I picked up a Double Shot yesterday from Toys'r'us, opened it and enjoyed the novelty of it (and still am) I was reasonably happy with the ranges for where I war indoors and decided not to mod it due to lack of supllies here in Australia. But I wanted that slight range increase, just because. So I decieded to create a homemade shell. I have only tested on a Double Shot with great success. Sorry for the poor pictures, I'm not a good photographer  Heres the write up:

Posted Image

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Posted Image

Materials:
Approx. 1 and a 1/2 inches of 12.5mm Clear Vinyl Tubing (CVT) Joiner (12.5mm in diameter, PVC, CPVC may work too)
2 and a bit inches of PETG
A Maverick Air Restricor

Posted Image
Posted Image

Take the Air Restrictor and cut of the three prongs and sand down flat

Next grab your PETG and cut a tiny slit in one end. If using different barrel material, cut as many slits as needed to insert the Maverick Air Restictor (next step)

Posted Image

Insert your air restrictor into the PETG. It should be the perfect, nice, airtight fit.

Posted Image

Now put the PETG into the CVT. A little hot glue around the top (careful not to get on the outside of the CVT) and your finished.

Extra Tips

1) Wrap some etape around the bottom of the shell so that it can catch on the Double Shot 'hooks'
2) Put a small bit of etape on the indide of your PETG to stop the darts falling out
3) Scrape out the Air Restrictor hole a little to make it about the same size hole as an original Buzz bee Shell.

Now for some comparison pictures:

Mine on right, Buzz Bee on left (for any dumbass who can't tell)

In the Double Shot:

No ranges but I can say much better than a stock shell, bettween 10-20ft more range. Overall I'm pleased because its hard to buy shells here an now I can have many more.

Very good. However, you use some uncommon materials, such as the CVT and Maverick air restrictors. I mean, I only have about six of those, and I don't want to buy another mav just to make shells.

@ xNFx37 - In Australia, we have this hardware store called Bunnings. Doesn't have Brass, PVC, CPVC or PETG. Only CVT. I think it was in a section near plastic mesh stuff. I'll have a look next time I go.

@Ubermech - Nitefinder Air Restrictors also work, but need to be drilled out. I'm sure some semi-thick plastic (CD Case thinkness) could be dremelled, and hot glued down and would also work. But AR's are just perfect.

Those maverick air restrictors are also found in most turret guns. If you have a few turret guns lieing around mod them and you have more "maverick air restrictors"

Very interesting, and it looks quite cool. However, every modding-instinct in me is screaming out in anguish over the fact that you just PUT AN AIR RESTRICTOR BACK INTO SOMETHING!

Heh, just kidding. Good ingenuity, and congrats on the increased range!

I live in Aus and its bloody annoying, but they should have PVC though but its mostly for storm water drains and such but their might be some.

Very nice! I actually have some maverick AR's lying on my desk, along with 6 smdtg AR's. I'll have to get some supplies and make these shells.

I guess I don't understand the rarity of CVT, because down here in Austin our Home Depots stock 15, 20, and 50 foot rolls of clear vinyl tubing. (I love Texas.) I have a roll and haven't known what to use it for, besides nesting copper in it for no reason at all. As soon as I get my hands on some brass or PETG I'll do this.

Neat idea. Although I would like to see actual measured ranges.

There must be something other than Maverick ARs that would work for this. Although I might be able to make a few bucks from the ARs I have lying around my room.

Whoa, the backs of your buzz bee shells are blue? Maybe its just an Aussie thing? Anyways, great mod. Chances are if I ever try to mod an RFR again I'll use this.

I like it. I also wish that darts were pink and black as they appear in your uploaded images. That would be ballin'. :D

I used CVT Joiner, not CVT but I can almost guarentee the normal CVT will also work.

Lol. Now I'm the dumbass (please don't sig that)

Very interesting, and it looks quite cool. However, every modding-instinct in me is screaming out in anguish over the fact that you just PUT AN AIR RESTRICTOR BACK INTO SOMETHING!

The air restrictor is more to make that seal that stock darts do. I'm sure you could make the hole bigger but I don't need to because I'm happy with their performance.

I also wish that darts were pink and black as they appear in your uploaded images. That would be ballin'.

They are SMDTG Tagger Darts. Still really cool though.

Here some more details on them:

Name - Prototype Shell CL-S
Tested With - Buzz Bee Double Shot
Ammunition - Stefans, Taggers, Mircos
Range - Approx. 50-60ft
Material - CVT, PEGT, Mav AR
Removable After Firing - Yes (they spring out like stock shells)
Removable Before Firing - Yes (unlike stock shells)
Production Cost -
Diameter - 12.5mm
Lenght - 55mm

Other Notes
Much quieter when clattering to the floor after firing

Since they're vinyl, I'm guessing that they are less likely to shatter when stepped on. This is leading me toward such speculation as that they may be more durable. Does that sound correct? Do tell, old bean, and spot on modification...

That is correct. They are hard but also are very durable. I tested this by throwing one of my 2nd story with force. No damage what so ever.

Ill put a video up soon of me firing them.

I have no problem finding vinyl tubing and I live up here in Connecticut, what's the deal with everyone not being able to locate it? My Lowes stocks it, if you have a local one then check. Nice job here too, the nice thing about this is that it is probably much cheaper, and you can mix and match barrel sizes and materials as long as it fits right. This makes Buzz Bee shell guns much more versatile. I can already imagine some people having entire bandoliers of these shells, nice contribution.

When speaking about a swallow, always make sure you know whether it is an African or European swallow. It is very important.
