When i build zero talent's gun, it sometimes works very,very well. other times, the barrel flies off when i turn the valve. i have wrapped the 1/2 inch barrel in tape to secure it in the barrel, but i think this may be causing the air to push the barrel out. i didn't build the breach. Anyone know what i should do to secure the barrel? i cant glue it in because it needs to be removed to be reloaded. im also using the normal velchro darts. are these the right size?

Tape won't hold it, use PVC solvent.

He already said he can't glue it. I'd put PVC cement on the end of the barrel but don't put it in the coupler. Wait for the glue to dry, then sand it a bit to smooth it of. It should have a tighter fit. If it is too tight, sand it more. If it is too loose, repeat the process. If neither is true, I think you're smart enough to know what to do.

Improve your post quality. Capitalization, proper use of punctuation, and so on.

Most homemades fire stefans because those can utilize longer barrel lengths. Velcro taggers cannot.
If your homemade is extremely powerful you may want to glue a short section of pipe into the ball valve, then glue a coupler onto that short section of pipe. The ball valve may not have an adequate hold on the pipe you're using as a barrel without glue, but a coupler probably will.

I beg to differ. In 1/2" PVC, a tagger can use a long barrel.

I'm trying to comprehend why the barrel works sometimes and, other times, it flies off upon firing.
Can you describe in more detail how your gun works? Pictures (even a drawing) will help.

I've got the feeling that we are just not understanding your build. You're using a 1/2" barrel, but you did not make the breech, but you need to remove the barrel to load it.

If the barrel is loose enough that you can remove it by hand, it's not surprising that it occasionally flies off. Air homemades can use a great deal of pressure, and if it requires less pressure to blow off the barrel than to fire the dart, it will.

You may want to think about using a screw-on fitting for your barrel. Yes, it's a lot slower than a slip fitting, but it also won't blow off.

I would suggest to use more tape. Yesterday, I bought some tape at Home Depot. It is a type of electrical tape that is slip resistant on the outside.

Yea, that's what I've decided to do. I've secured the barrel, and i dip the tip of the dart in water to keep it smooth. It now works very well.
