Weren't expecting that now were you?

Okay, I know. I know. It's ugly. It looks like a decapitated monkey. I don't care. Well I do, but please don't make that the focus of this thread.

Anyways, ^that^ is Ebrethil (or Master in the Ancient language according to the Inheritance Trilogy (wow I'm such a nerd I actually read books)). Yeah, I like it too. It's taken three magstrikes to get it to work right, and god knows how much time and money. I've been attempting to finish this for almost two months now.

A two-way brass pushbutton valve is used, as in Bob II, for the magstrike trigger.

You might have noticed that in the pictures the Crossbows internals aren't there. Don't worry, I have them. I'm just attaching the coupler right now. The Magstrike's bladder is lined with bicycle inner tubing, and can shoot off 2-3 clips about 40'. It's been windy, so it might have hurt or helped the range. Either way I plan to mod the clips soon, so I should get a little more distance. I also plan to do the piston mod to this; I'd be happy with 60'. I'll get updated pictures when it's completely done, and will try to take some clearer ones.

I know this probably won't fit alot of peoples style of play, but I'm always bent on having an insane amount of firepower.

So, Questions? Comments? Enjoy.

-OfAll'

PS, sorry for the blurry photos. I really need to get myself a tripod (it's too big to put under the light I use for write-ups)

PPS, Keef, this is what I was reffering to in BitchX.

Dear god man. That's quite a few magstrikes you went through. But still, that's pretty cool. Although the tank location is a bit weird.

If you accidentally clock somebody with a doubleshot, then you're more liable to break the doubleshot than you are to cause serious injury.

PM me if selling a NIB or LNNB LnL.

Sorry I thought it was self explainatory. Basically the two-way pushbutton valve is the trigger. The same on as in Bob II. The pump, obviously, pumps and compresses air. The magstrike shoots a clip, and the Crossbow has a cocking handle and a trigger which allows it to shoot.

/Patronization.

Sorry, got a little carried away.

I don't get why you needed to connect everything. Why didn't you just use duct tape and wrap it around the 2 guns?

So basically you're just spearing air tubes through the crossbow and sticking them together to make a very complicated mod when you could just use duct tape?

Um, no. You couldn't use ductape to do this. I mean you could, but it would fall off. I am spearing them through, as you would say, but because some of the tubes have to go inside the Crossbow (again, don't have to, but makes it more efficient). It is a complicated mod, atleast I think so.

I don't really know what you're trying to say. I had to completely relocate parts of the Magstrike.... Whatever. If you still don't get it take another shot.

Not the cleanest thing ever and it is kind of bulky, but I do believe I have to commend you for using screws to hold them together. Make sure you use lock washers of some kind with them and that thing will last for ages.

I would also recommend you consider cleaning of the tubing arrangement a bit so you don't snag them on something while running around. Use a 90-degree fitting or adapter on the left side of the trigger valve in particular.

Thank you. What exactly do you mean by "lock washers"?

As for the tubing on the left, I plan to clean that up (and on the right, it gets in the way of the Magstrike's trigger sometimes). Does mcmaster sell 90-degree fittings that work with this valve (I supposed I could just check...)?

Captain, yes, I did. But I had already hacked it up a good deal before it was finished, so I might as well have made use of it. And don't worry, if all turns out as planned I should be able to get a sweet paintjob.

Lock washers^

They make sure those nuts stay put

You can also get them built right into the nut

Hahaha, you can build them into the nut!

Ofall- Its awesome. I love how you combined both of them. Personally, I would of attached the airtank under the Crossbow's stock, but I wouldn't do this. Great way of doing it, except for the vinyl. It looks really long :P

I saw it first in the Crossbow picture thread, and thought you did a Arachnophobia gig or something. :)

Excellent work as always! Love how it was put together.

I particularly like the Magstrike's trigger location. The excess tubing's everone's been complaining about isn't a huge deal unless you play in heavily wooded areas. But I'm sure if you really want to, cleaning that up won't be much of a problem.

Thanks Keef. I was thinking of putting it under there too when I first thought about it, but when I measured it would have to stick farther back than the end of the stock to allow adequate hand room. I loved the way the stock looked too; if I was going to hack it up I promised myself I would atleast keep that intact. As for the vinyl, I'm working on shortening it. I need to get some 90-degree elbows for the MS trigger, and then the vinyl will be gone.

Hah, while I was making this and kept having it screw up, I was thinking of just using the bladder and the MS shell to make Arachnaphobia II on my Crossbow :P.

Thanks! It took alomst a week for me to think of the "best" way to put all the parts on there.

As for the trigger location, it seemed like the most logicat place. When I was using the stock valve setup, I had the trigger where my third finger would be on the handle, but when I had to abandon it for the pushbutton valve, it seemed like the best.

Yeah, I don't really run around in the woods alot (while nerfing), and not alot this time of year since it's <20 degrees most of the time. I do plan on cleaning up the vinyl regardless, just to make it more efficient and better looking (I really need to make up for the hackage). On a side note I finally made a turreted NF :P...

Thanks everyone!

That's awesome. Also, an interesting combination, a crossbow AND a magstrike. Also, may I ask where you got that crossbow? I've always wanted one. Anyways, I really like it good job.

What exactly do you mean by "lock washers"?

Lock washers prevent screws and hex nuts from backing out (loosening) under vibration. You can also use hex nuts that have a built in nylon locking insert which accomplish the same thing.

Does mcmaster sell 90-degree fittings that work with this valve (I supposed I could just check...)?

Most plumbing or building supply stores carry them too. You will need to use teflon tape on the threads of the male end.

When I first saw this I thought two things: that's awesome and what the hell? It looks kinda awkward, and, correct me if I'm wrong, but you just made an air-powered X-bow??? If so: "Very nice, How much?"-Borat

Jesus christ man, how the hell am I supposed to come back from such an intelligent comment like that?

Okay. Putting the two guns together doesn't in essence make either of them better, it makes it more effective in a war (which is debatable, but I think I'll be able to use it). If I just had a Crossbow, I would have one shot (or two) before I was out. If I just had a magstrike I would have extremely poor range for outdoor wars. I DID THIS SO I COULD COUNTER A FUCKING RUSH.

And I supposed you could just glue a stock-shelled magstrike to the side of this, but that would be extremely stupid as the trigger location and ease of use would be almost nill.

Chili: I got it as a present last year, when they still had a couple in eBay stores. Thanks BTW, I think it'll work well.

Captainslug: Thank you. I'll order one of those elbows tonight, I don't really have any time during the week to go shopping.

Thanks everyone!

Edit: I have encountered more problems with this gun. If I can't fix it, I'm going to just take it apart (and do serious body work) and integrate something else. Pisses me off, but I see no other alternative.
