1. Newbie makes reasonable post.

2. Month-old member tells Newbie they're dumb and warns them that an onslaught of hate is headed their way from the vets.

3. Someone who's been here long enough to know better tells newbie off and suggests they go to NHQ.

4. Different month-old member cheers, tells Newbie to read the forums before posting.

You see where this is going, right? It's really fucking lame!

If I see another goddamned thread like that I will personally rip a new asshole for everyone involved.

The vast majority of people here are perfectly respectable members of our little society so lets drop the playground politics bullshit.

THANK YOU FOR PUTTING YOUR FOOT DOWN

I have tried to defend newbies on multiple occasions when some kid flames the newbie just cuz hes new. And each time it didn't really go anywhere. Your post really hit the nail on its head though, so thanks.

But since I have at least a month under my belt, I'll do just that and commend you for telling it like it is. You're a god. I hate newbs like me. jk lol omg jkjlkol brebrb!!!11

I've been a member of this site for quiet a while. I didn't post for a very long time because most of the time the quality of the conversation wasn't the best. I read almost everything relevant, but I saw no reason to post. I have been a very active member on NHQ for about six months because it didn't have the kind of things your talking about. I've recently seen a change here, and it seems to be for the better.

I think it's time everyone read this thread again. And the new users thread. And, while you're at it, this thread too.

I just sent Sharpshooter to NHQ for 50 days. If they don't want him then I guess he's out of luck.

Other people who need to read those links include but are not limited to, Element, Ironman, half 'n half, cheese.

im sorry if some of you have seen this, im sorry if some of you dont think its funny, but the following is a very true detailed response to a simple question...

How many group posters does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been
changed

14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the
light bulb could have been changed differently

7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs

27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light
bulbs

53 to flame the spell checkers

41 to correct spelling/grammar flames

6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...

another 6 to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive

2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is
"lamp"

15 know-it-alls who claim *they* were in the industry, and that "light
bulb" is perfectly correct

156 to email the participant's ISPs complaining that they are in
violation of their "acceptable use policy"

109 to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take
this discussion to a lightbulb group

203 to demand that cross posting to hardware forum, off-topic forum, and
lightbulb group about changing light bulbs be stopped

111 to defend the posting to this group saying that we all use light
bulbs and therefore the posts *are* relevant to this group

306 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to
buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this
technique and what brands are faulty

27 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs

14 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the
corrected URL's

3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to
this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group

33 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all
headers and signatures, and add "Me too"

12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they
cannot handle the light bulb controversy

19 to quote the "Me too's" to say "Me three"

4 to suggest that posters request the light bulb FAQ

44 to ask what is a "FAQ"

4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

143 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions
about light bulbs"

1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and
start it all over again....

It's getting all weird and messed up on the Nerf forums lately... I hardly see anyone back form the days of NO (Vacc, Spoon, Cxwq...) and there are newbies who pop in, post alot for the month, then dissapear alltogether. Plus the fact that the topics are just the same old things, "how do I fix my blastfire?", "is the sm4124325325 good?", "what do you use on your at43521?"

*Yawn*

Good night everyone.

all though some people might be a bit more broad minded thinking that we've created some good guns and mods, and i must of course pat 3DBBQ on the back, but that is mainly all where here for, n00bs and help on repairing guns left out in the sun/sat on...

I'm a fairly new nerfer here, and recently applied for the forums. I've already read all the recommended readings by CXWQ, and I apologize right now for anything stupid I may have done. However, now to my main point; taita, you and other vets may just feel like you're there to be used for help. However, think of it this way; by you being helpful to other new people who want to get into nerfing, you have a chance of creating a "new" dedicated nerfer, hence expanding the community of people who use nerf. Although you may feel like you're used, just remember that you're a part of helping the nerf community grow. After all, I think all of us would like to see more dedicated nerfers. Sure, there could be less of the same repetitive topics, but that's just the crap you have to put up with when you are dealing with a sometimes "younger and more obnoxious" audience. Lastly, I hope I can become a helpful member within this community- let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Now there is a great newbie! (Damnit, I screwed up the space key on my laptop)

I wish all newbies were like you; polite and understanding... But no! They aren't.

Oh well... Funny thing is, I hardly remember taita... He's a vet? Okay... I guess I'm not thinking hard enough... Oh well...

I agree with what Oompa said. I know, many newbies can be annoying, but they are vital to expanding the Nerf Community. In several cases, I have seen newbies annoying the crap out of the regulars and vets, but over time, they grow up and turn out okay. If we don't accept and be patient with newbies, Nerfing as we know it may weaken in interest and die off, which is one thing that I don't want to see happening.

i recently nominated somewhere for a "best newb award", and im afraid we have another contender, congrats on a well worded, ramble free first post...

to be quite honest, im not a vet, although being around a few months before the death of NO may prove otherwise, i have witnessed some classic flames, and in the gap after the death of NO, failed to join such forums as this one i am inclined to grace [or not] and the more n00b friendly NHQ, missed out on some of the more important post NO developements [the beast, so what was that really]...

and following this i would like to make 3 points:
- my name is actually tait, its just a stupid name i always use, meaning potato cakes, taita_cakes, get it *laughs profoundly at own joke*... but im not entirely sure whether you yanky devils eat them or "potato scallops" as the brits may no it... my name is scottish and it means cheerful... ^_^

- if any doubted cxwq's new n00b orientation program, here is the proof, i only hope there are many more newbs like this guy here....

- this is one of the infamous n00b or newb posts, in my opinion a n00b is a l33+ for a completely annoying idiotic newbie, and a newb represents a rather normal newbie, thats my personal opinion, thats what i mean, deal with it....
