I have 30 dollars, a fair ammount of modding skill and targets and Kmarts that sell both. I want a recon, and already own a longshot, however I want to do some crazy modding and make another great gun to make up for my hideously awesome LS. I know with proper modding a LS can get pretty good ranges, but Im wondering is the Recon worth the trouble of modding, only to find out you ruined it? Please hook me up with an answer. I want to have another cool gun/paintjob for the MN war I plan on attending (See Mnno I think)

That all depends, are you going to be shooting people who are less than 5 feet away from you? If so, get the recon.

Dude, you are funny.

However, that does reinforce my idea that Recons have shitty range, and a LS can be minimized if need be. Ok, its settled. LongShot it is.

if you already have a LS and you don't care for size, stick with that one.

And of course, you can always shorten your LS if you want. If you're not doing a new breach/barrel, chopping off everything in front of the chamber actually improves ranges.

My Recon (painted, ARs removed, minor stuff like modifying the dart tooth and e-taping the plunger head) gets 30' at most with Slug-style Stefans and streamlines.

My bet is that it can do a little better with a brass breech and barrel but that's way out of my scope as a modder... Also, you can't do spring replacements if you can't find a spring which fits the plunger tube. At most you can do the stock spring addition mod and a breech, and even then I don't see it getting any more than 50' or 60'.

Go for the Longshot, there's more room for integrations, larger plunger, comes with two magazines, and it's easier to fit springs for it.

Yeah, the other thing I was skeptical about was I heard it only came with one magazine. And now that its been said, LongShot is what Im getting. Recons can wait or not join my arsenal at all. I want another reliable, good range gun, not a crappy clipped maverick. Im already working on one of those.

I don't see why people dislike recons so much. They're okay for a backup or close-range weapon, and they're very small. But if you want a longshot, get it.

Well the thing about a Recon is that although it's really capable of no more than a short-range secondary or indoor gun without real heavy modding, it's still a pretty good gun (I guarantee it's better than a Maverick). And I think it's probably the best ROF and reloading speed for a pistol. It's a lot larger and a little weaker than an NF/TTG/DS but none of those guns can match its speed. It's certainly reliable, the stock bolt hasn't misfed or jammed on my stefans once. I even made the slide smoother when pushing it back to the front. The only thing I don't like is how large it is, you can't jam it in your pocket like the aforementioned pistols minimized.

Personally I LOVE my Recon, enough to buy two since I wrecked one while painting it. It's not crappy at all, in fact I'd say it's better than OK. High ROF and reload speed springer secondary. But when you're asking which is a better buy it almost always defaults to the Longshot, I think. It's basically the same as a Recon, except capable of better ranges with simpler mods like spring replacements. I said to get another LS because BustaNinja said he wanted a good gun for Mnno and I don't think a Recon would suit his needs quite yet. If he's planning an LS as a primary then a Recon would be good as a secondary since you can share magazines, but he doesn't have the LS he's looking for yet.

Actually, I have a LongShot, its red and green and can be found on about poage 60 something of the Mod pictures page. I love it to death, however, its ranges arent the best due to the amount of modding I did to it. But still, Im not at all annoyed with the size of the LS (Infact, I made mine bigger by way to a better stock) so Im going to go with it, plus, 2 more magazines I can share with my other LS is nothing to scauf at.

If you like the recons small size but want better range then buy a longshot and do an AR removal and carbine mod.

Yeah recons are small but they get horrible ranges, so definitely get a ls for the better ranges and carbine mod it if you want it to be small.

I don't see why people dislike recons so much.

They're too bulky and unreliable to be used as a side arm. They're also not accurate or powerful enough to be used as a primary.
Beyond those reasons they're also quite easy to break, not easy to modify, and you can't replace the stock barrel with something more effective without a huge amount of effort.

Yeah, get the LS. I remember at the last MN war when Messiah whipped out his Recon and everyone started laughing at him. I think Flaming Hilt was even criticizing it's name. I hope I finish modding my LS by MNNO too. Hope I see you there.

Looking over the war recap, wasnt there someone with two longshots? one pver each shoulder? this time, he wont be alone. I plan on dual wielding mine aswell. Maybe with my BBB over my back or something

Yeah that was Messiah, same guy who used the Recon. I would like to see how you guys face up against each other. I don't know if it is the most practical thing to do, but if you can handle it go ahead and try it. I remember messiah was shooting from on top of this playground thing that was like a bunch of ropes, which he claimed was a "stoner" idea, and he actually dropped one of his longshots on to the ground and whipped out another gun.

Don't expect anything stronger than that 30ft unless you do the stock mod.

Simple. they are too crappy to be a successful primary without some serious reworking. And they are too large to be good secondarys. you get the same if not better ranges with less work out of a maverick. And that gun costs less then 1/2 as much. The big fail point is the accessorries that the Recon comes with. for 20 bucks you get a gun and a bunch of useless addons that actually take away from ranges.you got a useless barrel extension and some stupid gimick crap light. they would have been better to sell that junk as add on accessories and sell the recon base and stock and thats it. Oh and toss in a second mag.

A Maverick is roughly a little smaller as a Recon, just as much work to pry the damn maverick turret apart, more air leaks than a 50-year old bike tire and a smaller plunger. It is a much less ideal secondary than a Recon. Also, a Maverick will not get better ranges than a Recon.

I'm not about to denigrate someone's opinion of the Recon; you're entitled to your opinion. However I fail to see how someone can compare Mav to Recon ranges. Granted, I use a stock mod, but I get about 60' ( +/- 5-8') with mine including the barrel extension so I can shotgun it. Is there some hard and fast rule for the wars you're going too that only allow two guns? They're freaking plastic. It's not like a Longshot primary, Recon Secondary, *insert tertiary here* is gonna weigh you down that much more. Effective ranges in outside wars rarely exceed 50'. I'm glad your uber LS can toss a dart 100'. I'll still dodge the damn thing before it's halfway to me. No, the Recon is not for someone who doesn't like heavy modding, but neither is the LS. The game is about fun and picking the gun that's FUN to play with, not min/maxing your stats like some DnD rules nazi.
