I just got this link from a friend over AIM, and needless to say I was pretty blown away:

http://gizmodo.com/3...on-someones-ass

I'm not one for prop making or LARPing for that matter, but I can't help but tip my hat to this guy. As with most props, all this fancy-schmancy stuff won't help the range...but let's face it, it's damned cool looking.

That is pretty sweet, even though I don't really know what "steampunk" is, but it looks good.

Though I don't really think highly of LARP and steampunk in general, this is a sick Longshot.

I'd love to ask the maker if it has any internal mods to increase range.

I give this guy credit to no end on the whole paintjpb and detailing and all the new parts added to it.

But can someone please tell me what the hell is steampunk.
Its pissing me off.

I don't get my kicks out of you,
I don't feel the way I used to do.
I know its bad,
After what we had,
But I’m just not the angel you knew.

Steampunk is a style that is based on an alternate future, if plastic or the combustion engine wasn't invented, so everything is made of metal or wood, and runs on steam power. Sounds kind of stupid, but the stuff looks really cool.

Yeah I saw this gun on Ebay when trying to see if Angel posted his Lancer yet. It does look sweet. Definitely a showpiece. With that said, it's worthless to most of us other than to have a cool gun to look at. I'm a little surprised at the talent of the artist and why they haven't joined our ranks.

Just to point out, that one website that was debuting the Vulcan with the Amer. Gladiators, if you looked at some of their other stuff, the steampunk stuff shows up again.

^ Easy: Steampunk followers are more interested in the aesthetic side of modding. The functional aspect of modding only comes into play when re-imaging a device that requires electronic parts to be repositioned and modified for the device to work (example, a keyboard re-imaged as a brass and wood tyepwriter). Their goal is to retain full functionality of the device while giving it a Victorian-era look.

Nerfers, on the other hand, prioritize improving functionality and performance over aesthetics. That's not to say that we don't give a damn how our guns look. Our goal is to simply to improve performance first, then clean it up and integrate it if necessary.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

I don't even know if this guy is making money on selling it @ $255 right now. The weird button control thing he has is made from a halo 3 legendary edition stand. That alone is $100+ right there and I can't even imagine how much he put into getting those gauges and things.

*Edit: Whoa nevermind it sold for freakin $455 thats insane

I used to be obsessed with steampunk.

What I liked more was the "clarinet gun" that was linked to on that page.

No. I'm not sure if it even fires at all. Its a prop.

And, why do i have a feeling the title on the link suggests people to shove it up peoples arses?

I have yet to figure out why people think that painting something a brass or bronze color and maybe aging the paint makes it steampunk. Steampunk is just the newest buzzword for selling shit on ebay. Neither of the 2 pistols just posted even vaguely resemble anything out of the Victorian Steampunk era, nor does any other nerf gun, with the exception of one heavily modified razorbeast I've seen. That first longshot posted shows off nice painting skills, and good attention to color selection, but IMHO, doesn't bear any resemblance to a steampunk weapon at all. The longshot is just a poor choice to use for this subject matter.

Yes, that's deffinately steampunk. I went through a phase where I was really into steampunk a few months back, and considered making a steampunk longshot. I ended up making a half-assed version, because I realized midway through the project that The longshot shell looks way to modern to do anything steampunk with. Cyberpunk, a la fa24's lancer, lends itself much better to the gun. (The lancer isn't entirely cyberpunk, but it's relatively close.)

Alice came to the fork in the road.
"Which road do I take?" she asked.
"Where do you want to go?" responded the Cheshire cat.
"I don't know," Alice answered.
"Then," said the cat, "it doesn't matter."

Okay, so people make things look old by painting it and adding copper/brass piping + some random nobs/chains/shit? Kinda weird if you ask me. Cool looking, but weird.

Anyways, that longshot looks pretty intense in any case.

Nerf Longshot: $20
Random Pipeing and Knobs: $10
Paint: $15
Getting someone to buy it for $450: Priceless.

Screwing people over is priceless, for everything else theres Mastercard.

As for the legendary know thing, he either bought it off of someone who busted it or had bought the legendary edition and didn't feel like keeping it. Most likely bought it on eBay, and just checked, there's someone selling the whole thing for $35. Wow I can't believe I bought it for $120 when it first came out.
