So i wanted to make a quick buck...
My friends and I play lots of nerf, and none of us have long range guns, which ticked me off!
Sure we have longshots, but i'm the only modder of the group and i hate modding ls, so i didn't for them.
One of my friends asked me to make him a gun, and paid me $40, because he knew i could do it.
So I went down to the hardware store, and after about a half hour of anoying the assistant (not intentonaly)
I decided what parts I needed, so I bought them (no shit).
I bought 3 feet of 3inch pc, 2 3inch pvc caps, 6feet half inch pvc, 1/2inch ball vaulve, a 3inch pvc elbow, a 3inch pvc t and 2 pieces that connected to make 3inch go to half inch (no idea what the were).
I also bought the blue kind of glue, (was suggested by the assistant) no idea wut it's called
anyway, I brought it all home and got to work.
First, I took a foot of the 3inch pvc, smothered it in glue and jammed the cap on it, with all my weight.
I did the same with the other cap and another 3inch pvc pipe.
After that, I took the first pvc (now with cap on it) and attached an elbo to it (with glue), which lead upward.
attached to the elbow, I put the t, facing down and out to both sides. I attached them by cutting the third peice of 3inch pvc to about 6 inch's, which worked quite well.
I attached the second pvc (with cap on it) at the left end of the t, so it was pointing the same way as the other capped pvc, and a shoulder would fit quite nicely between the 2 of them.
At the unused end of the t, i attached the peices that lead 3inch to half inch.
I cut 3 inch's of the 1/2inch pvc and attached the ball vaulve to the gun (not glued) so it can moved around depending on the person's prefrense thats using it.
I then cut 4 feet of the 1/2inch pvc and attached it to the other end of the ball valve, unglued, so the barrel is taken off to load a dart and put back.

I also bought a yellow bike pump, but it didn't use a rubber hose, it was some other material, so to prevent leaking, I wrapped some of it in ducktape.
I ducktaped it to the bottom of the gun, and drilled a whole in the elbow pvc and glued the pump hose inside the gun. I did this because i wanted to be able to have the user have everything he needs in one place, instead of having a pump somewere else that he'd have to go get (or she, my bad). besides, it less then 2 pounds, so whats the big deal.

The bottle of pvc glue i used said quick drying, but i wanted to be careful, so i let it sit for an hour before i fired it. At 16 pumps, it went 200 feet. I then pumped it 30 times and the ball vaule popped off, really load and scared the shit out of me. I decided not to pump it more then 20 times.

I would post many detailed pics, but i don't know how yet, so i'll show u my youtube video on it

the gun

anyway, i made this for my friend, but because it's my first, i decided to keep it and build him another one with my own money, cause i don't think i'll ever get it this perfect again\

I edited most of it, thanks for the avdice guys.

That's a lot of work for just one shot. Also, it's really cumbersome. At most, it's a support weapon. If you can manage to downsize it and get a greater rate of fire, you'll might just have something there. But I would work on the size issue first.

So that huge thing is pretty much a giant air tank with a barrel on it? That's awesome, the huge bazooka like look to it really impresses me. Oh yeah, and why don't you capitalize anything?

The chances of one person taking a bomb on a plane are one in a million. The chances of two people taking a bomb on a plane are one in a trillion. So if you're scared of a terrorist attack, bring a bomb on a plane.

Freaking scary... It looks big and cumbersome as the others have said, but i think that you should get some Lexan and make a body for it, and then you could shoot people when they're busy cleaning out their pants... if you get me.

You should really get a longer barell (sp?) for that thing, I mean the air output is huge! Assuming you could keep the barrel from bending, you could add a few feet of barrel to your gun.

The rof isn't that great, takes like ten second to take the barrel off, load the dart and put it back on, and about 30 to 45 seconds to pump, should be making another video tonight, in which case I will post later.

Mmm.... I don't get it. Is your friend going to use this in a Nerf war or did he just want something that shoots really far to screw around with?

Either way, what was your profit on this thing?

Well it may not be practical, or legal in large-scale Nerf Wars, but I guess it's pretty cool.

Now, because I don't wanna see you banned, I'm going to tell you to start using good grammar, capitalizing, etc. And, in case you didn't notice, there is a button that allows you to edit things you already posted.

