Well, whilst at my sister's wedding I was fortunate to drive my now brother in law's relatively new Mazda RX8. I got to drive it from the church to my sister's apartment to get my brothers tux shirt, then to the car wash, and then back to the church. Six speed manual dual clutch plates... OMFG I can't wait until I'm back down in NC!

Here come the picts!

I couldn't tell, Shrimpy, but do you have a limited-slip diff (posi)? OR was that a one-leg burnout?

I was going to tell you "throw some Flowmasters on that thang! The tire squeal is louder than your exhaust!" But it really is up to you. Some people get tired of that loud hotrod sound, and they cannot sneak around the neighborhood without everyone hearing you coming one block away. I personally love it.

Nice car, aetherguy801. But Shrimpy's Fairlane pegs the coolness meter.

One of my cars is one of the sweetest 280z's you've ever seen. I have a turbo charged and my brother has a naturally aspirated.
The engine is mostly stock, but it does have headers to a straight pipe (creating that beautiful "hotrod" sound) and quite a bit stripped out (this ain't no luxury car). The engine is all chromed out with a few black (fuel injector rail) parts and the hoses/wires/tubing are red. The paintjob is rio red and beautiful (cost more than the car originally did...hahaha).

Firstly, congrats to your sister. Surprised no one else has said that...

Also, cool car; I have a Merkur XR4Ti. She's a little old, but she's a beauty...and has a turbocharger and all the options (including heated seats).

She purrs like a tiger, too.

It does have posi rear. I was going to put a new set of mufflers on it, but the stock exhaust is pretty small. So I ordered a set of headers and I'm going to put together my own custom 3 in exhaust.

Seoulman too bad you don't have a picture of the "sweetest ride" I've ever seen. Also a 280z will never give you a "hotrod" or "muscle car" sound unless you've swapped in a V8. Maybe it'll give you a "ricer sound" or a "lawn mower" sound if you threw on a fart can.

Alright, I never said it was the "sweetest ride" you've ever seen, just the sweetest 280Z. Unless you've been to the annual Z-car show in California, it's extremely unlikely you've seen a better looking 280Z. No, I definitely didn't swap in a V8, though it was (and kind of still is) a childhood dream of mine to put a chevy V8 in a 240Z. The biggest problem with the older (70's) Z-cars is that they're completely front heavy. Putting a V8 in it actually helps the balance significantly because they are shorter in length than the inline sixes they run, so the engine sits farther back toward the center of the car. As far as the sound goes, it is a pretty throaty sound and sounds nothing like a "rice-burner" or a "lawn mower." It has absolutely no muffler/catalytic convertor and is quite loud. The only reason it passes emissions is that it is considered a "Classic Car" and doesn't have to pass emissions. All my pics of it were taken back when I was in high school (my dad and I finally got it ready for my senior car show after having to rebuild the engine due to a bad/watery tank of gas) with a 35mm camera. I don't have any digital copies, but I'll see about getting some. Maybe I can even get a soundbite, but it's currently out of state parked in a garage. I do eventually plan on putting in an intercooler and adjustable wastegate (it already has much larger than stock fuel injectors and a new computer). I'm not sure how much boost it runs because the gauge is in mmhg instead of psi and I'm not sure how accurate the gauge is. Anyway, bottom line, my car is definitely not some "rice-burner." I have and always will HATE erector set spoilers and coffee can mufflers! It is a classic sports car!

Congrats to your sister! Spring is a lovely time to get married.

As for cars...

My dad recently got a Datsun 280Z. It's an incredible car! Not much has been done to it yet, but we've got plans. As far as how it sounds, it definitely does not sound like your average japanese sports car. The straight-6 engine gives it a great, deep sound.

As for my car, I drive a 1986 Toyota Corolla. It's definitely not your cutting-edge sports car, but it's a classic and iconic car from Japan.

EDIT: Decided to post up some photos:

Here's the 280Z from about a year ago

I don't know how to put this, but I'm kind of a big deal. I have many leather-bound books. My apartment smells of rich mahogany.

All Anchorman jokes aside, if we're posting pictures of our cars I suppose I should post some of my new baby. I call her Lola.

Not the least bit impressive and only for my work commute (which is only 3 miles away). Completely electric so it's only one penny per mile.
Doesn't require insurance, license, inspection, or registration and it only cost $800 shipped.

When I'm 17-18, my dad is selling me his beauty.

Posted Image

From 1998, but he takes great care of it. It looks new. He just fixed the lights and the mirrors. I think he got new ones. Its engines a 6. Barely 60,000 miles as of now. By the time I'm ready for it, he'll sell it for $1000 to 2500 depending on my car insurance, and whether I pay for it all, or I buy car, they split insurance.

Groove, I don't really like the Passat... An ugly grill and hood and everything (the front I mean). I love the interior though.

Edit:
Fixed picture. No I didn't; lets try again.
BTW- Its a Audi A4 1998 (or 96'? I forget :P)

Porsche 928

Been wanting one of those for a while, particularly after seeing a 929 for sale in my neighborhood. That or a 944.
Just can't justify it to myself right now. And if I had one there would be ALL kinds of temptation to go crazy tweaking it at the behest of my coworkers. My boss in particular because he has a rat-rodded 914.

If you were to get a 944 you might as well get a Lotus Esprit. They are both wedges, and if it was the color of this 928 then it would be a wedge of cheese. :P

It's a '76.

As far as mufflers go, I sit on both sides of the fence.

Yes, I do dislike fast and furious kids driving around with unbolted mufflers thinking they're all bad-ass with their 10 foot spoilers and neon lights.

But yes, I do have an HKS exhaust installed on my Corolla (and yes, it is a japanese car). I do have to say that it does make a difference on the track. I have noticed that the throttle response has increased significantly as well as overall power.

My car is quite loud now, and I have mixed feelings about it. I do like the sound, but I am sometimes self-conscious about other people thinking I'm just another wanna-be asshole when I drive by.

As far as people that really hate mufflers. Let me just show you a comparison:

Posted Image

This is what I was working with before.

Posted Image

This is what I've got on there now. Yes it's big and noisy, but HUGE difference in performance.

You have officially reversed the "Savings go towards house deposit, not car" debate I constantly have in my head.
I was thinking, make repayments, get ahead, buy a VW on redraw. Oh well.
As for me, you don't even want to know what I drive. No, seriously. But I call it Raoul.
