Woohoo! I just finished (almost) my first homemade. Those tire valves aren't cheap, are they?
Anyway, the barell is 30" long. I don't think it's too long.
I haven't put in the valve, but my dad said he'd help me later. With using the drill.
If it don't work, just copy and paste.

Pfft. I hope your kidding, you said it isnt done, so youve never tested it right? I bet you that the dart will go 5 feet and flutter to the ground when you fire it. Try cutting your barrel down...Oh, say about 15-17 inches and youll be fine. Tire stem valves costed me $1 for 2, I dont know what your talking about...

Meh. You've had more experiance, so your probably right. I'll shorten it.
The jackass at the bike place probably gave us the most expensive valve, just to get more money. Oh well.

You went to a bike shop? Just go to a store like Canadian Tire. I honestly don't know if you guys have one out there, but they sell car tire valves in the auto section for $1.49 for 2 high quality valves. Bike valves stink in my opinion, tryed 'em once and I'll always use car valves.

Fuckin' god damn, the drill melted the bottom of the PVC endcap as I drilled it. Then I had to sand it down for about an hour. And then I found out the drill bit I used was too small. I'll have useful numbers tomorrow. Probably.

A lesson in homemades.

1) ALWAYS make a hole in some wood and see if the valve fits through first, so you know what bit to use.

2) ALWAYS go slow when drilling, PVC tends to melt, like all other plastic.

3) Try to use a spade bit when drilling the hole for your valve, easier, and makes a better hole in my opinion.

4) Why are you still reading this?

Good luck man. Yeah, cut down your barrel, wayyyyyy too long. Tell us your numbers soon.

I cut the barell down to fifteen inches, and it was my first homemade, as you know. Thanks for the help.

I've talked to a lot of people and most have said that barrel length doesn't matter. What's important is barrel width.

Just like in bed.

But in nerf, as long as your barrel isn't bending, its not a pain to load, and theres enough support, i figure it doesn't matter much.

And make sure it's not firing before you want it to. That's such a pain.

Is it Steve? I feel fortunate to have never experienced that problem. Hell, sometimes I gotta wait an hour before my gun will fire!
