EDIT: UPDATES, PAGE 3!

Well, I had the idea over spring break to do something a little different. I wanted a Nightfinder that would be worthy of primariness (the state of being a primary). Working on my FAR, I got some plunger ideas and starting drawing it up in my head. Here are the results:

Posted Image

Yeah, its a monster. Ranges are ~100 feet flat, and +120 at a 5-10 degree angle. And yes, I realize its pretty fugly now, its going to be painted as soon as I am sure that its reliable. It was rock solid in the war I went to today, biofreak2 can attest to that. It is built with a thin wall 1" PVC plunger tube, and a 1/2" PVC end cap for the plunger, with a 15/16" x 1/8" O-ring. The spring is part of the spring from a screen door closer. These springs are giant and really strong, highly recommended for homemades I would say. Here are some pictures of the building process:

Questions, comments, head shaking accompanied by several "Why?"s out loud? Let me know.
EDIT: There are more pictures in the proceeding posts.
EDIT II: The pictures in this reply of the finished blaster are Daedalus II, a rebuild of the original, hence the different shells.

Why duck tape? I might try to get my hands on one of those springs now... Nice job alltogether.

Why duck tape?

Because its removable. And you just can't do a mod without it. I glued it the first time, but then something broke and it made a mess. I'm still contemplating a better system of attachment.

Do you know where you can get the spring from? I don't really want to tear apart my screen door for one. Also, how long is the plunger tube, and what did you use to connect the two plunger rods? I have two stock nitefinders at the moment and was thinking about doing something like this. Did you use the stock end piece for the plunger rod from a nitefinder or did you make a different one? Nice mod by the way, incredible ranges too.

Dude, that's awesome. I don't care if people say it's ugly or you should take off the duct tape.
It's a pistol... And it gets 100'. That's what matters.
You should make a holster for it. Hah.

You did a very good job. That is a pretty big spring, those are also very impressive ranges, ~100 feet, great job. I like how you connected the plunger tube and used duct tape because it was romovable. Great job.

@Chili: You can buy a screen door closer and break it apart if you wanted to. I just had a broken one around. The plunger tube is ~7", including the plunger face. There are actually 3 different rods there, connected by gluing 5/32" music wire in the grooves. The plunger head is entirely different, if that's what you mean.
@g-force: There is very little left of the actual NF, but yes.
@Green: It is exactly like it. I just went and 1-up'd it by using a larger diameter(more volume) plunger tube, and new spring and plunger head.

EDIT @ Green: It has a coupler, and I still want access to the internals. I am gonna paint it at some point I'm sure but right now I am still tweaking.

I suggest a paintjob! And perhaps using the same basic assembly, you can permanently install it, only with a coupler as to provide swappable barrels. That would be awesome. Il est muy bueno. GOOD MOD.

Concerning my question, what is exactly did you make the plunger head out of? Also do you have any pictures of said plunger head?

EDIT: I saw the pic but what's it made out of?

Yeah, no problemo. The head is a 1/2" PVC endcap, with a piece of 1/2" PVC inside, and then the O-ring, then a piece of a 1/2" coupler. Like so:

I'd be very worried that the plunger itself will not hold up for long. I'd recommend rebuilding it out of a long piece of polycarbonate (like CS's +bow), or aluminum, if you don't have access to the polycarbonate.

Otherwise, I'd say a job well done; it's definitely a take on a NF that I haven't seen often, if at all.

At Home Depot They sell screen door springs for about 4$ i think. Thats for just the spring and none of the fixtures.

To me it looks messy, hard to aim, and as if it's going to break.

Im sure a little epoxy and plumbers goop will improve that and more.

Heh... I had an idea like this. I was planning to do it with a Disk Shot and an LS plunger tube, didn't quite know what to use for a spring though, thanks for the idea of using one from a screen door closer, they are pretty strong. Nice job anyhow.

When speaking about a swallow, always make sure you know whether it is an African or European swallow. It is very important.

The bottom line is that it's not totally complete. Functionally, its finished. It fires darts, and all the parts of the gun function as planned. And it is very messy, but the final version is going to have something other than duct tape to hold the plunger tube, and a paint job. The plunger rod has failed too, but I'm gonna replace that with some polycarbonate as per ompa's suggestion. And aiming with it is great, I sharpshot someone ~50 ft away on a trampoline from a balcony, hit them on the neck. So, in conclusion, I'm going to address each of these things. I appreciate you bringing them to my attention, however. This community gives great feedback.

I would never dare to do a thing like that. You turned out with a functional, powerful pistol, and I have to give you kudos for that.

And then her mom got scared and said she's movin' with her auntie an uncle in Bel-Air? No? I musta been thinking about something else. Analogkid, it'd be cool to see a size comparison between this and some other pistol-sized guns so we could get a general idea of how big it is. It looks good, and ranges like that definitely prove it's effectiveness.
