Coat the hollowed-out part with bacon fat and allow it to dry.
After the war, get a dog and he'll sniff them all out.
If he eats them, you'll have to hang around for a few hours until it comes out again. Remember the re-coat with bacon fat if that's the case.

I recommend a small dog to minimize ingestion.

Oh. My. Fuck.

That's ingenius. And funny at the same time. I suggest making a unique weight on the tip... that's what I do.

Buy colored electrical tape (orange, yellow, red) and wrap a strip around the tip.

i haven't tested this yet, but i heard somewhere that most hotglues shine brightly under a blacklight. so replace the bulb in your flashight to a blacklight, and have at it. of course, you'd only be able to find your darts at night.

I believe colored hot glue is only seasonal. You can usually get it around Christmas time.

I've only ever seen 2 types of black light - either an incandescent POS that doesn't work very well (and it screws into a standard light fixture which most flashlights do NOT have), or else fluorescent tubes. Fluorescent flashlights typically have some funny proprietary bulb type and can't handle a 12"+ fluorescent tube. Plus black lights get HOT compared to standard tubes.
I think the theory is sound, but there's nothing on the market right now that's especially useful, unless you hook a car battery up to a 4-foot fixture and run around like hell.
As for painting/taping: have you guys found that it impacts range? Electrical tape especially has a pretty high friction coefficient so I can imagine it taking a bit of the bite out of the shot. Same with several paint types I can think of.

He has a point with the resistance tape would create. Just do something on the tip, either a unique weight, or something colourful. Maybe a dab of paint on the tip would help? I really don't know, I've never really had a problem finding mine.

They do have miniature flourescent blacklights, I think... I saw them on a dating show where the people got to go into their blind date's room and inspect it. The black light makes any "unmentionable stains" on the bedspread show up. It seemed to work pretty well.

I agree that tape or paint probably isn't the best idea for the foam part of the dart. Either try and find a better color of foam for the environment you're Nerfing in, or a better color hot glue.
