RSS content can be read using software called an "RSS reader," "feed reader" or an "aggregator." The user subscribes to a feed by entering the feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS icon in a browser that initiates the subscription process. The reader checks the user's subscribed feeds regularly for new content, downloading any updates that it finds.

It's like something you can access the internet from other electronics, like psp's and phones.
Just on a smaller screen.
Yeah, that has pretty much nothing to do with it. CSS, on the other hand can be used to style the internet so it appears well on handhelds, but that's not really its primary function. Could you have been thinking of CSS?
Langley - Not really sure why it is needed. Sure, lots of people don't visit the forums, but Evil recently started up the East Coast Mailing List which will notify everyone ( on the east coast ) of upcoming wars. I doubt you wanted to get an RSS feed for every new topic ( sorry if I'm getting presumtious ). I guess it might be beneficial for the announcements forum though. However, I'm fairly sure IPB has settings that allow for email notification of newly started topics, I think Cx would just have to turn it on.

Like, real people, that go outside?
I tried using it once, gave up, came back a few months later, tried again, gave up.
I read a lot of blogs, Engadget, Inhabitat, MAKE etc and to keep track of all those becomes tiresome (I know, RSS feeds should simplify it, but they really don't, honestly) and well all know it's more fun to go to the actual website and get the full visual experience.
I see RSS links on nearly every website, but never see any usage figures or anything, so yeah, thread hijack...
Rollcall on RSS users?

I've used RSS via OSX dashboard widgets for certain sites (like Digg, Slashdot et al). I've never quite seen the point of subscribing to a feed, and then reading via the browser - if you have a browser window open, why not check the site? - but checking site updates with a keypress is rather nice.Rollcall on RSS users?
As a sidenote, Safari 3 has the interesting feature of being able to take clips of webpages, and update them live as dashboard widgets (accomplishing the same thing as an RSS feed widget). I've been playing around with a widget of the NH "view new posts" page, and it works pretty well.

I imagine different feeds could be set up for different forums, or a feed could be set up that shows the top ten most recently *replied to* threads, for those who miss the old front page. Also, an RSS feed could be used on another site to refer to recent NH threads. At one time, there were plans to create a sister site for NH that focused on organizing events. One of the features would have been a joint NH/NHQ Nerf Wars Forum feed. The RSS feed Spanky set up is probably still there.
