I've searched.

I've read.

I've done everything, except ask for help to try and solve my problem, this is my last resort.

I spent the afternoon modding my NF. It's one of the purple and yellow generation NFs. I did the basic AR removal. This was done correctly, I still have all the pieces, and I cut out only what was necessary.

After that I scored and hot glued my 3 in long 1/2 CPVC barrel to the appropriate spot. From there, I added 2 wraps of e-tape to the plunger. I didn't leave it running rampant around the edges, but I cut it down, and it's just adding two layers underneath the o-ring only. Along with that I added a small circle of craft foam to the plunger.

Finally, I added e-tape around the plunger tube's connection with the barrel, sealing any air leaks.

I'm firing my stock Tagger Darts, and I'm barely getting 25 ft. I've modded another NF, but that only has the AR Removal, and E-Tape on the Plunger Barrel connection. I also hacked off about an inch at the front, just enough to remove the angled front part of a stock NF. This gone achieves 30 ft, at the same angle.

I'm confused as to what is wrong with this. Are the 40-50 ft ranges reported by others with Stefans only? I really don't know what I've done wrong.

The only clue I've got is that my barrel material may be to tight.

I would post pictures if I could but, the camera is broken, and my cell phone won't send pictures for some odd reason.

Help and opinions would be much appreciated.

Don't take pictures with your cell phone!

It's terrible quality and you might get flamed.

If your barrel is too tight then when the dart comes out it should not go strait, it will fly around in circles and crash land. Test it again to see if it does that, and if not I don't know what to tell you.

If you have to twist your darts in, it's too tight. If you were using stock taggers with PETG, it would still be getting 45-50 anyways.

You did a lot to your NF, now just do a spring replacement.

PS- There is no purple and yellow Nf.

That is correct, purple, blue whatever. My lighting is weird.

I do, in fact, have to screw my darts in...

Looks like I'm going to hunt down brass...

More opinions would be great.

A few questions...

1.)What color pvc was it?
2.)How tight is the plunger head in the tube?

PS xNFx 37: he used cpvc not petg
Edit: i didn't see the last post...

The CPVC is white, but maybe a couple shades darker than PVC white.

I bought 1/2 PVC before this, and my friend and I discovered why that doesn't work. So now we tried this, and still no dice.

Sigh.

1/2 CPVC is typically used for Stock darts right?

Cpvc is generaly used for stefans if i'm not mistaken. The cpvc is an off white ya, PETG is better than brass i believe.

Alright.
1. Slap on a crayola marker.
2. Shave the insides of it first though.
3. Then close all seams with hot glue.
4. After that you are all done and you have a great and cheap nf.

In your posts I didnt see that you closed your barrel with hot glue... that could also be a problem.

edit: by closed I mean the seam...

I got two NF's recently and modded them quickly but well. Now, I consider myself a good modder. I took them to the park, and they sucked. I went home and replaced the springs and this made all the difference.

Open it up again, and take a look at your hotglue connection. My guess is it's broken. Hotglue is a horrible adhesive for gluing barrels together. Get some epoxy or plumbers goop.
And having to twist stock darts in the barrel doesn't mean it's too tight. You want a tight barrel, especially for stock darts. Though if you're using the stock spring, it might be too weak for that tightness.

Listen to him^. Also, you can just sand down the indide of your CPVC if you would like a little easier fit. You could also try a crayola barrel. If you can get your hands on brass, go for it though.

just a hint: When sanding the inside of cpvc I find that a .5 inch drill bit works wonders for stock darts and my stefans.

Holy Fucking Shit.

Why are there so many people posting that have no idea what they are talking about??

YES, 1/2" CPVC does fit stock darts. If you do not have 1/2" CPVC or have never used it, please don't start going off on how it's only used for yadayada.

Additionally, making a change to crayola or to brass or to PETG when you are already using 1/2" CPVC will not magically grant you 35 feet of range. It just won't unless your darts are insanely tight onto your existing barrel (in which case, you would be a complete moron to not notice).

