So i just modded my mav, took out the ARs and put in a second spring (it might be an NF, im not sure). Now that ive got i firing, its an uber bitch to cock and the ranges dont look great either.
The first time I made stefans I made them without weights.

take out the extra spring. the MAv cannot handle extra pressure to the trigger mech.you will eventually destroy the gun.

Forgive my spelling and grammar. I post from my cell phone a lot. Sometimes when I'm on the can at work.

"my mav" "the ranges dont look great either."

Your problem is the first quote and the second quote is normal for them. They look cool and feel great but they don't get the job done.

Restore the original spring to the gun and add several pennies to the back end of the spring (4 or 5 should be enough). This will get rid of dead space in the gun and should give some extra range to the darts.

Don't worry so much about what other people will allow. Throw your own wars and kick your friends' asses until they all want one.

Thats not what dead space is.... Thats just compressing the spring to push the plunger tube faster.

The reason your range decreased is because you took out the AR's. When you get the AR's out, you remove the stick, and hollow out the rest. When you take out the Air Restrictor, there is less air flow to the dart, because the AR was kind of like a connector.

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

I pulled out the ARs, but I left the pieces with the pegs, although I snapped the pegs off. I added 3 pennies at the back and it's working splendidly. I was thinking of doing a straw-mod and maybe a doing a little work on the back of the turret, I'll post a topic when I get around to it.

I found that the straw mod did NOTHING at all to mine. Neither lowered nor raised ranges. But good luck with that.

well, if it did nothing, then I'm not going to go through the trouble of doing it. Hmm... I'll figure something out.

Anyway, I range tested my Mav just a little bit ago and I found that I get 40ft at about a 15* angle (I'm 6' 3") w/ a 2 1/2" stefan weighted with a 3/0 lead split-shot and there's still enough energy in the stefan to go beyond that (my test range is 40ft indoors and it's currently too windy to bother testing outside.)

Anyway, current mods in order:
Penny Mod (Added 3 pennies, 2001, 1985, and 1972)
AR removal
Dart pegs snapped off, but the base of peg holder is still attached
Flip-out turret
Increased seal w/ Master Plumber ™ Silicone Grease (slathered it on without remorse)

I'm getting 40ft at least at a 15* angle. I'm aware a Mav isn't an idea weapon, but it gets the job done in terms of a rapid fire side arm.

Lesson: Don't doubt the modded Mav in the right hands ^^

i've done the straw mod a few times as well and also see it to be a huge waste of time. Actually most mods to the mav are a waste of time. Unless you can overcome the inherant flaw of the mav (the seal between the plunger and the barrels.) nothing you do to it will make it better. Any extra power you put thru it is lost as soon as it hits the back of the barrels. I've found the best way of overcoming this is to fire the gun upsidedown. The only Mav I actually like shooting is the one that is intergrated into my LS. It is mounted upside down and shooots slightly better then all my other Mavs.

Hmm... I always wonder how they get those INSANE ranges in the commercials, but because it's commercial, I know it's staged.

Anyway, I'm aware that the most fatal flaw of the Mav is the seal between the turret and the chamber. If I come up with a good fix for it, I'll post my findings. I've always been one for pioneering the unthinkable. If I can get the poor thing up to 50ft+ on a flat shot, I'll be impressed.

Wish me luck, everyone! *goes off to mod the CRAP out of his Mav*

Please look at the modification directory for F_A24's mod.

I believe those mods are great in keeping the mav in good shape and will seal the gap you are talking about.

PS: I have noticed I have used the F_A24 name in the past few of my posts and I woulds like to say: I am not a F_A24 fanboy.
