I am going to be filming a movie over the summer using some Nerf guns, and I was wondering how to SAFELY make muzzle flashes, or if it is even possible.

Just because you can't see me doesn't mean I'm not there.

Detonationfilms.com has quite a large cache of stock explosions and muzzle flashes, not to mention that most of them are free. Even if you do decide to buy them, its like 7 dollars for 14 different explosions or something. Hopefully the video editing program you use has a chroma key effect, or else its completely useless. If your program doesn't have that then you shouldn't have purchased it in the first place...

Just scroll down to the bottom and search around the different pages to find what you need.

Ooh, that's an easy one, just put a firework down the barrel and light it.
But seriously, do what the other guy said. I think I might have to use those explosion clips myself, too.

After effects has a plug-in that allows you to draw out a shape with the pen tool, and will distort it and change it until it looks like a muzzle flash. If your doing straight gunshots, do the ones from the above mentioned website, if your doing lasers, use after effects.
