My personal new favorite is the SM750. It is definitely worth saving your pennies and then buying this one off someone. You can get 90ft ranges, it is small and compact, and takes all of 4 pumps to prime. Coupler'd it has a good ROF. I would abandon the DS/NF idea, and get this one. You won't be dissapointed.

Or, you can get an AirTech 2000. Same ranges, just a bit bigger, but still the size of a side-arm.

I prefer the AT2k. I dislike spring and plunger guns, and use air nerf weapons almost exclusively. In fact, yeah. It's safe to say that I do not have a single springed nerf gun, because my maverick broke.

It's a tradeoff, really. I sarifice rate of fire for greater range. My AT2k can pick targets off reliably at sixty feet. Spamming darts can hit targets farther than that if I angle it. And I'm not even using the best mod, and that's only with stock darts. It also has less moving parts. I have never had an air gun break on me, and my maverick broke the slider bar only after a few months of use. Bleck.

I do hear good things about the NF though. It's really cheap, and it's really easy to modify. So if you're new to Nerf, I would recommend that. But keep your eyes peeled for an AT2k. Mod it, and you won't be disappointed.

I have been using a crossfire for a long time. I lubed the o-ring on the plunger with petroleum jelly(for a better seal) and attached a cpvc barrel. Then I cut off the top mount rail and bottom storage compartment. Lastly, I added a DTG spring, Unlike the maverick, the cocking mechanism is strong enough to support a stronger spring. Now it is about 7" long x 4" tall, and gets about 55' ranges w/ stefans. I bought a $5 airsoft pistol holster at walmart and it fits great. Combined with a homemade ammo belt, it serves me as a great sidearm.

I also have several nf's and all versions of the TTG, and found the need for a light, easily carried sidearm to surpass the need for power in a sidearm. If they're that far away, just reload your Primary.

Personaly I use the sm750 in a way no one else seems to use it. It is coupler'd and I have a bout 5 clusters of staggered barrels to act like clips. I have 4 barrels in each cluster. That makes 20 shots before having to stuff any darts ito CPVC. I have always used this for sidearms, and sometimes even for primaries (BBB)
Try it with any sidearm you get to increase the ROF. CPVC is soo cheap, it is really worth it.

Bullshit you have a BBB spring in your NF. That thing will break after 5 shots.

It shouldn't be that hard to believe. My friend and I put a BBB spring in my NF and it shot like a dream. The only thing that happened was the spring pushed the barrel out and down a little, so we just had to use some glue to hold it in place and keep a seal when it shot.

You guys should realy go and try it, so that you can see how it does work and how great it shoots. Even if I did post pictures you would still criticize me and say how it isnt realy a BBB spring. Go try it. It wont break.

But it still makes a relatively loud sound.

This man is completely right. Think about it in these terms: In actuality the maximum load of a Handyman #9713 spring when fully compressed is about 25 lbs., people put these in their NFs all the time without cutting them down and they don't have frequent breakage. Last I checked the maximum load of a BBB spring was, at most, 22 lbs., more likely around 20 lbs. or at least 18 lbs., so why should there be a problem when the BBB spring is actually less powerful than a spring people commonly put in their NFs.
