Posted Image
star wars blaster built on a cheap airsoft mauser, still works fine.

Posted Image

Posted Image
Posted Image
darter painted and the cocking handle modded to look like the ring on a real gun. still shoots!

a gun based on world of warcraft concept art

Posted Image

a pirate blaster, all metal and wood with LED in power cell.

Posted Image
Posted Image

I like to refinish guns and rehab stuff too, my cheapy chinese $20 air rifle. 690fps!

Those water rockets are amazing, but how are they triggered? I just fill mine with a schrader valve and triggger using the common cable ties trigger method. I tried to make an RPG-7 water rocket launcher and it failed in looks compered to yours.

well at first I used the cable tie method of releasing and it worked ok (google clark cable system for info)
but I switched to quick connect garden hose setups. you can buy a connector with a few nipples included for a couple of dollars at the big hardware stores.
get the female threaded garden hose nipples and you can screw them over male pipe thread PVC. its a different thread but it holds fine enough. the quick connect has regular pipe threads and you can cobble something together easily. I prefer a launch rod in the setup, it acts like a piston to give the rocket a good start and to keep it straight for a split second. the rod is hollow and I epoxied it into the connector so the air travels up it and into the bottle, keeps water from backflowing into the pump. you pump it up and simply pull down on that green ring and off it goes! if it acts up and sticks, a little vaseline on the O rings and the surrounding nipple usually keeps it working just fine.

I used CPVC pipe on the last batch of rockets since it slips right into the bottle opening no problem. I use PL premium adhesive to glue the pipe in the bottle. just glob it up inside the bottle and a film on the pipe then slide in the pipe. a coat hanger wirewith a bit of the tip bent over can be stuck up the pipe to move the excess glue around and make a good seal. i try to go into the bottle about an inch and a half with the pipe, so it holds good and doesnt leak. I make the pipes about 10 inches long and the fins about 3x4 inches in surface area. 4 fins work the best for me, i cut them from the four corners of bottles and zip tie them to the pipe. they sit offset like a swastika sorta. I do that on purpose, it makes the bottle spin and come down sideways for a soft landing, you can usually catch them, they fall so softly.

thats my older launcher, someone gave me a cheap plastic Xmas tree stand and it makes a perfect rocket stand now.
I also added a throttle cable from an old lawn mower to one launcher. the handle is strapped to the bike pump and the other end is hose clamped to the green ring and the pvc pipe fittings, pull the handle and it pulls the ring. that way you dont get COMPLETELY soaked.

yeah the RPG-7 is some of my best work to date, it's actually pretty complex. I tried to reshape the sprite bottles to make them look more realistic but with no luck. the inner pump works good but the trigger assembly is rather hard to pull. I have been toying with the idea of making it a nerf type weapon. I can make passable rockets from those foam pool noodles they sell or I can also make a mold and cast them from a expanding foam rubber. the cast stuff would be a good deal more heavy, could snap a persons neck in the size the rockets would need to be, to be scaled properly.

the other launchr I need to finish is an anti-aircraft stinger missile launcher. It has an electric 12v airpump built in and it will use long skinny rockets made from those flourescent light covers. those style rockets dont use nearly as much water as the 2 liter style, so I hopefully wont get so soaking wet!
they fly really fast and they tend to straighten themselves out as they fly. it's going to look frighteningly real when it fires. I think if I add a little flour to the water for color, the water trail will look like a bit of smoke.
I started building a really complex connector to launch it but I scrapped it for a hose quick connect instead.

I bet it could be reconfigured to fire a giant stefan made from a pool noodle, FTW!!! ;)

Huh. That's odd. 1/2 inch schedule 40 pvc is a perfect fit with my bottles. I just mark whare on the pipe the bottle slides to, then heat up that area and flare it. After this process the bottles will seal perfectly with the flare. For fins I generally just take another bottle of similar size, cut off the tob and bottom, use the top as a nose cone (weighted, of course!) and cut some rectangular holes in the middle portion and tape this to the main bottle. It usually looks sort of like a really long bottle with holes when complete.

Why not add a blast shield? I couldn't find any images with one attached, but here is one for an Israeli rocket launcher, so you can probably see what I mean:

With your obvious skills in replication, you could easily put something similar on your water rocket launcher that would look nice and protect your face from incoming forced hydration.

I had the same thought but found a better solution, a russian gas mask!

the launcher works good shooting vertically but its lousy shooting horizontally at something.
thats why I'm thinking of converting it to a nerf style setup.

the troubles with the RPG-7 were why I started on the stinger, it uses the skinny water rockets with much less water and it's supposed to be shot vertically
oh I meant PVC pipe , not CPVC. I had a bunch of CPVC and fittings and used them up on my earlier rockets, had to turn the pipe down to make them fit. the schedule 40 fits fine.
