First time poster, Long time reader.
So I finally found something to modify that wasn't me just copying someone else. Perhaps someone has done this mod, if so, sorry to waste your time.
So to the point. (And sorry for the large pictures. Feel free to flame if it annoys you and I will scale them down)

Tech Target

Great gun, so lets open it up



As you can see, really simple make.



So I pulled out the plunger and spring. The front part is where the air restrictor is.



Nothing here is fused together in anyway, so you can just pull it apart.



Just throw away that little piece, its only there to annoy you at this point.



As for the post, I just cut it out and cleared out the center of the post's base to allow more air flow.



On the loading chamber there is this little hole, so I filled it.



Now for the plunger mechanism.



Just unscrew the end of it to get access to the springs.



I took the spring from a sharpshooter II and just put it over the current spring and left it in there.
So the problem now is that the new spring compresses and the catch mechanism won't catch. That's right, it just was too much metal for one gun.



So this bit was marked for shaving down.



See how well that went?



So now I just had to add a more powerful spring to the catch mechanism so that it would work. I just took one from one of the many pens I have stolen from work.



So there you go. All together and happy. Fires like a dream. I don't have a way to precisely measure the ranges, but I did it by paces then measured my paces.
1 pace = 4'
13 paces (Two) -> 52'
14 paces (Two) -> 56'
14.5 paces -> 58'

By no means does that mean it can get that EXACT range, but definitely somewhere in the range.

Nice mod! The basics

With the sharpshooter spring, I'm surprised you don't get more range... You should do a barrel replacement.

Its simple and I think anyone can do it.

A few suggestions:

Adding a barrel will increase range and accuracy.
Using Stefans will increase range and accuracy.
Doubling up on the O-ring will increase plunger seal which will increase range a bit.

Tech targets are one of my favorite pistols, I use them all the time. They have such a good seal out of the box that I don't even bother adding an o-ring. Normally I just rebarrel them and add a couple rubber bands, and you're correct, they are very simple. Good work!

This is quite a different approach to a spring replacement! Most people would just trim a few coils off their largest spring so that it'll have a smaller compressed length. I've never seen this method before--great thinking.

I definitely agree, a barrel replacement would get you great ranges. Try finding 1/2" CPVC or 9/16" Brass or 17/32" Brass locally. If not, you might want to order some PETG from One Man Clan to really get those darts moving.

before i read this, i was convinced that the Tech Target was crap, but now i might have to get one.

O-ring Lubricant, It is safe on rubber. It comes in little blue containers found in the plumbing section of the Hardware store. Usually found in a small zip lock baggy with other small plumbing parts also in baggies.

Another popular lubricant is Silicone spray (which might be easier to find, depending on what kind of stores you have available to you). I found my silicone spray in the automotive section, but it is used for a variety of different things so it might be in a different section for you.

Do not use WD-40. It is a common mistake. Don't use any other lubricants that aren't rubber or plastic friendly.

If you dremel down the barrel enough, you can make a coupler of sorts.

Also, if the glue winds up inside the barrel, dremmel the barrel.

Hey FA, have you ever modded a ttg? Just curious, not trying to be mean or anything, but all of the mega-style ones that I have modded recently (about 4 or 5) have had a near perfect seal right out of the box, and when I put my finger over the barrel it was VERY hard to pull the plunger back. Hell, I can vacuum load my stefans in 17/32" brass in one of them perfectly, and it's a tight fit.

These guns really do have a great seal out of the box, and I think adding an o-ring will only give you more friction. Of course it's always up to the person who mods the gun, but that's my personal experience and that's what I think of them.

Galorn, can you keep this thread about the mod not your sales. On topic-just like everyone else who posted that this mod is very easy to read...well, its very easy to read and a mod on you first post at the Haven is pretty cool.

Just because something has a good seal out of the box, doesn't mean it can't be improved upon. Also if you replace the spring, or add bungees the seal usually needs improving.

Necro much? But hey, it happens. Just try to avoid doing it again. For questions regarding a really old mod, I'd suggest PMing the original poster.

As far as I'm aware, the NF and TTG target (from my memory) are somewhat similar in diameter, so you might have trouble putting the two together without having issues with the catch.
