Now I'm pretty sure no one has posted a writeup on this thing here yet.

Posted Image
This thing here. The unorignal named Foam Dart gun.

Posted Image
Out of the packet now and it looks nice, but way to realistic for my liking. Its fairly small and light, but i find my finger only just fits in the trigger guard. Its primed by pulling back the slide.

Posted Image
It comes with 6 decent red suction cup darts. as you can see there, the little piece inside the handle can hold 2 darts.

Stock, this thing can fire about 16 feet. I'd better fix that.

Posted Image

Start by removing the screws, and don't forget this one hidden under the slide.

Posted Image
And we're in. As you can see, it has an inverted plunger simmilar to a maverick.

Posted Image
If i put the two together, you can see that they are the same length, but the maverick one is wider. This photo was taken after the mod, so thats why the plunger suddenly changed.

Posted Image
Now I could have just drilled out the peg inside the stock barrel, but if I had the dart fit would have been very loose, becasue the stock barrel grips the dart on the inside. Also thats where the air is delivered. But I chose to rebarrel it. For the new barrel I'm using 8cm (thats about 3 inches) of Hep20. It was just an off cut i had lying around, which still had the sticker on it.

Now I'd better take a moment to explain what Hep20 is, because i'm sure almost none of you on here have never heard of it. Basicly its a flexable Polybutylene tubing with an outer diamater of 16mm and an internal diamater much like 17/32 brass. Though its flexable you don't have to worry about it bending at this length. For this mod, its external diameter is pretty much the same as the stock barrel.

Posted Image
Moving on now. You will need the rubber washer piece off the back of the stock barrel

Posted Image
Then glue it to the back of your new barrel. I used 2 part Epoxy glue here.

Posted Image
when its all dried you need to put the plunger back and then work out where the new barrel sits. Glue the barrel onto the shell of the gun to stop it flying out when its fired. The stock barrel had a ridge that held it in place at the front .

Posted Image
Now here's the most important step. before you put it back together, give it an eye raping paintjob.

With a new barrel it hits about 30-35 feet using tagger darts.

Wow, great job. Love the paintjob.

However, jerm did this on his blog about a month ago.

One problem I've experinced with flexable tubing (I.e. Pex pvc) is that it will start to deform after one or two bends. Does this happen to hep20?

you said it got another 15' added to range just with a barrel mod? hell reinforce the back and sides a bit and put in a better spring you could hit 50' with taggers and 50'-60' with stefans, that'd be nice at a war.

Realisticly, more like something in the range of 45 feet. But I'll see what else I can get out of it.

Just a few things to conisder if i do beef up the spring.

Posted Image
The plunger compresses the spring in quite far. It compresses down to 2cm.

Posted Image

Posted Image
The little nub on the plunger connects to the nub on the inside of the slide which is what draws the plunger back. I wonder if it has enough to hold onto if there was a better spring inside.

I saw this somewhere online, If I could only remember...I love the PJ, bright colors are my thing.
The gun actually looks like a m1911, if you are in to realism.
Nice mod! I hope to see if you can get any more range out of it.

You could probably just make a new spring rest and place it a bit farther back, right in front of that screw. This would allow you to replace the stock spring with a stronger spring that may be longer and have thicker coils.

Also, great writeup.

Self Preservation? Cops have showed up at many wars and a realistic dark looking gun will just make the more edgy. Nice gun though, is the quality of plastic ok.

I haven't had any problems with deformation wilt Hep2o. at the size used there it dosen't even bend.

I got mine from here.

The're awesome! Thats why.

EDIT: I managed to find an industrial spring which fit in well, and was more powerfull. But now its firing very inconsistantly, and getting worse ranges.

It's not nerf if the blasters aren't ridiculously colored or turned into alligators ;).

I'd personally keep one w/o the bright painting, but with a tan or brown on the handle. (though obviously that would be a bad idea for outdoor wars) Perhaps a gold paintjob (whilst painting the trigger and muzzle blaze orange) would keep it looking decent but not as alarming.

The spring catch looks somewhat weak, though may not be nearly as bad as the RFR's. It's still a consideration though and even with the stock spring it may be likely to wear out.

Does the "bottom" end of the barrel go all the way into the end of the plunger? If so, the inverted plunger may not be such a bad thing since there is no dead space. (sorry if that was obvious, but I haven't seen any inverted plungers without dead space yet)

My eyes feel as if they have just been diddled.

And that is how gun paintjobs are supposed to be done. Bonus points for Technicolor animals. The exact opposite of so many flat-black PJs, and so much better for it. This is, even ignoring paintjob, a great mod. Almost 3 times the range, and it doesn't even have a barrel beyond what initially holds the dart. Congratulations, Roger Explosion. That is how first few posts should be.

Nice write up, I love the paintjob even if it does diddle the eyes.

I'm pretty sure I saw some of these at a local toy store, but I passed them over because they looked like junk. I'd be willing to go back now and look if anyone wants one, I'm unsure of the price, though.

That 6in tall x 8 in long seems clost to or just a little smaller then a full sized 1911.

Could you use CPVC instead of the hep20? Or would it be too tight?

Thanks-
