First of all, it's not the newbies who are irritating. It's the n00bs. Newbies are just new and are learning. The n00bs don't respect Cxwq's rules and the other members of the forum, or are just plain stupid. For instance, someone might call you a n00b for posting two pointless topics in a row and not spelling correctly, understand? I'm not insulting you, but this topic seems pointless.

If you want to find a Nerf community that is perhaps more welcoming, you could go to www.nerfhq.com. I don't know how this community expects to flourish while it turns away its newcomers, but in any case, you'll probably have a better time over there. Have fun.

Edit: I just read Fletch's post. And it was "misinformed". The only different between "n00bs" and "newbs" is a combination of letters and numbers in the former. You can call them anything you want, it's not like we govern a code here or anything.

i think you hit the nail right on the head there, janga. you are expected by the general populous of these forums to know exactly how to post before registering. the suggestion given most often to people who want to sign up is this: before you post, maybe even before you register, read the boards for a few days, get some feel for what's accepted and what isn't. look at the threads that already exist and how people respond to certain topics. get a feel for who is who. then post, and you'll be recieved much better.Either that, or they expect you to know exactly how to post before you even register. I mean, it's one thing if you're being n00bish in regards to spelling and grammar. All you did was post a Nerf-related topic, but the problem is that question has already been posed too often, and everyone is sick of it.
a little bit of advice, Zekk, when you're the underdog, don't undermine your own argument by adding 'alright you can shoot the guns at me now ' when no one knows you, you better make your point confidently or not make it at all.

I think Fletch is a perfect example of how this community will flourish while turning away some of its newcomers.I don't know how this community expects to flourish while it turns away its newcomers
Nobody here should be under the pretense that NH is for everyone or that we have designs on taking over the NIC. The Haven isn't anti-n00b, The Haven is vet-friendly. If you think this site invented the conflict between vets and n00bs, you're giving me way too much credit.

I wasn't. I was born an asshole. Just like Spoon was born a Diva and Ash was born a necropheliac...we all were newbies at one time or another

Necrophiliac....and Ash was born a necropheliac...
Just like I was born a grammar nazi. Yep, right out of the womb, and I was the kid you wanted to slam over the head with the podium at the Spelling Bee... Except I wasn't at a Spelling Bee, I was sleeping in a bush. Good times.
On the subject, dare we introduce terms like "7y|20" and "n30|>hy7e?" "n00b" rolls so much better off the tongues of unorignal hyprocrites, so I fear such words will become mainstream, and not just lexically pompous satire.

doesnt xedice read past posts or even think before posting...
a newbie is someone new who asks some dumb quesions or is just generally new but a n00b is some who posts twice in a row... ignores posting rules and disobeys cxwq.. the worst sin of all.....
cxwq nailed it when he said that nhaven is vet friendly... hit 100 posts and your the talk of the town...

Dude, its not the post count....it's how you act to other people on the forums. If you just post some bullcrap question like "how do you mod a <insert gun name here>" instead of looking around that's "newbish" (btw that was just an example). Just respect other people and contribute, who really cares about postcount?cxwq nailed it when he said that nhaven is vet friendly... hit 100 posts and your the talk of the town...
~only VACC n' Spoon don't need to give any respect ~
"Now take off your pants...if you haven't done this before don't go near Goo. If you've done this before...STILL don't go near Goo." good times

sounds like the guy your talking about isn't at all the kind of newbie that we're so very proud of scaring off. anyone fitting that description can easily make sensible topics and posts. if they're annoying, or are easy to flame, or bring up month(s) old topics, they'll balance it out by posting something intelligent. But i was just thinking what if that person is a noob to the site (and some of the terminology) but in real life they're a great nerfer. What if the person you just scared off could've had something valuable to add and could've helped some people in the site with some problems they may have been having with their guns. just a thought.

Uh, yeah, if you are paying attention. Look at the top of your post, it says : Posted on Jan 3 2004, 01:59 PM . That means that my post will be posted around 9 minutes after yours. If for any reason you read an old topic, look at the top of the last post to see when it was posted. If you read a thread where the last post was November 4th, don't even think about posting in it... unless what you have to say is what people want to read. If you read a thread that has it's last post date set at December 29th, go ahead and post, it's not even a week old. See what we are getting at? I hope that helps.im just wondering, how do oyu tell how old a topic is, is there any specific date on the topic that tells you when it was posted and how long it's been since something was last posted reffering to that topic?