Also, I highly suggest you read this " New Members Guide."

If you're too busy or lazy, I suggest at least reading this, this, that, and this image posting tutorial.

He wanted it to screw around with.
We also have wars over like 5 acres, on my friends house, cause he has lots of land, and he wanted it to lob over the whole field, which might be affective, because if anyone else got any were near him, he would shot them down before they got range. We play were one hit is dead, and usually we play teams, and i'm on his team, and i use my magstrike to balance out the force, (i did the double clip mod to it, no, not combinding to clips, shooting 2 clips without having to repump).
Anyway, only $5 profit, because it's a good exprience to make the gun.
Here are some more vids...

my gun, the gardian
the magstrike mod, very close to forsaken angels

I realize all you know what the magstrike is, but I said what it is because it was a school project to improve it, called the invention convention, so you can skip around in the video.

Thanks for getting that second video up Ice. That's pretty cool that you can carry multiple guns with the Guardian at same time. For size comparison, could you get a video up demonstrating you firing the Guardian and then switching to a Recon for Close Quarters Combat? That would give you a pretty sweet advantage for both range and rate of fire.

p.s. - where abouts do you Nerf? NJ/East Coast by any chance?

You should really use a solenoid, or another valve instead of a Ball valve. Seriously, with that big ass tank, you could shoot holes in something with a solenoid valve, or something else.

Famine- I doubt hes by us, 5 acres of land in NJ... Yeah right... I'm guessing Nevada, or Oregon.

FYI: I'm not sure how old that Firing Test video is but that 'old Nerf fun' is called an Expand-a-Blast.
And don't knock the Airtech 3000, I'd argue that it's the best gun in your arsenal*.

*I know the Big Blast, when modified, would be the Primary of choice but if I had to take a gun off that table and Nerf with it As Is I'm going for the 3k.

Ummm... maybe where you live there's no one who has 5+ acres. Where I reside tons of people own large quantities of land. My friend has 60 acres.

The Airtech 3000 is hugely overrated stock it shoots 5 feet, and the only time I've seen a modded one shoot well it was singled.

Man, you could threaten low-flying aircraft with that thing....

I really like the ergonomics of your design, but I have a few comments about it. As you found, even "quick-drying" PVC cement needs some time to cure. It's best to let it set for 24 hours. As far as the leak by your reducing bushing, you could probably seal it up with Plumber's Goop, rather than trying to hit it with PVC adhesive again. Don't bother with duct tape...it's pretty much useless for sealing things under pressure.

One other word of warning: the tee you're using is a sanitary tee, which isn't rated for pressure. It's probably okay (other people have used them, and have been alright), but you're better off going with standard schedule 40 fittings.

Nice work! Looking forward to seeing more stuff in the future.

Makes me miss my hand cannon.

But anyway, were the darts you used in your second video CTDs or just regular taggers? If they were regular taggers, you'd get more range using mega (or possibly jumbo) Stefans. It'd be a bit more deadly, but really... look at it. You probably wouldn't use it in a war anyway.

I think the lesson learned from this is that "even" a 13yearold kid with some pieces of huge pvc and shitloads of glue/pvc cement can make a good gun. Therefore anyone could make their own gun and they should.

The range is pretty typical of an air gun of its size, very nice design though. If you really want to blow something up, instead of nerf darts use a AA battery. Or don't. It will do some serious damage. Also, you should think about installing a brass breech if you make one for yourself, that will improve ROF by a good amount.

Alright, I finally got outside today to shoot the gaurdian before it got dark. I'm very depressed right now because the accuracy sucks, I couldn't hit my friends at 20feet. Any suggestions on accuracy would be very appreciated, and for those of you that have suggested firing mechanisms besides the ball value, I have taken your suggestions and am going back to the hardware store tomorrow to pick some stuff up. Anyway, he's the link.

the guardian

Normally, I would scrap the gun and start over but it cost me $40. A 14 year old can only make so much money at a time.

I'm guessing that either your darts are too light, or your barrel is too short. If you're using that much air, there's going to be a lot of excess pressure by the time your dart exits the end of your barrel. They're probably fishtailing wildly with all the unused power.

If you're going to use a longer barrel, you'd be better off using one continuous piece of PVC, rather than trying to use couplers.
