How's it going everyone? You all have you recon's right? Well not that the gap in between West Coast, East Coast and Canada is filling in, I've discovered that the Target in Jackson, MI has Recons. That means... that they are all mine. And you Mr. Armada, MI, (I forgot your name) I might allow you but right now it's collect and grab. Well that's very all good and nice but you all probably want to know about the second part of this post.

Ok... Since recon's are still really hard to get, I pondered making one out of a Mave. While it's not a totally baked idea, I'd like to bounce some ideas off of legends and other modders. I need a Longshot to get an idea of the clip-feed system. Since I'm the first ( I think) to post this, I thought it might be best to collaborate this with someone rather than seeing someone else just do it. I could use a "thumbprint" mod besides my up and coming Lambert Carbine and PowerStroke LS.

All ideas regarding this are welcomed and encouraged.

Magazine system - ie. replace the rotating barrels with a clip so it looks like the recon. Also, probably putting in a slightly different cocking mechanism so it has an "armed" air plunger. Basically, it's making a Mave "look" like a recon. If it work, well... cool.

What do you mean by making a Recon out of a mav? They're two completely different magazine systems. A better explanation would be nice.

Yeah, it'd work. Essentially you'd have to take out the stuff with a red box around it in the picture below, give it a new barrel that's breach loading, attach a clip to the breach, connect the priming handle (sorry guys, I didn't want to be added that hilarious quote to my signature, while playing with my butthole saying "connect the breach to the maverick's cocker", but now that I said that someone will probably do it anyway...) to the breach, glue some sort of thing that says "armed" to the back of the plunger, and then do some cosmetic work to it.

It'd work, but the Recon will probably be available everywhere in a month or two, so why bother? I personally like the Maverick, and it might just be me, but I couldn't take out its auto-rotating mech. & turret to resemble something that will be widely available in stores in a couple of months.

That said, I look foreward to seeing how it turns out.

I understand. I like the mave too. I absolutely hate the way the NF looks but that aside, it's purpose is just to do it. I like the idea of having "uniques."

That'd be way too much work for little result. Replacing the 6 shot turret for a 6 shot clip is rather pointless except for faster reloading, and having to make a breech for that thing would be very difficult. It would be a good project if you like a challenge, but it wouldn't be very reliable and wouldn't be very useful in wars.

Its going to be a unique piece of crap.

The problem here is you will have to design a breech system for a Maverick with Maverick strength.

Clip lock, clip release, bolt tooth and all that other fine jazz to a Maverick.

Has anyone forgotten how weak the metal peg under the slider is?

This would take a lot of talent to do and I don't see it coming to fruition.
If you can pull it off your talents could have been used doing a more useful mod.

That pretty much kills this idea. Looks like I'll be doing something else. I'll wow you somehow.

Awww, FA24 said everything I was going to.

I too don't see the point. You're trying to add the "cool factor" of a magazine to a usually abysmally performing gun. And in doing so you're going to negatively affect the rate of fire, the reload time, and most likely the durability and reliability of the gun if you do so poorly.
If you want a Maverick you can reload quickly with a fresh turret "clip" I would recommend my drop-clip modification.

I see what your saying, you want to make an alternative to the Recon, I was looking for a way to homemake an equivelent at one point. I just don't understand why you would try this with a maverick, what are the advantages to making a six shot weapon into a clip fed six shot weapon? I love the maverick even though it is fairly weak, and I own two. Really this style mod would be better applied to something more powerful, perhaps a NF.

Why the hell would you put that much work into making an alternative loading system for the mav just so it can look sort of similar to a new gun that came out?

I agree.
The Recon without the attachments is a pistol similar to the Maverick. The differences are minimal.

If you are going to state that the 'Armed" plunger/rod sticking out annoys you then figure out some way of getting around that. That would be something I would love to see, over some silly mod to make a needlessly complicated gun.

Keep up the creative thought, but try to remember you have to build your idea at some point.

I would just like to throw it out there, that if you happen to screw up your Mav (and have a spare airgun laying around) you can make a pretty efficient single shot gun out of the case. The slider acts as the actuator for the breech...

I have done this, however I am still working to make a reliable magazine.

I only wanted to do something different with the materials at hand. I did end up scraping this. I broke into a Lanard Dual Shot and wanted to look at the parts (mainly the electronics). Something happened so... I feel obligated to utilize its parts for something else. What that is is pretty interesting. However.... I didn't win my eBay for a airtech 2000 so... now i have to go and buy a RF20. Either way, it was going to $20.

Just another thought, despite the original idea being dead:

What about cutting a Longshot down to pistol size?
Would that not essentially capture what you were trying to do, with slightly less work because you've got all the clip-feeding parts in place?

(I wouldn't attempt it... but it's an idea!)

At least you are on the right track. Keep up the ideas and don't give up. Hell, its not like there are alot of people posting relevant material. Look at the NF, Maverick or any other popular blaster, majority of them are the same process with a few variations.
Keep thinking of ideas and tinkering and you will make something. Hell, my mod for the TTG made it up on the main mod list just cuz no one thought of it.

And remember, there is a fine line between creativity and stupidity.
