couldn't have said it better my self
nerf is a game(even if played with cursing, bloodthirsty friends, screaming wired warcrys and shooting each other in the head....*teary smile*) just get your parents to understand that
It helps if you play with people your parents can trust

Nerferdude, if you PM me your choice for a new name I'll change it for you. Why don't we avoid anything with ``nerf'' and ``dude'' in it to make things easier on the vets.
Talk to your parents. Repeatedly. If they see that this is something that you're really interested in they might change their mind. Or they might just take you to the store to shut you up. Either way you win.

As a parent as well as a fan of modified Nerf guns, let me give you a parent's point of view (cxwq is also a parent, but I think his child is still too young to Nerf.)
I found out about modified Nerf guns two years ago. My son had a SM 1500, and someone who worked for me showed me how they modify them (NerfOnline). That's the history part.
I buy my son Nerf guns, and fix them up, because he's a good kid, and he behaves himself. It's much cheaper than paintball (and I have two markers myself). I even gave him my "beloved" SM 5000 because "he really wanted it" (that and I took his 1500 to use for my next project).
I keep him away from all Nerf forums because the way some of you kids behave online is deplorable. My son is becoming more proficient with the computer, and maybe he'll be online soon, but until then, hmmm....arguments about spelling and dictionaries, screennames and who's been here longer. Tsk, tsk. How about talking about Nerf?
If your parents are uber anti-gun, even to the point that they won't allow you to buy and own motley colored, clown looking Nerf guns, then I'm sorry to say that that's something beyond your control. Unlike airsoft (which I'll NEVER support because they look too much like the real things), Nerf guns look like toys (which is why I allow my kids to shoot each other, and the loose dogs that chase the chickens here).
If you can convince your parents that these are toys that we modify, and stop talking about shooting holes in walls, breaking windows, or delivering welts, then maybe you'd have a slight chance of getting your guns. Good luck.
