Mid last year I developed a passion for vintage blasters, seeing as my local area needed something other than clip fed RPs.

So, I still extensively use my Lock'n'Load as a dedicated backup, and my Crossbow is probably my most used primary. I have been moving to homemades recently, but more as a building project, rather than for actual primary use, seeing as people still see 60ft as "good enough" for wars.

Started actively warring in NIC wars since late 2010, then my participation and organisation boomed as I decided to fill the rather large hole of lacklustre blaster performance and infrequent wars.

I have just finished up a 3K, which I intend to use as a primary. Prior to that I used a pulse strike and/or JSPB.

I use a rscb BnA for pretty much the an entire war, I normally only switch it out when someone lets me use a cool looking project that they have worked on.

I dont care about what gun you used, thats not the point. Also people are blatantly lying about when they started going to organized wars so they look cool.

And why should you care? If you don't have any trust that this community is truthful, why start a poll?

I used Longshots for the first half of 2011 when i started nerfing. Then APOC rolled around and the LS just weren't cutting it. After that I switched pretty much to homemades. I still keep a big blast and 3k as back up though.

Well my primaries consist of my BBB, my 3K, and my AT. I haven't ventured into homemades just yet, but the blaster I got are pretty decent for what they are... I just got to get better ammo. ^_^

Griever 2112 still plays with his alpha trooper quite often despite owning one of the scariest +bows.

I am not sure if I am allowed to ask a question like this here, but I am honestly tired of tip toeing around for fear of ban hammer or something on my first post...

Is Nerf really so outdone by the competitors now?

I am just jumping back on the dart gun hobby and I just assumed Nerf was always the best. I never even bothered looking at the cheaper brands like buzz bee, always assumed they were crap after owning two that were just a joke long ago. Is it just a waste of time for me to modify nerf brand guns? I purchased a few here recently including the pyragon disc gun and the stampede. I quite like this vortex thing but is it really considered so sub par? I planned on modifying this and my rayven within the month. Even had a plan for reproducing my own vortex discs.

Is it all about homemade and pump tanks now or something? Am I just wasting my time (and money)?

This is a borderline thread necro, since the last post before yours was months ago, but I'll let it slide. At most of the wars organized on this site, homemade nerf blasters are at least present on the field. If even a few people are using them, then you have people shooting 100+ feet out of hoppers which means that almost no nerf brand blasters will be able to complete range wise, no matter how well they are modded. This escalation depends largely on what ammo is allowed in a given area, and there are some areas where people are content to use a nitefinder or an alpha trooper when there are hoppered pumpbows on the field, but in my area this is generally not the case.

Edit: only 43.62% of the people who answered the poll selected an option that implied that they do not currently use a nerf brand blaster for their primary. In other words there are only about 6 more people using off brand blasters or homemades than not. I think the "Still using one" option is somewhat inflated because there are some people who gave that answer who I know for a fact use off-brand or homemade blasters at least half the time, and there are others who should have picked the last option "I don't go to outdoor wars organized on NH" but didn't.

I suppose I will proceed as planned then.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid if I started a new thread it would qualify as "which gun is better" so I thought it might be better to sort of necro a thread where the subject remained within context that at least was from within the past 6 months.

Yeah, 'which gun is better' is still totally subjective. If you live in Philly and want to come to a philly area war hosted on NH, it would probably be a good idea to have something you can put a hopper on. If you're doing HvZ or playing with your friends or whatever, you have different needs.

OK. So modifying a stampede or longshot or volting up a flywheel like a rayven/nitron is not going to be cutting it in Philly?

An brass breeched longshot would be quite effective in a NIC war, however I don't think a stampede, or a flywheel gun would cut it

I've seen an overvolted Rayven knock out half a team in Philly, but those were unusual circumstances. And by 'unusual' I mean Muttonchops was hump-shotting streamlines at my team when he was the VIP (hump-shotting is like like punch-shotting but with dicks). You can try it, (using a Rayven, not dry humping a nerf gun for added range) and there will certainly be other people around who are in the same boat, but I would recommend at least putting together a snap and giving yourself that option.

To further what Langley has said, homemades will be present and will have better range and accuracy than the typical modded Nerf-brand gun. However, I've yet to see a homemade that can match a Nerf gun for capacity or rate-of-fire, so there are at least some areas in which you can compete.

In my admittedly small local wars, one individual is to be feared with his volt-modded Barricades. Of course, he is also in much better shape than a lot of us, which helps. Another guy had quite a bit of success rushing with dual Magstrikes. And, of course, things like AT3Ks can readily compete. But most of the newer guns will be at a significant disadvantage if for no other reason than streamlines and elites fishtail.

Snaps are ridiculously easy to make, but require orders from both McMaster and Flexpvc to get the correct parts. If you don't want to wait around or order online, you can always make an RSCB'd crossbow (or heck, an Aabow) of whatever sort using material you can find at Home Depot/Lowes. This also has the advantage of having a scalable resistance.

My HyperMaxx has been and continues to be my most reliable primary. Granted, there haven't been too many home mades up here in Canada to compete against.
