BEFORE CLICKING THE LINK, you gotta follow these rules.

The movie you're gonna watch is in the first link below, but you are only allowed to watch it once. Seriously, don't cheat! In the video you will see a group of basketball players, some in white and some in black passing two balls around. Your goal is to count how many times the ball is passed by those wearing white shirts. It’s that simple. Remember, count just the passes of the ball by those wearing white. Once the movie is over, write down the number of passes you have counted, Do not watch the video again. Then go to the second link.

Uh, dude, it says 'close enough' no matter how many passes. The number of passes doesn't matter. The whole thing was about the gorilla. In fact, the three different ranges all link to the same static web page.

I saw the gorilla, but I counted 30 passes.

Just count the passes from the people in white.
I think there are 14.
The whole thing was about concentration. In order to count the number of passes, you need to concentrate on the ball. This concentration makes other activity which would otherwise be obvious go unnoticed.

I was going to actually do this... but I kind of ruined it by going through the whole thing. Why? Well there seems to be so many of those videos that ... well they have some scary face pop out at you with screaming at the most random point in the movie. That makes me really scared.

That's pretty much what made me think it was one of those videos. Be careful when watching videos that other people tell you to watch! Haha...

I thought for sure there was going to be some sort of screamer at the end. But yeah. I was bracing myself for that screamer, so there was no time to concentrate on the ball.

I counted 14, but I think there may have been 15. (the questionare has a link that says 13-15)

I also saw the gorilla my first time through, but the damn questionare wouldn't believe me.


EDIT: Since I already got it right, I decided to view the vid again, more carefully. About halfway through, one of the boys is standing in front of the girl. The boy in back passes to the girl, but she hot-potatoes it to the boy in front.
15 passes.

I got it on my first try (counted 14-15...wasn't sure if there was a quick little hand off thing right as the gorilla stands in front of the ball). When I was reading the next page about distraction I almost laughed out loud when it mentioned magicians. I've been a part-time magician (not one of those creepy guys that wear capes and try to pick up on girls or the other creepy kind like Criss Angel...just a normal guy who can make you question your view of reality) for about five years and we call this misdirection. It's pretty funny. Sometimes you can get away with taking someone's wallet while talking to them, putting a card in it, and putting it back in their pocket. I personally don't do that style of magic very often...but it can be pretty funny.

I saw this in Intro to Psychology. Out of a lecture hall with upwards of two hundred people, maybe a dozen got it the first time. It was awesome.
