Nerfers
United
Vancouver
Organization

NUVO is getting back into action for 2009! Please PM or post in this thread if you're in the Lower Mainland. I'm trying to organize our next meet, which will be the Stanley Park One-Day Manhunt game, hopefully at the end of the month.

Accessible by transit and car, we've been Nerfing it up in SFU Burnaby since September, 2007. We've been on hiatus for winter and starting it up again for Spring/Summer. Our focus is towards urban mid-range fighting with more cover and varied terrain; therefore Simon Fraser University is an excellent place to war, with the Academic Quadrangle providing both cover and open areas for play. If you've watched Battlestar Galactica, you'll recognize the location immediately.

We will be following the draft NUVO rules at the bottom of this post.

Rules
_____

Nerfers United Vancouver Organization (Nouveau), melee-adopted abridged SoCal rules

Guns:
- No banned guns.
- However, if any guns are brought which are considered overpowered by majority vote or myself, they will be disallowed.
- Titans, LBBs, 4Bs, et cetera, must be shotgun-barreled. No single-barreled high-powered air tank guns.
- Guns do not count as melee weapons. Barrel Tapping is allowed (just no beatdowns please).

Projectiles:
- All weighted projectiles (darts) must have a tip that completely covers the weight used. Exposed weights are not to be fired. If you come across a dart that is missing its tip, throw it away at your own discretion.
- No projectiles with sharpened tips.

Shields:
- Shields are permitted only for players who are equipped with small arms (and not primaries) and melee weapons. They must be within a reasonable size, no wider and longer than the width of your shoulder blades. They do not count as melee weapons.

Melee:
- All melee weapons must be made of foam or plastic, and must not have any sharp edges. Any wooden or metal melee weapons will not be used. No exceptions.
- A melee weapon is any non-projectile that can be equipped that prevents you from holding another weapon in the same hand excluding shields. Boxing gloves, Hulk Hands, etc., are considered melee weapons.

Eye Protection:
- Mandatory, no exceptions. Shades, sunglasses, goggles, visors, all work fine. Please do not wear prescription eyewear as eyepro. There is a chance that it may be knocked off your head or nicked by a dart. NUVO is not responsible for any damages or injuries caused by one's failure to comply with wearing proper eye protection.

Hits:
- If someone calls a hit on you, you take it like a man, unless you clearly saw it go past you. If this is the case, then calmly explain it and resume play.
- A hit is deemed as a shot or strike that hits any part of the player's body.
- A shot that 'hits' is deemed as a dart that VISIBLY changes direction. If you watch the dart nick a person's shirt, hair etc. and continue travel in a reasonably straight path, it is considered a "graze" and does not constitute a hit.
- No body armor.
- A weapon must be used to 'hit' another player. No hand-tagging to take another player out. Use a melee weapon or gun.
- Shots to equipped weapons (those held in a player's hands) are not considered hits. However, shots to unequipped weapons (those held in a sling, holstered, etc.) are considered hits. This means blocking only with the weapons you are currently holding is allowed.
- Shields do not count as melee weapons. However, melee weapons can be used to block.
- When you are hit, hold your gun up in the air, say that you are out out loud. Asking people if they are in or not takes too long and can mess people up. Make it OBVIOUS that you are out. If you are caught faking being out, you'll be asked to sit out the rest of the round. If it happens again, you'll be asked to leave.
- Once you are out, you must count out loud to a predetermined number and/or move to a spawn point, depending on the game type. You must count from the moment you were hit. You may omit the first ten seconds if you wish, but the last three seconds must be counted out loud.
- When it's time to come back in (when that is depends on the game type) yell "I'm in" loudly. Saying it quietly so opponents can't hear is considered faking being in or out.
- Players have a set number of lives/respawns depending on the type of game. Please keep track of how many lives you have left. If you are caught respawning extra times, you will be asked to sit out of the game once before you will be asked to leave.

Spawn points:
- These will be placed on either ends of the playing area. They will not be near the flags during Capture the Flag, and during King of the Hill the defending team will spawn on the top of the hill.

Games:

Deathmatch
- Played with multiple teams, or free-for-all.
- Number of lives varies, usually 3-5.
- When you're hit, you count to a predetermined number (usually 15). Last 3 numbers are counted out loud so others can hear you, and then "I'm in" is called.
- While hit, you can walk around and pick up darts so long as your gun remains visibly in the air.

