I have been around here for a while, and have not done anything significand mod wise. I have learned a lot, and wanted to change that. I aquired my SS1 a few days ago. Recently, I had a nerf war with my friends. We had a blast, but half of them use micros, and the other half swear by megas. This put me into a dillema of what I could shoot back with my NF. When I got my ss1, I decided to mod it to shoot far, and both kinds of ammo. Here it is.

Posted Image

First off, I took out the internals, lubed and etaped the plunger head, and stretched the spring. Then, I added a small spring (3/4 of the length of the stock one) that is really strong, so strong that my dad can't compress it.
Posted Image
EDIT: I purposely left the pics big so you could see the detail. If you have an issue with it, I will resize it, if enough people aske me to.
Then I took my mega firing barrel (I think it's 3/4 cpvc or the like), and put it against the plunger tube, and cut the shape of it out, and epoxied and etaped it to the plunger tube.
Posted Image
I then cut a piece of CPVC and etaped one end. Since my SS1 didn't come with the secret firing thing, I use it to hold my micro firing barrel. (It needs the etape to hold it in the micro barrel)
Posted Image
I dremeled down the case for it to all fit, and put it all together, and etaped in a few key places to keep it together.
And VOILA. I get about 70flat with micros, 55flat with megas. It takes about 2 seconds to change barrels.
I put on a band for a bit of extra power and stability. Here it is with the micro barrel in. In case you didn't know, you shove the micro barrel down the mega barrel.
Posted Image

Thats it! I believe this is all unique. Questions? Comments? Flames?
I will be selling it soon, so watch the sale's forum.
EDIT: I purposely left the pics big so you could see the detail. If you have an issue with it, I will resize it, if enough people aske me to. Please tell me what you think. I would like to know how my modding skills size up.

On mine, the shell has cracked atound where the plunger handle hits the shell. You might want to keep an eye out for that.

Normal stuff, but good job.

Cool, but keep in mind, nerf plunger tubes are'nt steel. Your gonna need to put something soft, (like a felt disc, or ssomething to soften the blow on the top o the plunger tube, because with that powerful of a spring in there, added, your gonna need to reinforce it. But otherwise, I like it! And those ranges are with stock darts, right? But why are you going to sell it?

It's not like that. I put lube on it and its the same. Its just stuck. And when I cock it back it goes farther back then usual. Also I push as hard as I can and it wont go back in. I've tried the methods and they wont work. Also pics are up.

Definitely reinforce it, but other than that it looks nice. Personally I would have made one barrel mega and one micro if you had the barrel selector, but like you said you didn't.

Thanks everyone. Yes, the ranges were measured using stock darts. Im going to put the foam in, except not in the handle because that's where I store my micro barrel when firing megas. You guys may have very well saved my gun's life.

You don't really need cushioning on the end of the plunger, becuse it is not a hard plastic one like the nf. It's is a pretty a rubbery kind of plunger head, so it won't do much damage.

Thanks Dr.Moose. I think I will fill it with FBR, because it is loud as hell, even louder than my sawtooth.

If the spring is in fact that strong, I'd worry about the plunger head flying right off, especially since you have dual springs in there. I'd also worry about the catch face wearing down very, very fast.

With industrial springs, I'm one of those guys that thinks that unless the plunger tip/rod is either easily replaceable or very easily reinforced, it's too risky to put a spring of that magnitude in. And as for the replacement, I the only way I can think of is some type of polycarbonate square rod that you could cut a new catch face out of and therefore make a new plunger rod, and if memory serves me correctly there is no good way to reinforce an SS1 plunger rod.

I really don't know why people put such strong springs in their guns, I'm always worried the thing will burst apart on me.

Otherwise, nice mod.

I filled the empty spaces with FBR. I put a bit on the plunger head. It actually improved the range by about 2 ft. This is NOTHING compared to what I have coming up though. Oh yeah. FA24: Could you add this to the directory? Thanks
