During my stay here I've seen threads frequently pop up which are along the lines of: "What should my first mod be?", "New to modding", or "im a noob and ned halp." Such questions could be answered by searching, but many new members find that too difficult to comprehend.

No offence to those of you who have made such threads (unless you're like the last one); we were all new at one point, and a good portion of us probably made threads such as these. Nevertheless it is very annoying (atleast to me, and I assume to other more experienced member aswell) to have such threads created on a regular basis. They asked question which could be answer in one (this) thread, and push other more pertinent topics off the home page or first forum page (which is less of a concern).

The idea of this thread is to answer the question "What should my first mod be?" I will post what I think is the general consensus and other members feel free to post your thoughts and I will edit them in.

Let's get started.

The cheapest, most readily available, and easiest "starter" gun to mod is the Nitefinder (or Disk Shot, which is the NF in a different, more expensive shell). They are $7 give or take depending on your location and sales tax. This will be the most frequently suggested gun to mod if you are new. Before atempting to modify this (or any) blaster, please refer to the Nerfhaven Modification Directory.

On the other hand, most will agree the Longshot is the most difficult gun to modify (although I know a bunch deny the difficulty of modifying this blaster, it is still not a great first gun to mod, mainly due to crucial part placement, and abundance of parts). I would suggest getting a few mods under your belt before modifying the Longshot, but if you're really set on doing it early in your career check out this thread (and pay attention to the first sention in huge letters).

If you have any suggestions on how to make this thread more useful, or other things you think I should add feel free to post. I know if this gets stickied it'll make the front page of the Modfication Section smaller, but it will also, hopefully, help to minimize the number of useless threads.

On the otherhand, if an admin/mod decides this is an unnecessary thread, feel free to delete it.

If people are too lazy to read the pinned threads in the mods forum what makes you think they're going to read this?

Well if it's one of the first things you see in the forum that reads "READ THIS BEFORE POSTING (or you will be banned)", they might pay attention...?

You definitely make a good point but I'm going to have to agree with NerfMonkey. As soon as this post if off the "Latest Posts," no one who is new will probably read it (even if it does get stickied). Ignorance is the basis of so many peoples' lives that it's sickening. If people were going to read this after say a week or so, it'll be because it was a "hot topic" and someone else wanted to read/write a reply. Also, in a perfect world, the Code of Conduct would be respected, used and read.

I respect that idea, OfAll. It's just sad that it's a shout in the open. One day though. We just got to keep at it.

Yeah, I guess you guys are right. If they don't even bother searching they probably won't bother reading stickies.

Feel free to delete this.

Great post ofall, I think that the NF is a damn good first mod. Another great start is the dtb. There arent really many parts to it and even if you have never touched a nerf gun before you should know how to put it back together. If the mods put some links to some of the topics like this in the CoC mabye more people wouldnt ask "what should I mod first". I do not think that this topic should be deleted. I just think that it should be more open to the eyes of newbs.

First Mods:

Age 12: NF (RIP Onie. You sucked)

Age 13: CrossFire (RIP Johnnycakes, dropped out of a tall window)

Age 14: NF (RIP Lil Elvis, my friend ripped the plunger out)

Age 15: NF (With NiteVision Integration)

My point being that 2 out of those 3 NFs were purchased from a GoodWill store for 3$. This says something about the general availability of the gun. Also, I'd suggest a CrossFire before a DTB, simply because the steps needed to modify it are simple, and because I have found that single-barreled guns are easier (I have helped with others).

I think this thread may be something useful, but only if set up and constructed in a precise way and placed in the right place.

I feel that this thread is a pretty good idea. I know a lot of new members aren't going to read it once it becomes old, but there are a few out there that read the things they should before they post and this will help them. I spent my validation time looking at every pinned thread and many other threads and it gave me a pretty good feel for this site.

Also, I think you ought to suggest an easy mod for air powered guns like the Airtech 2000. But since their retail store days are coming to a close, you might want to use a different example.

I feel really stupid now  you post this hoping to help newbs like me, and then I go posting a thread that sounds like it should go under the useless pile. I did look up the barrel modding basics sticky, but that one is a little hard to fallow.....

Toilet paper is for your ass, not your nerf gun.
Try craft foam if you want to add cushioning to the handle.

Of course. My current arsenal consists of my NiteVisionFinder, and my Crossfire, Paco.

There's not really enough information in the first post to warrant a sticky.

However a mirror of this page: http://www.nerfhq.co...ds_and_Concepts
Plus this page: http://www.nerfhq.co...?title=Hardware
in one post as a sticky would be nice.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?
