This might sound noobish, but, here it goes. I know that the best spring to use is an AR-15 spring. But I have no idea where to find one. Do you actually have to get one from an AR-15? Help would be appreciated.

Okay thank you guys.

He needs the ACTION (Also called the BUFFER) spring, not the detent.

Just call some local gun shops. Most of them carry them, know someone that does, or can order them for you.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

Check this out, Prometheus.

I don't know exactly where it's used on an AR-15, though...

What does the detent spring do?

A good link diagramming the takedown and assembly of an AR-15.

"Best" spring is relative. It all depends on what you're trying to do, the space available, and the power you need, or can properly use.

What does the detent spring do?

There are a few of them, a detent is like the ball on a spring plunger and pushes into a notch to hold a piece in place when it's moved. Tthere's a detent in the firing selector, and one in the take-down (the piece you disengage to start stripping down the whole weapon).
So as you can guess the detent springs are really small.

Yes it is. Will probably be cheaper if purchased locally though.
