My latest +Bow. It's not 100% complete as it still needs a bit of sanding of some edges, and I'd like to have it anodized. I wanted a Nerf blaster that I could pass down to my great, great grandchildren, and this thing should be durable enough.







Anything that would normally be cut from polycarbonate, is instead machined from Aluminum. Special thanks to the West Chester Never Ending Research and Development Society for access to their band saw and mill, and of course to Captain Slug for his brilliant design.

*Edit: Don't worry, I don't melee-strike with any part of a blaster I made at home, I find it helps cut down on the number of people cut on cpvc barrels, bruised, et cetera.

How smooth is the inside of the plunger tube? If it looks like the outside, it seems like it would file away the o-ring(s).

Shouldn't be too bad. Aluminum and polycarbonate are similar in weight per cubic inch.

Bobafan - The inside of the plunger tube is as smooth as any plastic barrel; (as is the outside) there was a bit of dust from sanding that I apparently missed when I took the pictures

Galaxy 613 - It only weighs about 4 pounds

doubleshot - yeah, the device isn't quite 100% complete, and at the moment I have not cut the foam to fit in the grip.

How much force, relatively speaking, is carried by the grip of a +bow? I was thinking about making the grip out of wood instead of plastic, thinking that the wood can be worked to better contour to my hand than plastic, and in my experience with handguns, a wooden grip is in some cases more comfortable than metal, plastic, or rubber.

I'd like to know if this is even remotely possible before I try to make one. I'll accept that I can screw up and may need to make 2 or 3 grips before I get something that is comfortable and can hold up, but I don't want to waste time if there is too much stress in the grip for wood to work.

Twitch, that is sick-wicked awesome. Do you have the part numbers for Mcmaster-Carr for your materials. I'm making my own +bow this summer and want to make a few vital components, notably the plunger tube out of aluminum rather than polycarbonate, purely for the sake of durability.

On the subject of durability, I'm waiting for someone to make a titanium +bow! Kidding, of course, seeing as how that would cost several thousand dollars.

Looks interesting, I finished my +bow today and I should have a picture by tomorrow. After seeing this, I am starting to think about designing integration brackets to. Could you expalin how it attaches to the splitfire and +bow, and could you get a picture when you finish it. Good idea Ryan.

Did the link work for you? It works for me on multiple computers?

Anyway, basically the two identical pieces screw into the top of the integration bracket perpendicularly. Then you take 2" screws and put them through both of the 13/64" holes which goes through the bottom of the +bow. Sorry that probably makes no sense. I'll ask sam to see if he'll post a picture about, because I made one for him. Either that or I'll just draw it up in CAD. The two barrels on the splitfire go through the integration bracket and zip ties secure the rest of the splitfire into place.

That could be why. It only opens in Microsoft Word....maybe that's the problem.

Ill open it in word then. Macs have that program but I was trying preview (another program)...

Yes it worked for me, and I just checked it on my other computer. It worked on both and one has firefox and one has internet explorer so that doesn't make a difference. The reason you can't open it is because mac's will only open up the mac form of microsoft word, (I believe it is called mac word).

No, you are wrong. Word on a mac is microsoft word. NOT mac word. I just found out I have not installed word on this laptop yet though so my viewing will have to hold off for about an hour.

edit: I like the design... Once I get a +bow Ill be sure to add a splitfire to it... Or maybe a homemade one...

Yeah, I see the Microsoft right above word now.


For those that are having trouble viewing this, here is a picture of what it looks like. However, do not print this, the measurements of the templates are not correct because I re sized the image to make it viewable. This is a good design, and I might consider buying my friend's splitfire to do it.

You can even make template pages in this version of WORD

You can also make them in OpenOffice.

Micros. Nobody typically uses Megas anymore, for anything.
