I've changed my mind, I don't think this will ever happen. We'll never know whether it would have worked but there's no point in more speculation if only 6 people including me like the idea.

Not all of us are rolling in cash like you are. I don't have 2 dollars that I could spend every month. This is never going to happen unless nerfhaven turns into a porn site.

I'm not rolling in cash, and I voted for a $1 subscription. I get $10 a month and I don't know if I would be willing to pay a tenth of it, but it would be worth it to see NerfHaven become a cleaner place. I'm not saying that NerfHaven isn't run properly now, but the admins' job would be easier and I think it would reduce stupidness. I mean, I doubt nerf man 99 would have payed a dollar to post the question topic.

I also think that elder members should not be charged. The main purpose of this idea is to prevent trolls from randomly joining, not to fleece the members. Anyone who joined, say, before 2007 or even anyone who contributes shouldn't have to pay just to prove they're not trolls in disguise.

Charging a fee isn't going to reduce the asinine topics, the spammers or the scam artists. Take a look at any other paid site. They still have those problems.

It may reduce the problem a bit, but it is also going to turn away alot of nerfers that are under the age of 18, don't have any money readily available to use freely (slush fund), or those that just prefer to not pay. It would kill the fan base here at NH susbtantially, which, if that is how you want to reduce to problems, would succeed at the cost of making the site no longer worth paying for.

In short, all of the users that are a part of the problem just need to either stop posting all of the fuckin' useless topics and posts and wasting everyone's time or get executed by the admins here at NH.

A free forum is just that, a free service. However if the admins want, they could put a little nifty donate button in a side panel. The ones at Theopia and at Spudfiles seem to fit in quite well, and are also used every once in a while.

There are also plans undergoing personalized Theopia apparel that would be used as a fun raiser. Not that the funds are needed because the Google ads fit into the page and no one adblocks them, but so there can be some passive advertising once we get to phpBB3.

If anything, just set up a donating system, no minimum, no maximum. Unless you need a minimum for paypal or something like that...

I think that it would be a good idea. Like half of the newer members are like 10. Most kids that are like my age (13) and up still have a couple bucks to spend. Hey, I get $40 per month, (I do maaaannny chores), and I would be willing to pay 1.50- 2.00 per month. And with the hundreds of members that have some money (and are dedicated to the site) that they would spend on nerf guns at a retailer, nerfhaven could have their own online nerf shop. It's just an idea.
Don't they already sell t-shirts or something?
But yes, it would reduce the amount of ass-wipes that post stupid topics. Like that guy nerf man 99, the guy that posted, "ask me anything."

I think if we were trying to start charging dues we'd more likely do something along the lines of what IGN or PennyArcade have going. You would pay a small monthly fee and in return gain access to a plethora of special materials and extras. For example, Groove's nude drawings of me with my crossbow (accompanied by the High Res photos I spammed his inbox with until he agreed to draw them), links to my favorite pornographic websites, and personalized locks of my pubic hair.

I would love one of your pubic hairs VACC! Anyways, there would still be a lot of noobs running around doing the same exact thing. It wouldn't really change anything. I'm broke as shit right now I don't have a dollar to pay to see a public web page for a month. I'm off to pay for gas in QUARTERS.(That I scrounged up from around my house, thats how broke I am)

I voted 1.50-2 bucks because it would be worth it to have extra features and less little queers posting like crazy.

I think we should also have a post minimum of 5-7 words. Theres way to many "NICE WRGHT UP!", "OMFG SIGG'D LMFOA", AND "OMFG U SUCK!". Cough Sn1per Cough

I think anything under 2 dollars a month would be worth it to get rid of great contributive posts like...

Hah...

Put a screwdriver onto the screw and turn.

What a shame.

Best part.

Dang...Big.

added that hilarious quote to my signature, while playing with my butthole...

Thats just a select few from page 1 of Sn1per's 9 pages of posts... all worthless. If you can't tell, I don't like you.

I think this idea could work, but it would also deter many new members at the same time (which is the whole idea). While turning away many unhelpful members we might also be turning away some members which could be contributive. Either way I don't think it would help that much, because two dollars isn't really much to most people (especially the <13 year olds who usually get money for "allowance."

I personally would pay for it now if it came to that, but I really am indeferent when it comes to whether I would prefer making a subscription or keeping it free. I bet the majority of people would like it to remain free though.

How about we all stay on-topic and stop bashing the post whores and the users who are the inspiration for this thread.

It will never happen anyways, so I don't even see why this is being discussed, but carry on.

I had to null my vote as there was no option to say no to an amount either, so I couldn't truly say no to everything.

I think everyone is making a mountain out of a freaking molehill. I think the majority of the members of this site actually make contributive posts. Even simple posts complementing a mod make the poster feel good.

Granted, Nerfhaven is an excellent place. This is a great forum, and even though it has it's faults, I still like to be here. But I, and I know others, am not going to pay for it. It's a pretty wack idea.

I don't think a mandatory subscription fee is a good idea. In fact, it would probably kill NH, and then make a crap load of noobs fly over to NHQ and make posts like "ROFL! WUT GNU SHULD I GETS? IM A NOOBZ SO BE NICE TO ME!".

If you want to give this site money, buy a T-shirt or something... or give the money to me, and then I'll hand it over to Cxwq or VACC and not keep all of it for myself and buy pretzels with it...

You dare to knock the shirts? Pfft...other t-shirts don't even compare.

Well, it would be really awesome to have a ban notification shirt with changing LED date.

But barring than that...yeah, they're the most awesome shirts ever in existence, to the extreme.

EDIT -- I just wanted to say that I'm not pussing out to avoid flames or anything. I just realized that this would ruin NerfHaven like penguin807 said.

I know what you said about ignoring this, but whatever. Do you really need a reason to contribute? I mean, if you're spending so much time on here that your life is actually affected by dumb posts, what does that say? Maybe get of NerfHaven, get a job, and send cx a donation, as a token of thanks, with no strings attached.

A free forum is just that, a free service. However if the admins want, they could put a little nifty donate button in a side panel. The ones at Theopia and at Spudfiles seem to fit in quite well, and are also used every once in a while.

That's my 2 cents.

As far as donation panels go, while I don't want to speak for anyone else, especially cx, I think his life is a little more important to him than spending time to get lunch money from the forum members. Sure, he appreciates donations, but he's probably not interested in spending time implementing and maintaining such a system.
