Okay, so I was doing a little messing around with my LS and BBB (thinking of doing a spring transplant) and I got to thinking about my Firefly. That thing isn't terribly useful in the first place, why not take the spring from it and stick it in my LS instead of sacrificing my BBB?

Okay, so my question to you guys, is:

How useful is a Firefly and if it has ANY use at all, what is that use?

My Opinion:
The Firefly is largely useless, it's too underpowered even if you do an AR on it and do a bigger spring. It falls into that gray area between Sidearm and Primary, fitting in with both, but at the same time being neither. The LS out classes it in both range and firing rate (don't yell just yet.) And of course there's the mighty X-Bow, favorite of all modders on this site. Of all the Nerf Wars I've been in, my LS has served me MUCH better than my Firefly has. It was useful to have at the time, but now I feel that it was a waste $20 since I started modding my LS, NF, and other guns (although I feel kind of the same way about my MS, but that's because it keeps breaking.)

So what do you guys think?

Well, in my circle we use lightly modded guns (or even stock), which is where you would think a Firefly would thrive - but even there it wasn't much use. It's basically just an oversized Maverick with a few extra shots, some ammo holders, and a bright flash of light. (oooh...aaah....)

Then it broke, and I never could get the thing fixed to fire more than 5 feet or so - so I sold my turret to Splitlip and now I'm going to mess with singling the thing just to see what it can do.

Bottom line - it isn't much use, especially if you have better modded guns like the LS/BBB.

I think I'll buy the turret off of you for $3+shipping to 08016. Let me know. Money is ready and waiting in paypal. :)

Seriously though, the firefly isn't that great. I just like the drop turrets. It's pretty hard to make it powerful. I personally hate the idea of killing a BBB to make an LS stronger, so if there is an alternative, I'd take it. (My alternative was just buying a bbb spring from someone else though). Your opinion is pretty spot on to me. I like how it feels, and I'm adding a few integrations to make it semi-primary. It does have a crap load of dead space on the inside for that though.

You don't have to "kill" the bbb. You can take it to home depot/ ace/ lowes/ whatever other store sells springs and find one similar and do a spring replacement on the bbb, that way both guns become more powerful.

I know the firefly is a piece of crap. But I don't own one, and am unfamiliar with it, can you post a picture of the spring? Maybe compared to the BBB or NF spring? But yeah, Hasbro Effeminateally failed with the Firefly. It has a reverse plunger, (I'm pretty sure) a weak spring, and it is hard to cock. Pretty much a glorified mav, with an extra shit twist.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I'll have to pass on that, it's simply not cost-effective enough. I only ship via UPS and shipping the turret by itself would $3 + $9.47 shipping. If you're willing to pay that much for a turret, you may want to reconsider.

On another note, I think I'll scrap my Firefly, just from what you guys told me, I can clearly see that it's a piece of junk and I wasted my money on it (it was cool at the time i bought it though.) If anyone else has opinions, keep them coming, part of the reason I joined here was to learn more about Nerf.

*laughs* I've stripped the turret down some and I'm going to make a shottie mod for my Titan, I'm going to put the lame-ass spring in LS, and I'm probably going to sell the shell and the rest of the internals I'm not using in my sales thread.

If it counts for anything, I love my firefly. It's one of my best guns, but I still haven't modded my LS so that might change...But I really like the gun. It's comfortable and light, and has a decent ammo capacity. I think it would at the very least useful for Humans vs. Zombies, that way it wouldn't have to compete with other guns.

Why would you guess if you don't have one? It does not have a reverse plunger.

Ace Hardware Spring #49. I've got one in my LS and with just that and the ARs removed I'm getting between 75 and 100 feet per shot depending on the darts I'm using.

I have the plunger assembly for a Firefly in front me atm, and I don't understand what you mean by "reverse plunger."

I'm just using a BBB spring and the stock LS spring in my LS and it's working amazingly well.

Bullet, a reverse plunger is the same system used on a maverick and LSFG. The plunger head is facing you and the plunger tube moves forward. They are hated because of their(usually) small size, and great amount of dead space. The firefly does not have this.

Since we are talking about springs in longshots, I have a spring with a load of 26 pounds in mine.

Hey Bullet, remember when we were talking about putting one of those springs in a nf? It does fit if I cut off 2 coils! Combine that with a telescoping brass barrel and your silicone grease... =)

I'm pretty sure that the whole telescoping barrel thing was found to do nothing at all...

Ahahahahahahaha...
haha.

1) PETG a springer.
2) Put in a dart just smaller than the ID of the PETG.
3) Watch it go nowhere.
4) Add some telescoping brass at the back.
5) Try again with the same dart.

This happened to me last night, actually.

Back on topic.

I don't agree that the firefly is a useless gun. I don't quite know what you mean when you say you put in a stronger spring and removed the ARs and got nothing... I got at least 40 feet with my neighbor's (at least = didn't measure exactly... just went past a 40 foot mark).

While you're right, it isn't as good as the LS or Xbow, that doesn't make it useless. With a removable clip mod the reload rate goes up dramatically. Until then, it already has an extra three shots on the LS before reload.

No, I wouldn't use this gun. But there are a few who just wouldn't use it outdoors against an LS, and that's only because they'd be slightly out-ranged. Truth be told though, there's always someone who out-ranges you.
...indoors, I don't see a problem with it.

I was thinking that telescoping was actually like the thing done to the faux longshot front gun barrel. Sorry my mistake. Got confused.
