I've finally gotten around to doing p the batteries and.................. a battery tray locking mechanism.

First the batteries..


I decided to use 4 x 3.7V 2800Mah Lithium Ion Batts.
Had to stretch the springs a bit to fit in the cells.


What i did was to grind the internals of a AA to D cell convertor, leaving only the front nipple.

Next is the battery tray locking mechanism



This is a pretty simple mod. I just bought 2 metal buckles from a hardware store ($2 each).
Drilled a few pilot holes( 1 set of each side) and screwed in the pieces.
So now i don't have to go through the hassle of using a screwdriver to open the tray. I'm sure $4 is worth it.

The buckles for getting easier access to the battery tray is genius. Swapping out batteries is always a huge pain in the ass dealing with electric blasters. I'm not so sure about modifying the battery tray in a way that prevents using plain D cells. A fairly fat wooden dowel with a hole down the center to match the battery of choice could have a terminal down one end making them the same size as 3 D cells, ensuring you could still drop in normal batteries should you run out of other options. With stretched out contacts, you will have to re-compress and re-stretch them if you end up going back and forth between batteries, and that will eventually crack the contacts.

I need to get out and find some of that clamps. those are a great idea, and a side note that is a wicked paint job, i was going to paint mine until it broke, now im fixing it. But could you send me a link or PM of a full pic

What is the depth of the screws you used to screw the buckle into the body?

I believe it's 3-4mm deep.

Very nice. Just three questions. First one is how much did those batteries run you? What voltage are they putting out? And lastly is where in your hardware store did you find the latches?

The batteries are 3.7v 2800mah lithium ion rechargeable (18650 size) about 15SGD.. So it should be 11USD.
The combine voltage would be about 14-16v.
As for the latches... I found them at one of those industrial hardware stores.

So how long do these batteries last before you need to recharge?

I've been going with these batteries for the past few weeks and the voltage for them are still over 4v. So depending on how much u play.. On average it might last you a few months on a single charge. Very economical:)
