I'm not sure exactly what kind of battlefield you are looking for, but about a 5 minute walk down the bike path, towards Como Park, is the site of the old Amusement Park. It's along the river and has some bike ramps in a lightly forested area. My friends and I have airsofted there before with no real problems. It has some real opportunities for cover and flanking. The only issue might be that darts could easily be lost.
If you need any help with locations, let me know. Unfortunately, I only brought a Maverick home with me from school, and I may be in Toledo during the dates you mentioned, so I probably can't participate.

Lynx, I really don't know if we should do the war in Columbus, when you're not sure that you can even be there. I know it's a central location, but someone who knows the area and can organize it needs to be sure.
As I said before, I can drive wherever, and I just found out today that I might have the whole week of Christmas off, so I might be able to do Friday the 28th. Dave, if you can find a good spot up in Cleveland I'd be all for it.

I will be 8 hours from here until at least the 29th, and probably the 30th also. I'm not sure what's going on but really doubt I have any chance of going.
No other Saturdays work anyway because I have speech tournaments.

I like the sound of the field that Jedijoe is talking about, but like Brandon said....if no one from Columbus is there....it doesn't make much sense. If you are 100% coming, Lynx, then I should be down for Columbus. If not, then I think we need to seek an alternative location.

Take the last CANO, for instance. The host never showed up. I was driving/waiting around the park for about an hour trying to figure out what was going on. bpso86 and his Cinci friends pulled up and were also very confused as to what was going on; we were the only people there so far. We waited around for about 20 minutes waiting for people to show up, and I saw a van circling a parking lot down a path from us. I went over and found NerfMonkey who was also very confused. We waited around a bit longer, but no one else ever showed up. We wasted over an hour of time because of poor organization, and that's never a good thing.

What? Oh, yeah, it sounds alright. I should be able to go on the 29th, but its' not 100% yet. We should probably start around 10am; that seems to be pretty standard.
Can I get a link to the location on regular Google map, though? Also, do you have any better (and larger) pictures?

I will more than likely be there, and I've talked to some of my buddies tonight and they could possibly come as well. Nothing set in stone yet, though, since we don't have a date.
I also just found out that the weekend of Jan. 5th and 6th (I think those are the dates) would be best for myself and my group. If we can't do that, let me know and I'll try to let them know and work around it.
As always, I'll bring a ton of guns, ammo, probably a flat of gatorade, etc. Not like we'll need it when it's the middle of winter, but hey, who knows.
Columbus isn't that far of a drive for me either.

First off are some pictures from the area Lynx has been talking about at Whetstone park. You should note that the park is near the highway and a river, so it's pretty windy and a little loud. That being said, I still think it is an awesome battlefield.
For reference, here is the google earth picture that was posted earlier. The black circle is where I was parked (green car seen in pictures) so that should give you some reference.
The area that seems to be the best is the area to the left of the road and continues below the image.
This area has alot of open space, some cover, and many picnic tables.
There is a trail that runs through the area. For reference, my car is just out of view on the left hand side
Farther down the trail is a shelter house: It is full of picnic tables (the lighter, metal bar kind) that could easily be moved around for cover. The only issue would be that you would have to stop using them if someone has it reserved. Considering how cold it will probably be, it shouldn't be an issue.
Park Rules:
The second area is the prairie in the left center of this image: http://img206.images...etstone6po4.jpg
This area is essentially a path through tall grass with many areas to hide and take cover. I imagined some sort of escort the VIP scenario where one group must defend the pass while the other attempts to traverse it. It's about a 2 minute walk from the parking lot and you can see parts of the first area I posted from it.
Map of the prairie area:
View from the entrance to the path.
Along the path. The areas on both sides are mostly dry and not very muddy. There is also sufficient room to walk through the bramble without crushing anything.
Finally, the third area is the one I referenced earlier in the thread. This is located at Como park, which is accessible from W. Lakeview Avenue, which is only a few streets farther down High Street from Whetstone park. The parks are actually accessible through the bike path, but driving is much more practical. Parking is at the bottom of the street and there is a little walk from there.
View from the parking lot. The trail to the area is in the back left.
The trail. Follow in forward for a short distance.
This is the trail to the area. it follows the river and goes all the way to the end of the forested area. It makes the whole area fairly accessible. Sometimes, someone will walk a dog in this direction, but even a dog walker wouldn't interrupt the game.
The trial. The playing area is everything to the left of the trail
Me in the area-- There are some dirt ramps built for BMX bikes, and one of the small bowls would make a good defensive position. Many of the trees are easily climbable too. The path that runs through the area is fairly open, but allows for choke points near some of the bramble.
View from one of the trees
Sort of an area overview.
I have to say, if the weather stays how it is, it is going to be a COLD battle. Overall, I think the first location is pretty cool-- it's the most accessible and is usable for many types of games. The prairie has some potential for cool battles--but I think it is somewhat dependent on how many people are participating. The third location is great because it is very close to civilization, yet you are really sort of isolated and you don't need to worry about people getting in your way.
Hopefully this was of some help. I'm hoping the turn out is good and we can do another one when I am around sometime. Let me know if you need anything else.

Let's set a date. I'm flexible. So, weekend of Dec. 29th/30th, or Jan. 5th/6th?

The last one he posted looks very interesting, although I'd worry about the river (we had someone fall into the creek where we played back in October). We can even switch throughout the day, since a majority of us will be driving as well.
The river is only near the edge of the playing area- We never had a problem with it during airsofting. I have been swimming in the river though (that was a unique experience)
Let's set a date. I'm flexible. So, weekend of Dec. 29th/30th, or Jan. 5th/6th?
If it is the weekend of the 5th and 6th, I may be able to play, so I vote for that one.
