well, this is my first topic, and my first Snap that works. I've tried to make some before but they didn't work too well... but this one is awesome! well, at least to me it is..





yes, its cool... It runs on a few ace number 49-iike springs stacked on one another, has A carbon style plunger head, and Last but not least a cpvc turret! heres the turret:







I am VERY happy with the turret. it works flawlessly.

now, ranges. was flabbergasted. at FLAT angle it got 140 feet and 5 inches! I'm not joking! this is my primary and will be for a long time...

I do, seeing as I have one that will consistently hit 100-120+, even more if I'm firing a good stefan. 140 sounds like a stretch, but it is possible.

That sounds about right for a SNAPbow. Mine get about that with a PlusBow spring.

Homemade springers can hit higher the modded guns because they have bigger plunger tubes.

Don't talk out your arse. On topic: with dart skid, 140 is very believable, particularly with a good dart/barrel combo. 120-ish is about right for actual range, particularly for a SNAPbow using a cpvc plunger rod. I have yet to see just how much of a boost the Mk. 4s get from the PEX plunger rods.

I can shoot that far, but I don't either, just because I have this really weird craving for actually hitting people. Funny that. I kinda like hitting people with my darts.

Yeah, in all seriousness, maybe we should implement a "Maximum effective range" instead of just ranges. Im kinda tired of this "Well my gun can shoot such and such far" when people can't hit shit and end up shooting from like 30 feet anyway.

The problem with that is that being able to shoot obscene distances (I'm looking at you, BBBB purists!) starts looking fairly irrelevant, as practical range is pretty even across the spectrum of top-tier guns. I mean, I'm pretty sure that if we started going by actual skill level at actual wars, a good 3/4 of the members here would just stand around, kicking sheepishly at imaginary tufts of grass...

Thats why even with my SNAP, I will rush. Not like within 5 feet because thats mean, but I will fire from around 50 feet, taking cover and being tactically minded because I know my gun and what it can shoot. Alot of people don't know this, Venom, I am looking at you, and will just fire from the maximum distance then can, and end up missing... alot...

Shit, you caught me using my computer naked, again? Seriously, I may fire from far away, but that's because I often am using a 4B. You've got to admit I did pretty well at Minnesnowta in the CTF rounds. That's when I realized it's fun to shoot old men with my gun. When I was using my NF, I would fire from closer up, but that got me killed a few times, like when you rushed my with the Lightsaber. All I can say is that my nearly completed Doomsayer will give you a run for your money at MNSBW 3.

Yeah even though the gun can hit at those ranges, It just proves how high the muzzle velocity is. SO It's harder to dodge at closer ranges.

ie.

my magstrike hits 34ft, MSDFS dodged all ten shots at Massacre 2

my Pas was hiting 70ft, an dit helped to kick ass rushing

Good luck, you still can't hit shit. I need to rock the lightsaber again. You know that was beastly when you shot at me with your nitefinder and I blocked it back hand then ran in for the kill. I got two hits using a melee weapon, and Scott was even using a 3k. A 3K!!!!! HE SHOULDA BEEN ABLE TO HIT ME NO PROBLEM!!

Anyway, what is the turret made out of? I was designing a new SNAP in school today with a removable turret or any other barrel I use. Im just curious is all.

To avoid range discrepancies with dark skip and the like, do your range tests on grass. On concrete, more than 20' of dart skip is common with primaries. Grass will eliminate that.

Damned straight. If the dart is at the end of its arc it's going to be a lot slower than its muzzle velocity and therefore easier to dodge. I mean really, unless you're proficient you're not hitting anything at 150' with anything less than singled titan, and even then you have more than ample time to get away. Also, that's going in my sig.

If you don't have some screws in there, that thing will snap off like a cheap popsicle. Heaven forbid it gets cold. I tend to use hot glue only for: tacking stuff together prior to screwing it down, holding triggers (low stress joint, plus it bonds well to the wood), and reinforcing the wiggle room around the grip. Everything else needs a better joining medium.