Check your plunger to see if your piece of craft foam came off. I had this problem with my rattler. I added some foam to the front of the plunger to soften the plunger stopping, but the foam came off and folded into my connections between the plunger and the barrel, effectively blocking the flow. After I removed that, I was getting strong ranges again. I think that your craft foam came off the plunger head and got lodged into somewhere you don't want it to be.

You're fairly new, as you have stated.

You seem to be pretty honest and on the up and up.

Let me tell you that from my observations, about 50% of the range claims that you see on NerfHaven are pure bullshit. The percentage rate goes up the further away you move from NerfHaven (such as NHQ, FU, etc.)

So many times I see people posting things like _____________________ can get 90 feet, with only a spring replacement (I'm trying to be generic, so don't ask for specifics). If and when it came time to put some $$ down on the table, now that would separate the winners from the wieners.

I never saw the result of what was supposed to be an acid test of a modified NiteFinder that someone claimed would shoot "100 feet". I don't know what happened, but it never made it to the test site, I think.

So keks, don't get frustrated when your modded NF "only" gets maybe 30 feet. Many others ones do too, but no one is man enough to admit it.

My six crayola-marker barreled NFs (first generation, with the "good" spring), "only" get maybe 35-40 feet flat, perhaps a bit more if you give some angle trajectory to it. But I know that they are sidearms. Pistols. I have AirTech 2000s that shoot close to 100 feet if they're range junkies. My own two SuperMaxx blasters shoot about 100 feet or thereabouts. For my pistolas, less than 50 feet I can live with.

You really would be good to invest in some markers. Crayolas (if you modify them by dremeling away the ridges inside the marker), or Rose Art markers (which are nicely tapered and have some ridges inside like tightening rings), and don't get frustrated if your NF "only" shoots a bit further than stock (especially if you have the stock N-Strike NF spring in there). You can go with the ACE "number whatever" spring, but then you'll look at watching your blaster wear faster than normal.

Or... you should hit up the OMC for his superior PETG. That would be my ultimate answer. IN fact, I'm almost out. Must PM the OMC.

Here you go
http://nerfhaven.com...topic=10116&hl=
tl:dr it didn't hit 100, but it was a solid mod that consistently hit 70' under rigorous testing. PN maintains that it fired 100' when he had it; ridiculous factors such as temperature and altitude are considered.

Relating more directly to the topic- I'm personally not too sure that "you should be able to tell if it's too tight" means anything to me. "You shouldn't have to screw things in" is also pretty subjective. As someone fairly new to this I don't have experience with a wide range of barrel materials; my CPVC take a little effort to get darts into, but I don't screw anything in. I honestly have no idea if they're "too tight" since I have no calipers to measure ID with. I get the feeling the OP migth be in a similar boat.

Yes, some people here use the following range formula:

range = Measured range + weather + paint color + (Measured Range * Age^-1 * pi) + 1/2*Shoe Size + √(Spring Replacement) + number of darts lost

Take a newly black NF, with a measured range of 30 ft, taken during the rain, with an ACE69 spring. The modder is a 14 y/o kid named x0xNinjaShadowNerfDragonKingx0x.

You have 30 + 8 (for rain) + 8 (it's black) + (30 * 1/14 * pi) + .5 * 10 + Sqrt(69) = 66.0386081

There you have it, the most reliable range formula in existence.

Pink = -5
White = +6
Primary colors = +5
Black = +8
Camo = +12
Halo Themed = +15

Weather:

Cloudy = +2
Rain = +8
Snow = +5
Thunderstorm/Blizzard = lost 4 darts +5

Using this formula and data, you can find the effective range of any gun.

I was agreeing with you, but then ironically saying that the reason that you were right was just because he forgot to add the value for flames.

Which, by the way, had better be added to that list, Peter...along with: Video Game theme = +19

Also, Halo theme gets an extra 40 (on top of the 19 for it being a video game theme).

To moderators/founders: I promise I won't post any more useless posts in this thread.

Edit Wait! I have an idea! Keks: try taking off some of the electrical tape. I have had the problem of having too much friction between the plunger and plunger tube.

There: not-so-useless post.

Edit2: Wait a second, Pink gets a negative? Baghead will have a bone to pick with you...And did you see Twitch's Pink Recon? Pink should be like a conversion from feet to yards, not a downgrade.
