The other day, I got bored with my "real life" so I deciaded to return to the hobby where to quote baghead,

"I can think like an engineer, and act like an 8 year old."

I went and dug up my 3 remaining guns. (magstrike, custom At3k, and micro firing reactor)

The At3k was exactly what I was looking for. so I took it apart to find out what had gone wrong with it a while back when I had quit nerf.

Low and behold, the flange had broken off the front of the valve, leaving the barrel *floating*, and causing the 75-80 foot ranges that I had seen for so long out of it. (Keep in mind, it is singled.)

So, I took the thing that used to hold the BBB barrel and I chopped it down, and filled the end with fiberglass, except for a small amount of barrel so the dart doesn't get sucked back in.

Here's the end result. Ranges in the 100's on most shots. The barrel is angled down slightly to compensate for how the valve gets pulled up when you pull the trigger. Otherwise, it would angle the shots and make me miss or hit around the forehead. (kind of like the old civil war flintlock rifles)

Ok, ok. I'll shut up now.

Picturey goodness!

Closeup of the coupler mechanism, which consequently gets better range than a standard CPVC coupler setup.

Cool. Be careful with that trigger system, if you pull the firing pin on any of the airtech line at an angle for too long it will eventually start to leak. I had this happen when I used an at2k on top of my xbow.

Exactly why I bent the pin at the middle. This way, I won't have that problem.

That won't help. If anything, it'll make it worse.

haha I mean back behind the white piece of vynil or whatever that is, then I zip tied it and hot glued it at that angle. that way, the airtank pin is straight, the trigger pin is bent slightly. I have a few more AT3K valves, so I can afford to experiment.

Wait, you wasted a 3k???? Why? A singled 3k is like.... a Ice cream cone without ice cream. No peas in a pod. No peanuts in the peanut butter....

What did you do anyway? I don't get it.

Not all mods are done to perfect nerf guns.

Shit breaks, and so we do our best to improvise. Singling guns is one way of "fixing" a gun with a trashed rotation mechanism. Sometimes people strip the turret for other uses, too.

Thanks for explaining that to him, frost.

I took the BBB barrel off today and used a belt sander to take the flange off. now that I know it works, I got rid of the hotglue and replaced it with amazing goop. I sanded it down good with 40 grit before I glued it.

I think I'll replace the air line with something a bit longer, it's quite annoying because sometimes it will leak air because of how I had to splice it (pen ink tube and duct tape, haha.)

It isn't that bad looking considering it is made from a broken AT3K. A way that you could improve it is by putting some pvc around it to hide up the internals.

I'm working on it, but i'm trying to decide if i should use thinwall, since the point of the minimization was mostly to get rid of dead space and excess weight. I cut out the front of the gun, attached another tube and added a TTG cocking handle as the pump handle. I need to get a piece of SCH 40 PVC to steady the pump, but after I add a sight, this gun's done.

After fixing the barrel and plugging the pump, I'm getting in the 110-120 range consistently with no damage to the valve.

The pump plug is still holding up strong, I think I'll sand and paint the gun today.

I'm going to go with something bright and nerfy, I think... Lime green and yellow or light blue are seeming like good choices as of right now.

Then again, I might just repaint it with the black and forest green thing again.
