Paper mache...now I think I've heard everything.

Got a new idea: Hardware cloth. Stuff is strong and easy to find.

And, there is always balsa wood. The stuff is light, fairly durable when supported correctly, and is cheap and availible at most hobby stores. With some wiring or crafty taping, some type of adhesive, and a bit of those m4d sk1llz, you could pull this off.

I would suggest using flat sheets of ABS plastic mounted on each side of the gun with generous amounts of duct tape covering the bottom. That would at least keep anything from getting in the gun or harming the internals as well as keeping the weight of the gun down (the clay would be too heavy and also might make it impossible to reopen the gun in the future).

As far as reenforcing it.... I'd say use long machine bolts w/nuts connected to those metal fastening strips that look like erector set pieces.

Or just bury the thing in a shallow grave to the sound of Taps being played... gently.

Not sure, Ash knows but he visits the forums about as often as the Pope gets head. Check hobby shops and Automotive detail stores (Vacc got ABS that's used for mounting speakers). You're gonna need a dremel or a good coping saw to cut it thought, fyi.

Yeah, if you're gona use that sort of thing, you should read up on how to drill it and cut it without cracking it or warping it. I'm not sure about abs specifically, but I know some plastics can be a big pain in the ass that way in sheet form.

Yeah, from what I've seen it doesn't really crack but you need a tool that will make a nice clean cut. Forget trying to use a razor blade or hacksaw.
