I have no other barrel material available, so I have turned to crayola markers. I use the washable kind so does that matter, because I am only getting about half an inch of usable barrel. I can't find any writeups using the search function and I'm really troubled. How do you guys get your crayola's so long? In the pictures they look like a whole marker. Do you take them or what?

I'm not sure what you mean. Are you cutting off the marker above the internal fins? If so, that's the problem ....those fins help hold in the darts, and people use then because of the fins.

By "functional barrel" I'm guessing you're typing in reference to the barrel that doesn't have the flanges inside (that holds the ink-sponge) in place. Depending on what blaster you're using, you may wish to leave them in. My BBB gets better range with a nested Crayola barrel with the flanges left in that the same BBB with 1/2cpvc. If the blaster in question is a tank/bladder-based, (At3k or RF20, for example) then the best way to remove the flanges was conjured by meiser5 (to the best of my knowledge) as shown in his write-up here:

The other option, and probably the best, to is buy some PETG tubing from OMC; sure it'll take a couple days longer to reach you than if you drove to a retail outlet for markers, but it'll be much less expensive. (10-pack of Crayola markers being just shy of $3 for 10 barrels, or 4 barrels for $0.50 from a foot of PETG.) Take the advice of someone who's invested too much in Crayola markers for barrel material.

I hate to say this Twitch, but typically you're supposed to glue them on so the little ridged section act as the back of the barrel, not the front.

Bonzipon, you keep saying you can't find things. In my opinion you're not looking hard enough.
If you live in the middle of nowhere that has no plumbing supply stores just make a big order through mcmaster-carr.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

Carbon and Twitch: I don't know if it makes a difference, well I guess it does, but in the washables markers that I'm trying to do this with I'm pretty sure that it doesn't have flanges but sharp long pieces of plastic that looks nothing like the pictures you have provided Twitch. When I try to put my darts in, they just scrunch up a little. . From the link to that mod I can't tell what kind of innards are in the marker used. Should I drill them out or try a different type of marker?

CaptainSlug: Seriously, Flin Flon has no stores. Our Wal-Mart is the only store that carries NERF guns, our Home Hardware only just got in one bag of FBR because I made a special order (after they rejected me the first time because my dad wasn't with me...) and they only carry the giant black PVC commonly used for potato guns.

If you made a special order for FBR couldn't you just make another for cpvc and all the other materials you need?

they don't carry that type of PVC. They only carry the black stuff. I understand your thinking, but, with the FBR they only ordered it because they already carried it, just in differents sizes, whereas with PVC it would be ordering in a whole new product.

I really dont see what the problem is. Even if you cant buy barrel material at you local stores, you could always just get some OMC petg, or ask one of the members on the haven to pick you up some materials. So in conclusion you have every barrel material available to you.

The thing is my parents are sketchy about internet purchases because they're afraid of getting scammed. Well, if I can talk them into letting me make a purchase, then I will definetely buy either PETG PVC or copper. Which would you suggest for mega stefans (5/8" variety) ?

I dont think megas will fit into OMC petg. I would go with the PVC.

Not into OMC's PETG, but there's 5/8" PETG being sold in some places and 1/2" PVC fits Megas nicely. I wouldn't suggest using copper since it's very tight on Megas and extremely loose on Micros.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. A good nerf gun is like a good woman. It shouldn't require extra lubrication.
