I bought a Rayven and have so far done the lock removals (electronic & physical). I'm planing on uping the voltage to 18 volts(2x9volt) but while I'm sure the gun roaring like a beast every time the motors rev up may intimidate the hell out of you opponent I'd like to come up with a way to maybe not get rid of the roaring motor sound all together (thinking that would be impossible) but at least drop it down closer to stock noise level. Along these lines I'm thinking my best and probly ceepest bet would be puting foam rubber space fillers in all the dead spaces inside the gun. This way I'm thinking the inside of any nerf gun is basicly one big echo chamber and the foam rubber would absorb at least some of the sound & vibration. That's my guess at a solution if anyone else has a beter/cooler idea I'd like to hear it and may even try it out. Thanks in advance for any help offered, Nomad.

Rubber foam? Never heard of it. You could just use a lot of Fbr ! The foam will also absorb some of the sound, as well as keep it inside the blaster.

I haven't held a Rayven yet, so I am going to have to ask:

Does the sound from the voltage amp come primarily from the vibrations in the plastic shell? If it does, putting some kind of force to limit the vibrations would help your sound problem. FBR helps dampen sound, but if you can get to the source, you are golden.

If you do go for FBR, maybe just wrapping the bodies of the motors would avoid your internals looking like someone spat up plastic and hotglue everywhere.

I ran into this problem a while ago, while dealing with URB's. Use Dynamat, the stuff they use in cars to reduce shaking and vibrations. Attach it to where the motors are contacting the body of the blaster, then fill the rest of the empty space with cheap foam. Any type will do, but insulating foam [grey] is cheapest and most effective.

Eliminating sources of vibration would be your first task - building rubberized mounts into the shell could help. But even then, you would have to deal with the noise of the motor brushes, which cannot be easily silenced without spending money on a nice AC motor.

On the cheap, I suggest self stick linoleum floor tiles (cracked ones are often free if you ask!) and neoprene (old mouse pads) as materials for damping. I don't have a Raven but a adding some material to the outside of the shell will probably help.

This is an idea thread. Read the New Members Guide before you post again please.

Also, why do you want to make a flywheel gun quiet? It might be something you could possibly do if you were ready to completely rebuild the blaster, but it's not going to happen from just sticking some foam in the blaster.
