This was the first Nerf gun I've ever owned. I finally took the time to dig through the mounds of garbage in my garage to go find it again (Couldn't find my SM5K though). It's an arrow shooting springer (But have no ammo). It's dirty and faded as hell but it still works. Here's a few pictures.

Here's a few interesting things about it:

The bow arms fold in.
The plunger can rotate.
The plunger locks in at many locations like the +bow. So it can be set to fire weak or strong.
The whole gun jerks forward when shooting it at full strength.


So has anybody seen or heard of this gun before? Seems like it has some great mod potential because it's compact and still rather powerful. But I won't be modding it if it's some kind of a rare collectors item.

Looks like a gun with a lot of potential. If it were mine, I would take off the "crossbow arms", and see if I could remove the hole plunger handle. If so, I'd build some extra frame up the front of the gun, and make a shotgun slide for it. (although this would obviously work in reverse) Finally, I'd put a nice barrel on there that would meet up with the front of the shotgun slide area, and put a few supports between the two areas.

Throw a nice paint job on there, and you'd have a really nice looking gun with a great shape, that would probably be very comfortable. By the sounds of things (i.e. "gun jerks forward") it has a good deal of power, so it would probably also be very effective.

Exactly the mod I was thinking of. But I'm afraid to mod it or even open it up to clean it because I've never seen the gun before. Maybe Orange will want it for part of his collection

EDIT: I lied. It's been years since I've looked at a picture of either but I have seen a picture of this gun before.

I believe that's the Just Toys Crossbow; you might be able to find it on [url="http://"http://www.nerfpalace.i8.com"]Viper's Nerf page[/url]. Orange might have it on his page too, but I'm not sure.

I couldn't find a picture of mine on either site. ItalionStallion links to a picture of a "just toys crossbow" in his thread. But it is extremely different from the one I have. Here's the link:

It kinda sucks. I used to have one.

Though I think you could do a nice integration if you put the pump where the yellow barrel is and put the tank in the main part.

oodalumps- I think you could greatly improve this by cutting off the bow parts. These must be slowing the plunger down quite a bit.

Looks a bit gay and inefficient. I'd rather just make +bow or spend more money to get a crossbow with a more comfortable and efficient shell.

See what you can do with it though.

A collector might pay a bit to get one of these.

Yeah if I'm going to mod it, that whole construction on the front is going away. I'll replace it with a key chain ring or something. If it's possible I'll try to relocate the plunger to the back and put a barrel on the front where the plunger used to be.

This gun is interesting, especially the backwards plunger. If it jerks when fired, maybe you should give it an extremely long PETG barrel and make a bi-pod so you can use it for long range ownage.

Also what is interesting about it is the fact that it was released before the NERF crossbow, weird huh?

Here's a fun update. I got a message from orange saying he isn't interested. So I popped the gun open and beheld the internals.

Here's all the stuff in it.



Look at the massive spring! (next to NF for comparison)



The plunger tube fits perfectly inside of 1" PVC couplers.






So who has some ideas for this gun?

That spring looks a little worse for wear...but you'll probably have to hit up someplace like McMaster to find a suitable replacement. The plunger seal looks like it may clean up, though. You could probably reduce a bit of that extra barrel on top to reduce dead space.

Since the catch is just on a pivot, you may want to reinforce that pivot point

I'm amused that the general design bears more than a little resemblance to a SNAP-4/4M.

Improve the seal, rebarrel it, minimize the plunger rod (handle). i'd keep it bullpup, though.

Looks like you'll have to replace that rusty spring, and definitely clean it up. A paint-job wouldn't hurt either. I'm exited to see what you do with this, good luck!

EDIT: As for mods, maybe you should add a bi-pod for stability, and a breech-loading barrel.

That gun is a springer, note the huge spring. So he doesn't "pump" it he "cocks" it.

Not sure if this should be in a new thread / different forum now. But I did some quick mods with some leftover brass I has laying around. Sanded the rust off the spring and cleaned the dirt out of the gun. Ranges are around 40-50'

Reinforced the end of the plunger rod with some 19/32 brass. (drilled a hole in it later to use with a key-chain ring)



Looks like the foam in the front was for cushioning the impact. I added some electrical tape over the crusty old seal.



Then I made a quick nested barrel out of 1.5" of 17/31 and 6" of 9/16 brass. Stuck it in the old barrel with electrical tape after removing the AR.

Looks nice. The ranges seem really shitty though, but I guess that's to be expected from such an old disgusting gun. My old Bow 'n Arrow never hit more than 60' and I can only assume it was because of all the garbage inside the plunger tube.

EDIT: You should try to flip the plunger tube around in there so you cock it from the back and then relocate the barrel so it's right in front of the plunger tube. You'd get better ranges that way but it would be a pain and I don't know if you could do it and keep the catch mech in the same place.

You could always try reinforcing it and putting in a new spring. I think it has potential. Don't you dare paint it though. Keep the shell as stock looking as possible. It's like the reject grand-daddy of the crossbow that some how got lost in a veteran's home. You could always try bungies too. I haven't the foggiest how you could pull that off though.
