I've been NERFing for awhile. I've had my fair share of old guns. I'm pretty sure I may have had a Lock 'N' Load at one point, but before I became serious about NERFing, it never dawned on me to save those guns. Now I find myself apprehensive before opening things... Should I open this Disk Shot/ Nite Finder EX-3? Now, there are plenty in stock right now, but I have a sneaking suspicion that these will be the Lock 'N' Loads tomorrow. I'm not trying to inspire paranoia, but for the future, I've got 3 NFs NIB, and one Disk Shot NIB, just in case...

Yeah, since I want people to comment, has anyone ever found themselves considering ideas like this? What have you done for the future of NERF?

Id mod one if I were you. Keep the rest. But who knows, I don't think they are going to phase out the NF anytime soon, and it took the LNL years to become the popular gun it is today. By then you may no longer nerf. And With your huge sale, you could easily afford new NFs.
By the way, you don't have to put the goofy code after the name of the gun.
Example: Maverick Rev6. Leave out the rev6. Everyone will still know what you are talking about.

I have a modded NF. I integrated the NiteVision into it.

And I know about the code, I just like being precise...

Thought about it for a split second on my ride home from Kohls, two AT2k's in hand. The thought quickly pasted from my mind and I started opening one.

That said, of the current era of Nerf guns, I think the Nightfinder and Longshot will stand out the brightest, but who knows. Maybe the Firefly will be the most prized Nerf gun of the N-Strike line? :D Who knows what the future will REALLY bring?

Sort of like how the Mono Blast fell into obscurity behind the more popular LnL? God, I want a Mono Blast.

The NF will be around for a long time, in some form or another. I'd worry more about these guns:

1. The RF20, which is growing a bit rarer

2. The AT2k and other AirTech line guns

3. The TTG. I'm not sure if it is even made anymore.

One thing is for sure, the Nitefinder will not become the Lock n' Load of tomorrow. Just about everybody has one or more nitefinders, they are not rare. There's more than enough of them to go around, so no one will have to try very hard to find them. But other guns like the Firefly, which no one seems to like around here (with the exception of a few, including me) could become popular or rare. I don't know, all we can do is stock up on guns like there's going to be a zombocalypse (Zombie Apocalypse) and wait to see what the future holds.

Who cares? Just fucking nerf and stop worrying about how valuable your guns will be in 5 years.

Are you being sarcastic, or are you serious? Sarcasm really doesn't transmit on the Internet.

Rather than looking to the past and yearning for what I can't have anymore, I'd much rather experience what I can today.

Whatever guns are available today, I'll find the ones I want to try modding. I won't keep them brand-new and save them for later unless I bought a few of them for a great deal. What's the point? There will always be new guns to try, no matter how much harder they are to mod.

No, the NF/DS won't be tomorrow's LNL. If anything I think it will be AT2Ks and Spideys. I can see the Spideys being discontinued while it retains its place as one of the best integrating weapons.

Who knows what the future will REALLY bring?

I do, but I can't tell you. One has to protect causality and all that jazz.

My little brother had an LnL years ago. I remember being fascinated my that little flip-up sight and the slide mechanism. He hated the fact that I always wanted to mess around with his gun. But I suppose such is the nature of brotherhood. I wish I still had that little gun now, though.

As far as the future goes, I have a bunch of LS/Recon clips now, and more on pre-order from Hasbro. I am willing to bet that they go out of stock before the come off pre-sale status. So I can make a buck there. In regards to which guns will be valuable in 5 years, there really isn't a way to know. The LS may be popular because a magazine fed gun is a nice advantage. If a gun is popular enough, however, it won't leave production, so its value won't really go up. All I can say is bide your time. And then Hasbro can go and re-release a blaster from the past and make all your "future collectible" purchases worthless. Life is funny like that.

This may be the wrong thread, but I have something to say. A longshot is $30, a brass breech is around $25, plus much hard work. My last homemade (soon to be posted) is just as good as an Angel Longshot and only cost about $12 total supplies and the hardest part is... well, it's all easy. I don't mean to sound braggish, but in my opinion, homemades will always be just as good or better than store-bought guns, with the exception of semi and full autos. Even the legendary crossbow was equaled by a homemade. Granted, it does cost $80 to make, but a cheaper version could be made. For those of you who call BS on my claims, it is a Custom FAR. Clothespin trigger, shotgun foregrip, clipfed (duh), PETG barrel, perfect plunger seal, and it is about 20" long without the barrel. I've been busy and discouraged by my negative comments on NHQ, but I will make a point of posting it.

My point is, I think homemades are the future, but we have a long way to go before we can make semi and full autos as well and as cheaply as Hasbro does. Thus, stock up on magstrikes, hornets, Big Salvo's, and Vulcans.

Yeah, since I want people to comment, has anyone ever found themselves considering ideas like this? What have you done for the future of NERF?

Not a damn thing, short of contribute about $400 to Hasbro, and another hundred or so to Buzz Bee and Lanard. A few more when I decide to get a couple Vulcans.

I probably spent an equal amount to Hasbro for My Little Pony toys for my daughter over the last few years (she's over 50 in her collection, plus the larger-size ponies, and videos/ DVDs.)

If you want to speculate on new kid's toys, go right ahead, you could probably make a buck or two with reselling your NFs, but not much more. They're not first-gen NFs so you won't get top dollar for them.

Ask cxwq (well, don't....he's not always around anymore), but he spent a pretty penny buying large stocks of AirTech weapons, and Lanard Max Shots. But he's not selling them. He's keeping them for his own use, as they're not the most durable things on the planet.

Trust me, if you're going to do this with hopes of making money, forget it. You'd be better off mowing lawns to make real income. If you're going to be like Orange and collect one or more of every kind of every Nerf blaster, to enjoy it for what it is, then you're on the right track.

But there's no stopping you from pursuing your intentions. Good luck.

Quite honestly, I was just curious if anyone had ever had the thought before. I just opened my Disk Shot, and 1 NF. I gave the other two as gifts to younger cousins, then I broke mine (not my NiteVisionFinder, the one I opened recently)...

I can say that I've definitely thought of it before. After seeing the prices of X-bows and LnL's, I was thinking about hoarding Nitefinders. Then I got a job, and realized that with the space taken up by all those Nitefinders, and having to wait so long for their prices to go up, I'd be better off with a job. The extra $20 I may make in 2-3 years off selling a 1st gen NF is outweighed by the satisfaction I get from modding one and nailing someone 40 feet away in the head with a plastic toy gun, yelling "HEADSHOT" and trying to get into my room and lock the door before the victim decides to suplex me. Unfortunately, there have been a few times where I didn't quite close the door fast enough.
