I recently modded my longshot by AR removal and adding another spring. There is still something when I look down the barrel that is in the way, but I dont think its an AR. I put on a strong spring (in addition to the original ls spring). i didnt bother putting in all the parts back except the ones I thought were neccessary. When I shot it, the thing that kept the gun cocked wouldnt hold it all back. So I got rid of the extra spring and put on an original nitefinder spring. It works, but only (cont. sorry)

Which parts were the ones you didn't put back?

(written via psp) - only gets like 20 feet. What could be wrong?

Everything but the barrel, trigger, plunger and thing that keeps the gun locked.

It sounds like you took out the dart tooth (if you don't know what part that is, see here). If so, that's probably your problem; you can't take that out unless you modify the breech to get a better seal.

Still, I urge you to post pics so that we can be sure it isn't something else.

The spring you added was to strong for the catch to hold. This happens to all nerf guns that arnt reinforced. The thin you see is possible the peg that holds the darts from going into the plunger tube.Id recomed putting the strong spring back in and putting a stronger catch spring in.

No, the dart tooth is still in there. Anyway, I have pics.

Posted Image My plunger. You can see the original LS spring with an original NF spring.

Posted Image The...O-Ring. It's the original one covered in that white tape that isn't sticky. The black stuff you see is some dry lubricant I put all in the plunger tube.

Posted Image And looking down the plunger tube. You can see that thing in the way back but I didn't remove it because it didn't look like an AR to me.

White tape that isn't sticky.... Are you talking about Teflon pipe tape? Oh yeah, and if you didn't clean off all the original lubricant before you decided to poured graphite all over it, you're screwed.

I'm not sure what the tape is called. I heard about it on these forums though. It comes on a blue plastic roll and to get it to stick to the o-ring you have to pull it around it tight.

No, I didn't clean off the original lubricant. I added some oil from my face though cause it felt like it would be a lubricant.

Yes, thats called Teflon PTFE tape.

Edit: Why the hell would you add oil from your face?

Basically, your a dumb-ass. That gooey grayish mess isn't going to help the plunger seal at all.

So do you think if I took a water gun and shot the plunger tube for a while all the graphite/lubricant/oil would wash off? Then could I add just the graphite.

#1: Your plunger tube is installed the wrong way around. The peg pictured here on the outside of it is supposed to fit into a hole in the shell underneath it.
Posted Image
#2: Any spring added to the plunger will require that you also add a stringer spring to the trigger plate that holds the plunger in the primed position
#3: You haven't plugged the hole in the top of the bolt that is designed to allow it to vent air when the restrictor is removed. You need to plug it from the inside with tape, or seal it with glue.
#4: You can supplement the stock spring with a second one, but if you want to replace it completely the spring you are replacing it with has to have a similar uncompressed length.
#5: You shouldn't be using anything other than silicone base lubricants with plastics. Graphite is not a desirable lubricant because it has no holding power, and neither are petroleum based lubricants because they will degrade plastics and rubbers. Remove the plunger and clean it with water and regular soap, then relubricate it with spray silicone lubricant.

Basically, your a dumb-ass.

And you're being an asshole. Two sides of the same coin.

The little critters of nature, they don't know that they're ugly. That's very funny, a fly marrying a bumble bee. I told you I'd shoot, but you didn't believe me. Why didn't you believe me?

Alright thanks, I'll try doing all that stuff. They're pretty small things, but they could make a difference...

also if i might add you need to add 2 extra o-rings to the plunger to stablize it.

I might try that but I didn't want to buy a pack of 20 o-rings just to use 1 of them.

I can buy single o-rings from my local hardware store, so I don't think you will need to buy a pack of 20. Besides, I found a box of 250 for around $4 so they aren't that expensive.

Alright I'm going to the store soon. I don't think I'll need to buy a second o-ring though because I did what Slug told me and it works fine now. I'm not sure exactly what the ranges are but flat its probably around 45 feet. I don't know what made this different but once I shot it with nothing in it it sounded a lot louder and more powerful. Thanks!

Oh yeah, I'm so happy though that I have a Menards, Home Depot, Lowes and Ace Hardware within like 10 minutes of my house! If one of those stores doesn't have what I'm looking for I have a lot of other stores to look at...
