Up until now I have only been doing performance based mods, but I want to start doing some integrations. I have heard of using things like hot glue, epoxy, and smoothcast 65d, but what is the strongest and cleanest looking material to work with?

I'm a big fan of epoxy putty. But I warn you, sand, sand, sand, sand, get a lighter grit and sand again. Great stuff and rock solid. Easily paintable as well. Can add a lot of weight though, use as little as you can to get the job done.

Epoxy putty on the outside, Methacrylate on the inside.

Where can you get the Methacrylate?

Any hardware store, Wal-Mart, most retail locations.

Anything made by Devcon is most likely methacrylate; Loctite makes some as well, look for the term 'Plastic Bonder' on the package.

Before you buy any product take a look at the back of the packaging, if it doesn't list Methacrylate under active ingredients don't buy it.

Ok sounds good. What is the general opinion on smoothcast 65d?

I'm not sure why you'd want to use casting resin.

Methacrylate is much cheaper, and is stronger than the ABS plastic Nerf blasters are made of.

Some people use it, and say you can make really strong bonds. But I have looked into it and seen that it is expensive. I don't think that my integration will be under much stress so your combination will probably work perfectly.
Thanks.

You say that now but you'll be pretty sad when your integration cracks and you have to try to go back and fix it.

So what do you recommend then Zombona?

Zip ties. They don't look very clean but you can cover it up with e putty.

That is a very interesting idea, I would have never thought of it.

It's a pretty ghetto solution, but it adds a mechanical connection between the two shells that could be used where it is difficult to place screws, etc. I have used even dollar store zip ties to great effect when i integrated some stuff onto a longshot a long time ago. However, I was lazy and didn't have any resin or e-putty on hand at the time, which caused it to turn out looking like crap. But the connections were strong. I used some hot glue for placement and a little bit of structural integrity, and then added the zip ties by drilling some holes into the shells. It has worked well so far, but screws are a better option.

I usually use hot glue to get the shells to stay where I want them, and then use a nice layer of epoxy putty to add strength to the connection. Using a mechanical connection would probably be the best way to make sure that your blasters don't end up coming apart though, for there really isn't any adhesive that's going to be as strong as screws.

Once you place the shells together, using an ABS solvent weld will give you a strong connection comparable or better than screws, since you are basically melting the shells together.

I just did my integration today. It went pretty well. I ended up going with epoxy putty on the outside and plastic epoxy (methacrylate). Write up coming in the following weeks since the electronics take a while when done between homework.

About the zip tie thing, I have used zip ties in a recon barrel and strongarm integration,(Will post pictures if need be)I can say it works surprisingly well and takes no effort at all. A down side is that it doesn't look the cleanest obviously, but you say you do performance modifications so maybe it won't be a big deal.

I'll be looking for it in the Modification and Pantjob thread.
