Okay, here's the deal. I saw some months ago a thread about how a user made some armor for nerf wars with cardboard. I know people have issues with using shields for wars and stuff, so I was curious to know if the armor is allowed in wars. I searched for the topic and looked at the nerfing etiquette thread, but found no information.

The reason I'm curious is because I made some armor with cardboard and duct tape, consisting of a helmet, gloves, and a vest with flaps on either side to lightly protect lower areas, but also for looks. It's supposed to resemble knight armor somewhat. This was for a halloween costume, mind you. I would like to take some pictures soon and post a thread of the armor.

So now I ask, is the armor allowed? I would think it isn't because it's like a full-body sheild, not to mention the fact that it would make you look like a coward. I apologize if someone has asked/discussed this before.

If anyone showed up to any organized war I was attending wearing cardboard armor, I'd make it a personal point for the rest of the day to shoot unprotected areas on that person's body just so they could feel it. Just being honest, here.

I personally don't see the point in wearing armor. As if it wasn't awkward enough for onlookers to see a bunch of guys running around with modified Nerf blasters shouting and chasing one another, the thought of a cardboard version of Robocop waddling about trying to outrun a bunch of kids is amusing to say the least.

To answer your question, I don't think it'd be forbidden, but if you want to hulk around and sweat in a strange cardboard exoskeleton while everyone else (including your own teammates) takes aim at you just because they enjoy the sound a stefan makes when it hits the cardboard, and people like VACC and I publicly mock you, then...shit, go for it. It's not a question of legality or rules per se, but more so a question of whether or not you enjoy public humiliation.

This is Nerf, why would you even want to wear armor?

You have many good points, I was simply curious about it. I know that it's horribly impractical, but it's fun. Even if I did use the armor at a war, I would be mocked and fired at by everyone. The only use I can see for such armor would be to create a diversion (The armor I have features neon colors) and distract people, while not being totally unprotected so you don't get gunned down and covered with welts.

Using a cardboard vest as armor is very impractical, but I do use a light vest made of duct tape and light cardboard for tactical reasons. For endurance wars, I have pockets for LS clips, other ammo, barrels for my modded watergun, etc. Just think of it as a really cheap customized tactical vest. But other than that, I see don't see a need for armor.

if someone showed up to one of our wars wearing cardboard armor...well... lets say SCUN would come up with some new game types. Games of Pain and woe for the wearer of said armor.

Not to mention that It really wouldn't "protect" you from anything. The average primary can penetrate cardboard, well...anything I mod can at least... so you're just asking to get picked on.

I made a cardboard spartan suit for a Halloween party I went to last year and we actually jokingly nerfed before the party. Not only was the armor cumbersome and hot as hell, but it limits your movement so much that it's not practical by any means.

*edit*
Now, put everyone in cardboard armor and you have yourself a new and ridiculous gametype. We tried it and I definitely kicked Optimus Prime's ass. It's cool...we're still friends, though.

Yes, please, don your cardboard coffin and come to a war.

On a completely unrelated note, I am now taking bets as to whether or not a kid in cardboard armor can be put in an Argentinian Back Breaker.

bobafan, chainmail or larping gear will be treated the same as cardboard armor. You will be shot with high power guns at close range by EVERYONE. Since chain mail actually works, we will aim for your crotch and head. With titans and AT2K's. In the cold(er) weather.

I just made a nylon rope/e-tape/brass ammo holding bracelet that can hold 4 stock darts so I will look EVEN GEEKIER!

I need to post pictures of my armor.
And if I confused anyone, it's all got a healthy coating of duct tape on it, I think that would prevent a stefan from penetrating. In fact, most of the entire suit is duct tape.

Cardboard armor is too impractical. Besides, it could rip or tear depending on how you make it. I would just shoot close range with my titan I modded to shoot micro darts. It can penetrate cardboard. Nice helm Bobafan. It's still as bad as cardboard though.

Ok, can nobody understand that I was kidding?

To nerf, you need to be quick on your feet and be able to see what is going on around you. Armor, particularly metal armour restricts mobility and visibability.

Nerf darts out of the strongest guns don't hurt enough to warrant armour more that a sweatshirt. So using any armour seriously in nerf is just pointless and stupid.

Team America, steel is always better than cardboard.

Now I'm not much for close range melee weaponry, but I think I need to make one of those. A rat flail.

I think cardboard armor is retarded, And making it look like movie/videogame characthers is double retarded, But putting
everyone in replica cardboard armor and making a gametype out of it? Its so perfect its retarded! NOTE: As in, I would love a cardboard armor gametype.

Replying to that and Baghead's comment about new game types based around armor, I tried one with a friend where one person wears "impenetrable" armor, and they are given a pistol or other mediocre gun. Then, the other person (Or people) get better guns and have to try to hit the armored player. But there is a catch, the armored player must be hit in a place without armor, otherwise the shot will not count. There would be slight variations for different circumstances, like if there was one person with armor going up against a team, they would get a good gun, and the armor needs to have some openings. (For example, my armor lacks protection from behind, on the upper arms, and legs.) My friend said it was fun, I liked it too.

I don't see the need for armor of any kind. The only welt I've ever received was from either spoon or vacc's / titan or longshot at Geddon 07.

Sounds like a recreation of the opening scene from Lethal Weapon 4 - only without the flamethrower and Danny Glover doing the half-naked chicken dance!

I wasn't there and spoon hasn't used a nerf gun capable of leaving welts in years.

Any plugged Airtech should be able to penetrate at least a single layer of cardboard and leave welts quite nicely. Hell, I've left dents in hardwood trees and punched through ceiling tile, though it takes about twenty pumps to force enough air into the chamber to do the latter two, and the trigger becomes a bitch to pull at anything past 10.

well, it's assumed that armor is useless in a war, especially with Bags's guns. i have seen it break cardboard and still maintain a good speed (almost breaking a second wall). But if it's a case of dressing up and looking like a fool on purpose, confusing the enemy, like Captain said, in neon bright colors, i might as well run into battle with my Link (zelda) Cosplay ( http://i6.photobucke.../zeldaalex6.jpg ). i'll be sure to make a Hyrulian Shield Manta (currently in pre-production...)
