I was wondering, when you spray paint a nerf gun, does what does the texture feel like? I was hoping that it would be a smooth texture but is it like normal paint where it feels rough. And one more thing, would spray paint be the best choice? or would say car paint be better for a smooth and shinyish texture? Thanks.

i use spray paint... The cheap 98 cent cans from walmart. It leaves a nice smooth coat. I only use it because its cheap though. They dont have many colors. Im just going to guess and say car paint is pretty expensive though...

The problem with spray paint is that it usually ends up chipping or scraping off. Vinyl dye is much better, since it actually changes the color of the plastic, instead of just laying on top of it.

I see, so how much would Vinyl Dye cost? Does it come in a spray can?

Thanks.

It depends on how you spray the paint. If you do nice even coats then it will be smooth. If you just spray wildly then it will be not so smooth.

I've never used spray paint, but like Carbon said, Vinyl dye works well.

I painted my Powerclip two years ago with normal plastic spray paint and it's stayed on fairly well, even through 95° weather and being shot several times. You just have to put on a few good coats. I'm sure vinyl dye would stay on better but it's probably much more expensive. You can get a can of good quality spraypaint made for plastic (like Krylon Fusion) for about $5 at a hardware store.

As for the texture, spraypaint isn't like the kind of paint you'd put on a house. It's smooth and feels a lot like plastic or metal, at least in my experience. It's also dependent on how evenly you coat the gun like someone else said, but generally if you put a few light coats on (light enough that the paint won't start to drip and roll off the gun) it feels almost like the stock plastic.

Thats the one I use, but it rubs off too easily. Thats the only bad thing about it. I'll try the vinyl dye when I get the money.

I use Rust-Oleum direct to plastic paint. Most paint I've found is kind of sticky, even when dry, but this feels just like part of the gun. I luuuuuuuuurrve it. And mudkips.

BTW, it comes in textured and stuff too for like 4$ a can.

Seriously guys, NOTHING comes close to vinyl dye.

You just have to put on a few good coats. I'm sure vinyl dye would stay on better but it's probably much more expensive.

It's the same price as regular spray paint. But you can usually only find it at automotive supply stores.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?
