Hello people
Just finished the modding phase of my nerf guns, but after some time looking at them I found that the color is a bit of an eyesore (blue yellow and orange isn't my thing), so I'm planing onto painting them, now as for the design and various other things I've got planned out already, but as for the paint it self I'm kinda curious on the type people use for the job.
Now I've always used spray paint for plastic models from Tamiya (AKA twin stars) for the body and Gundam markers and paints from bandai for the decial and details, as they tend to not rub off unlike some other paints I've tried.
I know that perm markers (i.e gold and silver), tend to rub off on your hands quite badly and is not recommended for use on anything that you may be handling.
Now on to the second part, I also plan on making the gun have some sort of metallic look (i.e scratches and wearing), but not very experianced in the field on how to apply them on.
In the past I've always just painted on the dried base layer with a fine brush (very fine), then with a much larger brush buffed the line to give it a hazer look (that or used cotten wool) for the scratches, then with some darker paint (same color as the body most the time but sometimes used brown/black) i used a piece of cotten wool to apply very small amounts of the paint on the entire body and a clean piece to take excess off the body and using the excess taken off to apply on varioous other areas.
As for the wearing of the gun I've always just used cotten wool to apply sliver paint on the areas i think would ave to most wear and then using a clean piece I smudge and rub in one direction only until i get a satisfied look and sometimes I use the sratch technique for the wear areas instead (thou this does take ALOT longer).
hope some people will find this information useful and post up some of their own tips and methods of repainting, as well as materials they use.

Paint your metallic layer on, then either streak on(brush), or scratch(Paint on, take off), a layer of your top color. (black usually)

tried this method in the past, didn't get the results that i wanted, but i have to say that this method is the best to use for long term guns as the wear and scratches come properly and gives it a much better look, thou for people who wants instant finishes this is not as good