Capture the Flag
- Played with two teams
- Unlimited lives.
- To win, both teams' flags must be at your home base.
- If you are told you are hit while running with the flag, believe it and drop the flag immediately.
- No throwing the flag. Hand-offs are acceptable, but no throwing the flag is permitted.
- When hit, count to twenty and head towards a predetermined and marked spawn point which is NOT directly next to (but usually nearby) your own flag. If you get back before you finish counting, wait at the point until you are done and then call "I'm in". If you finish before you get back, you are still not in until you have touched the point and then called in.
- Both teams must know where both flags are at the beginning of the game. If the flag is down, it may or may not remain there. If the team who is guarding the downed flag chooses to, they may move it back to its original location, or elect to leave it where it is. No announcement need be made for this, but keep in mind that both flags must be at the ORIGINAL flag location to win.

Freeze Tag
- Played with two or more teams.
- Unlimited lives.
- To win, each team must eliminate the opposing team(s) by freezing all members of the opposition at once.
- Once you are hit, you are frozen. This means you are stuck in place and cannot walk around. You must sit down or crouch.
- To respawn, a teammate must 'tag' a frozen player with his/her hand. You have respawned the moment a teammate's hand makes contact with you.
- Puppy-guarding frozen players is forbidden. You must stay at least 5 feet away from a frozen player. Anything closer counts as puppy-guarding.

King of the Hill
- Played with two teams
- Unlimited lives.
- To win, the Attacking team must have one member successfully reach the flag without being hit. The Defending team must successfully defend the hill for a set amount of time.
- When you're hit, members of the Attacking team must respawn at a respawn point. Members of the Defending team must count to 20 seconds before respawning at the top of the Hill.

GUYS WTF SRSLY.

One week before our first Official war, and nobody in Vancouver is on the 'Haven anymore...

We've got at least 12 people showing up, who knows how many Galeburn will show up with this time. But guaranteed, we'll have at least 12.

Whoa was it hot for our June war! July's war is only two weeks away! I still can't believe there are no Vancouver nerfers on Nerfhaven! BUT I WON'T GIVE UP! We had 6v6 Freeze Tag indoors, and it was AWESOME! We had a cameraman filming and soon we will have our own war videos! This is a Nerf War unlike any other! This is Tactical Espionage Acti- I mean, Urban Warfare!

That dumbass itsgua is Frank, by the way. ;)

Kid Flash: For some fucking reason the only person registered in NerfHaven that is anywhere near involved with NUVO is myself (and itsuga before he got banned for necro and poor grammar and posts like the above).

Anyways, I bump the thread hoping to get some more attendees from the site, for those Vancouver residents who might want to attend, but the Facebook page is more high-traffic. We've got maybe 25 attendees out of 38 members (not all at once, the highest attendance at one war we've had was 18 participants). And it wasn't seven times in a row either.

ANYWAYS.

I'm bumping this thread, we've got a war on the 16th. Check the facebook page for deets.

We're starting up our 2009 activities again. Join the Facebook group and get the updates there. I haven't checked NerfHaven in a while, because we were on winter hiatus and a lack of interest from users here on NH has led me to forget about NerfHaven for the most part.

I'll be sending you a PM, as for this bump I hope more Vancouverites notice this thread. I won't be bumping again unless there's *gasp* replies...

I'm sure you are already aware, but I figured I should make sure you are planning something to coincide with the Season Of Foam's trip through the continent? They hit Vancouver on Tuesday, July 21st, the day after our big Seattle war. Oh! And if any of you guys want to come down to that, let us know in the war thread. We would love to have you!

I'll talk to the core NUVO peeps about it, but July 21st eh... I'll take a peek at the SOF's plans and plan something to coincide with their visit =D I'd love to make it down for the Seattle war but I'll have to see.

When will the latest war be in the season? If there are some in september or october I might be able to make one. I try to visit my friend at Emily Carr at least once a year.

Crooked: Did you see that guy who singled a doomsayer?

Pearson: Why would you single a doomsayer? Thats like taking a Ferarri and putting family seating in it.

Let me know when you're planning to come down, I imagine we could go into October at the latest.
