[A side of nerf]

Alright, this is my finished L.I.D.


I originally just posted general information about this gun, But I decided to turn it into a write up.
Here is the official write up.
Materials

• 1in.PVC (SCH 40)
• 1/2in. PVC (SCH 40)
• 1/2in PVC (SCH 20)
• 1/2in. CPVC
• Dowel Rod*
• Spring*
• 1/2in. CPVC T Coupler
• 1/2in. PVC x-coupler
• 1in. PVC end cap
• 1/2in. PVC end cap

* The size of dowel rod and spring depend on your preferences. A bigger spring means better ranges. The size of the dowel changes according to the spring size; the dowel must be able to fit inside of the spring.

Step 1:

Cut the 1in. PVC to about 9 1/2 in.
Step 2:

Drill a hole through the 1in. PVC end cap big enough for the dowel rod to fit through but not the spring.
Step 3:

The Plunger is a stick of 1/2in. SCH 40 PVC with a 1/2in. PVC endcap on it. The endcap is sanded down untill it fits in 1in. PVC. Then you sand a groove in the endcap for an o-ring.
Step 4:

Attach the dowel rod to a 1/in PVC or CPVC T-coupler.
Step 5:

Slide the 1in. PVC end cap over the the dowel then slide the spring over it.
Step 6:

Attach the plunger to the end of the dowel.

My plunger is attached by drilling a hole through the plunger rod and dowel, then sliding a pin through.
Step 7:

The barrel is somewhat tricky, wrapa piece of 1/2in. CPVC in electrical tape until it is airtight inside 1/2in. SCH 20 PVC. Then. wrap the the piece of 1/in. SCH 20 PVC in electrical tape until it fits airtight in the 1in PVC shell. Then slide it into the shell until the 1/2in. SCH 20 PVC is flush with the end of the 1in. Shell.
Step 8:

Cut off the top of the x-coupler, (this is where the barrel sticks out). Fasten the opposite end to the 1in.PVC with hot glue.
Step 9:

Now attach a PVC handle to one of the couplers.
Step 10:

This handle is two pieces of 1/2in. PVC cut at an angle to fit onto the gun. They are attached by two bolts, and fastened to the gun with Liquid Nails and E-Tape.

Nice, but if it has no trigger, why add a second handle for stability? Do you have three arms ? That would be awesome. Good homemade!

I just added the second handle for looks. Without it, it looked like a caulking gun. It was originally supposed to look like the Battle Rifle from Halo, but because of its size it didn't look right.

So what is on the tip of the dowel? An endcap? If so what size? Ive been trying for sometime to find out what sizes are best... Before I attempt to make a spring homemade (other than my syringe one).

I know what you mean, it always seemed like I could never get a straight answer. Here's a picture so it can help you.

This end cap is for use in 1in. PVC, it is a 1/2in. PVC end cap on 1/2 in PVC stick. The 1/2in end cap was sanded down until it fit into the 1in. PVC. Then I dremeled a groove and put an o-ring on it. On the very end, the plastic thing is a syringe head with the black part taken off. I think it helps it, but the black part was to tight in there. Also make sure before you put your plunger in, give it some silicone spray. It won't dry out like 3 in 1 oil will. I hope that helped you.

That gun looks pretty cool and I like the front handle look (although, like everyone is saying, a trigger is needed but its good that you're working on one).

You know, what you could do is cut a little piece out of the top part of the barrel (the thing sticking out at the end of the gun) and make a little sight. A black paintjob would make this thing look awesome.

A side of nerf- The o-ring should be the only thing touching the inside of the plunger tube. In the picture, it looks like it is not even toching the inside wall.

Which picture, and the o-ring does have a seal on the wall, I'm just not quite sure what you mean.

In the most recent picture you posted, it looks like the o-ring is smaller than the endcap.

Qui'lan Fett- The o-ring just barely clears the end cap. I was using an electric drill with dremel bits and it was hard to control and the groove was to big, so it's not the grestest seal though which is why I reinforced it with the syringe head. I have to admit though this plunger is rather crappy looking but works so far. The reason this plunger is in such a banged up condition is because it was a plunger I was using it in a different gun I was making which never worked, so i t has holes in it and its all scrathed up.

Can you post a size comparison picture just so we know how big it is. Compare it to a NF or some gun that we all have the size of. It seems to me like the ranges that you are getting are not what they could be. It's either your gun is smaller than I think, or you have a bad seal on your plunger head and plunger tube.

As for the range problem, i'm going to make a new plunger eventually, and those ranges are with stock velcros, not stefans.

Just figured Id follow up with what I posted. I screwed it up and used 1.5 inch pvc(I think) but I got the whole shell completed so Im going to try and make it work.

Alright I finished the trigger and painted it black.


Here's a close up of the trigger, it's just your standard clothespin trigger.


And this is just a picture of it primed so you know it actually works


Now with that being done, I am about to start work on the L.I.D. V2, it's going to be a version of this that is a pistol. Also, ranges have slightly improved on The L.I.D. because I put a thicker O-ring on the plunger head.

Dang that thing looks so freaking cool! It really reminds me of an mp5k, which is pretty sweet. Hopefully you can get some better performance out of that thing and post how you made it, because I'd love a gun that looks like that.

Nice, fugly but functional. How strong is the spring? It dosen't look very strong in the picture. How long is the barrel? I think a longer one could get better ranges, because with a quick guestamite it doesn't look long enough for the plunger tube.

What spring are you using in that? I would suggest slapping a screen door closer spring in there, its plenty big enough. Get one of these and break it open with a hammer, you won't be disappointed. http://www.lowes.com...20BL&lpage=none

Just for the heck of it I want to build this but where did you find Schedule 20 PVC. I searched online and I found people talking about it on forums but nowhere had it for sale. I like the handle idea, it's creative. Is it sturdy?

I don't know about the rest of the country, but the Lowe's here in the Massachusetts area carry Schedule 20 PVC.
