I think a lot of you guys are taking Badger's words far too seriously. I highly doubt he's actually sitting there at his computer yelling and bitching at the screen. People can get annoyed and sound like they're genuinely pissed.

I seen like I am online all the time because either it is an open tab on my computer or it is caused by my cellphone. Once I log in, it keeps me on until I logout.

Trust me, I have a life outside of NH. A beautiful girlfriend of nearly two years now that lives with me, a job that sends me all over the globe and uses the talents I learned in the military, and a wonderful godson that all of my attention when he is around. No worries about me wasting my life here.

I was wondering when someone was going to post something of this nature. I have to say that I agree entirely, there are a lot of idiots on this forum. There hasn't really been any impressive homemade threads in a few weeks. OfAll' is the only one doing write-ups on a regular basis, I don't know where he finds the time and the guns, but there have been other good additions to the Mods section, and some really bad ones (remember the toilet paper mod?). I also hate the concept threads too, you know, the ones where someone asks how to make a gun that uses firecrackers or CO2 to shoot nerf darts. I know that I'm fairly new and all but I think that I can say what I'm saying based on the fact that I am literate and have some decent sense in my head.

Sorry Badger,

I have been away from the Haven for quite some time (school, work, real life). I usually like to backseat moderate a bit (not to incur punishment onto those that do annoying things, but to steer them in the right direction and explain what is right and what is wrong). Usually explaining how things go here makes better members out of people. I hope this doesn't anger any of the moderators, but some small offenses usually don't warrant a suspension or even an adminstrator stepping in (but a friendly and curteous kick in the ass from somebody else can usually help).

I should be back on and browsing the forums more frequently in a few weeks after this semester is over, and hopefully we can help guide some of the newer members towards our much-loved NerfHaven etiquette.

At first I found the hard-assery around here to be a refreshing change from the sort of 12-year-old populated wastelands of the internet, but to be honest the novelty has worn off and now you look a little precocious. People waste more time and energy calling each other out on things already; I just kind of get the vibe that six people posting "wow, you really ought to be banned for this post" and then three more posting "you shouldn't post in a thread just to tell people they're about to be banned" isn't really how the place was intended to operate. The essential problem of NH is that the nature of the activity attracts a lot of kids who fit squarely into the prepubescent e-penis-concerned videogame-forum-flamewar stereotype, and I think that will continue to be the main struggle on this forum until the day it dies. I'm not even terribly sure how that could even be addressed; mandatory no-post periods of a month or two following account registration? That would ensure that people had a better idea of how this place operates and would kill some of the noob questions from potential members with little patience, but could maybe repulse actual wanted members. Raise the age limit to fifteen or sixteen (or beyond) maybe?

In short, I was rather off-put to see yet another one of these threads. The fact that it exists is probably in indicator we're doing something wrong; whether that means our expectations are too high or that new members aren't understanding (or any number of other problems) remains to be discovered.

Okay, listen up, fools. I am only 13 years old. In fact, back when I first joined NH, Piney suspended me for a few weeks because I was too young. This may be my opinion, but I have never posted any useless crap on this forum. There are 20-year-olds on this forum with worse grammar than me. Age is not a judge of character, intelligence, or maturity. I mean, look at Dark Shrimp(joking)! The only legit reason that every under 13-year-old should be banned is COPPA. Changing the minimum age to 15 will not make a difference. End rant.

I apologize for getting off-topic, but Ubermensch, you're only 13? Wow. Or were you joking?
I'm 14 and young for my grade, but would anyone be able to tell from my posts? (I actually don't know If anyone could tell, how old did you guys assume I was?)

13...

Badger posted a great ARTICLE (cough cough).

Also, I think that a lot of people are crammed right now (long month of school and sports are a deadly combo).

Everyone needs to GET OFF THEIR ASS AND NERF. If you are about to fall asleep and are keeping up with the forums, it's okay provided you actually nerf when you can.

Yeah, I'm only 13. You couldn't tell, right? And now that I've posted it, nobody will ever think of me in the same way. Yay!

Could we make it a rule to not post "lol ima sig that lol"
I can't stand it when someone posts in a thread just to say something like that.

Also, I wholeheartedly agree with the post you made, Badger. I found it quite comical that in each paragraph, "Fuck" was used.

So should the administrators take it less seriously and take a break, allowing all that they have worked for to go to shit? Should ompa let up and let things fall apart? No, we care about NerfHaven. Both the admins, the founders, and many of us older members. We care about a place where we can express our ideas and the admins want it run a certain way. if you don't like it, too bad.

So maybe i said it the wrong way. I meant he shouldn't be afraid of him. I know there are some people that put alot of time and money to run this place, and i respect that. But thats were it stops, respect, not fear.

Threads like these give me a massive headache because they seem to miss the point. The Problem and the Solution are, in fact, one and the same.

The forums, ideally, should be a reference and a resource for active nerfers, not a refuge or community. And yet the nature of the hobby itself and the people it attracts makes a more involved and fluid (high member turnover is inevitable) community unavoidable. And since there is no real money in it for anyone not named Hasbro, it is impossible to maintain an administrative staff that monitors and moderates the site 24/7.

The only way to maintain such a community is to set the guidelines and make sure that the members themselves are immersed enough in the community to have an intellectual investment. This leads to annoying backseat moderating and flames, but unfortunately, that is the only way to keep the forum somewhat policed without a full time administrative team.

The resource and reference is still there, but the only way to maintain it is to accept the community that sprouts up around it. It's a symbiotic relationship that we really can't abandon.
