I got pissed off with my nitefinder plunger because it started to bend whenever I put too many rubber bands on it. I decided to make a new one out of aircraft grade aluminum. It required a mill, a nylon wheel, and a band saw, which I had access to through my robotics team. I haven't replaced the actual head of the plunger where the o ring is, yet, although that seems the logical next step. Also I want to make a badass pull ring for it in some cool shape. Here are some pictures of what I ended up with.





And finally, the entire gun, including rubber bands and my airsoft barrel mod.



The performance is identical to a normal spring modded nitefinder, except the plunger won't bend, no matter how many rubber bands you put on it.

Well after the pictures loaded on my computer I have to say it's pretty nice though a better spring might do; however, I aplaud you on your ingenuity and actually following through with it.

Once I get into my milling courses in college, I want to make all the internals of ALL my Nerf guns from steel or aluminum. Then I can put whatever springs I want in them and get some SERIOUS ranges out of them ^^

Great job. You should see if you can make more and talk to Slug about prices, if I recall correctly from my delving, he's been selling some of the custom parts me makes for his guns.

I aplaud you on everything you did. EXCEPT the fact that you said you airsoft modified it. If you want an airsoft gun go buy an airsoft gun. Aside from that good job.

It's just a removable insert, you can pull it out and revert to nerf. By the way the 6mm barrel in the insert is also aluminum.

Also you can't add infinite rubber bands because the plastic cocking mechanism will get shredded by the aluminum, so the cocking mechanism needs to be replaced, too.

Don't bother machining a new plunger head. You can use steel and rubber washers to get a much better seal. I'll post the parts you need when I get back from work.

Just an idea to make it more comfortable (im guessing that the aluminum is kinda sharp...) dip the part you pull back with in plasti dip. Other than that and the whole airsoft thing i like it a lot.

No wonder you used AIRCRAFT GRADE ALUMINUM.

However, if you have the cash to use a block of aircraft grade aluminum for just this, I will assume you have the money to make a full set of metal internals for a Razorbeast, Like Badger said he wanted to.

I also assume you must have access to hightorque and highspeed motors.

7075 aluminum isn't that expensive.

I don't know how long it took you, or how much it cost, but I would buy some off you, if you would make more. This is seriously cool. I wonder if it is possible to make it for THE BEST SIDEARM EVER, the SS1.

Slug is right, I just used box beam and sheet, so it was pretty cheap. Thom, thank you in advance for helping with the parts for the plunger head, I have been looking for the o rings or gasket or whatever for a while. Once I redid the spring and plunger head, I was going to finish up with this project and head on to a bigger gun, but if there's a lot of interest in such things, I could invest in making for more plungers for you guys.

I recently replaced the top half of my plunger head with a washer, I need to reassemble it back into the gun soon, but it seems like it will work.

Good idea, I'm glad somebody finally did something like this. As Thom described, making a new plunger head out a a strong material would be a good idea.

Do you mean that you made the barrel thinner somehow so it would fit Airsoft BB's?
Because that is exactly what I did to my nitefinder. BB guns are illegal in Aus. so I made my own(sort of).
I got the foam from a Tommy 20 dart and stuffed in the brass barrel I put in. Then I loaded a Tic-Tac( YES A TIC TAC they don't sell bb's here) in and shot it.
